CPAP Muffler dB and Air Flow Test - Mammoth-3D: Comprehensive Analysis
Mammoth-3D CPAP Muffler: Reducing Noise by 13 dB with 100% Airflow for 3D Printing Part Cooling
The Mammoth-3D CPAP Muffler is specifically designed to reduce the noise generated by the cooling fan (24V Brushless Centrifugal Air Blower DC WS7040) in 3D printers, while ensuring that the airflow required for effective part cooling is not compromised. Here’s how the muffler achieves a noise reduction of 13 dB and maintains 100% airflow:
Noise Reduction Mechanism
1. Sound Absorption Materials:
The muffler incorporates advanced sound-absorbing materials that dampen the noise produced by the part cooling fan (Air Blower). These materials absorb sound waves rather than reflecting them, significantly reducing the overall noise level.
2. Acoustic Design:
The design of the muffler includes internal baffles or chambers specifically configured to disrupt and attenuate sound waves. This sophisticated acoustic design helps in reducing noise without impeding the airflow needed for cooling.
3. Precision Engineering:
The precision afforded by 3D printing technology allows for the creation of intricate internal structures within the muffler. These complex geometries optimize noise reduction by creating pathways that minimize sound transmission, effectively lowering the noise by 13 dB.
Maintaining 100% Airflow
1. Aerodynamic Pathways:
The muffler is designed with aerodynamic principles to ensure that air passes through it smoothly and with minimal resistance. This careful design minimizes turbulence and ensures that the cooling fans can operate efficiently.
2. Large Cross-sectional Area:
By providing a sufficiently large cross-sectional area for air to pass through, the muffler ensures that there is no obstruction to the airflow. This allows the cooling fans to deliver the required airflow for effective part cooling in the 3D printing process.
3. Minimized Back Pressure:
The internal design of the muffler is optimized to minimize back pressure, which is the resistance against the air being pushed through the system. By reducing back pressure, the muffler ensures that the airflow remains consistent and effective, providing the necessary cooling for the 3D-printed parts.
Summary
The Mammoth-3D CPAP Muffler leverages advanced materials and precise engineering to achieve a balance between noise reduction and airflow maintenance for 3D printing part cooling. By employing sound-absorbing materials, optimizing acoustic design, and utilizing the precision of 3D printing, it effectively reduces noise by 13 dB. At the same time, its aerodynamic pathways, adequate cross-sectional area, and minimized back pressure ensure that it maintains 100% airflow, ensuring efficient cooling of the printed parts without additional noise disturbance.

Get a good PEI sheet and stick with on brand, so you know what it can do and what not. The right tool for the job. Looks like either the heater or the PID loop failed to keep up with the sudden heat loss. If it's the latter, MPC now in DangerKlipper bleeding edge v2 (or its own feature branch) might be able to avoid that. Back when I used PID I had CPAP ramp up slowly over several layers to give the PID controller time to see the heat loss and respond.

@mammoth-3D I wanted to do that gantry set up but decided to go with a vz extruder and lsd on an archetype toolhead with 9mm belts and awd. Your set up is super clean.

    • @mammoth-3D
      @mammoth-3D 3 місяці тому

@@TheMostH8D that setup will work good as well. Just check that your gantry doesn't get super heavy with all the bearings for 9mm. I don't think we need 9mm belts. I tested this printer at 1000mm/s 50k acc no problem.

I just got my foam in the mail today and I gotta say, you really nailed it man. It was insane how much noise was reduced. It's not dead silent by any means, but it is definitely "home office friendly". I think I'm going to modify it slightly to add a shroud over the blower itself and stuff it with foam; I've seen other cpap mounts do this and I wonder what kind of improvements it could make. I also want to print some mounts in flex material to decouple the housing from the frame of the printer so I can possibly further reduce noise. Very well done, excellent model.

10 out of 10 for design. disqualification for weight. Get rid of canbus and tap, whats left will be vz bot

I don’t use Can Bus or TAP, but that is what users are looking for. And yes it’s based off the VzBot. But to fit a Voron, as the VzBot Toolhead doesn’t really fit on the Vorons. If you are looking for a Voron Toolhead you can find it on my GitHub github.com/Mammoth-3D/Mammoth-FDM-MODs
