At Carmarthen Video we love Heritage Steam, and Narrow Gauge Railways. Each year we travel to the most scenic and most interesting lines, primarily in the UK. We also occasionally cover historic sites, and beautiful countryside. But most of all, we love Wales.

Talyllyn Railway and Tywyn Narrowgauge Museum

Abergynolwyn, Tywyn Harbour Station and Dolgoch Falls are all visited in this short video. It was shot just prior to Lockdown 1, in sunny but windy conditions (when is it not windy in Wales) over 2 days. Edward Thomas and Tom Rolt were in traffic, as the last services were taking the dwindling of visitors to the line.
Ffestiniog Railway - Tan y Bwlch to Blaenau Ffestiniog

Filmed late 2019, prior to closure, come on board and track side, from Tan y Bwlch to Blaenau Ffestionog. We pass through Campbells Platform, Dduallt and the Llyn Ystradau deviation, New Moelwyn and Garnedd Tunnels Tanygrisiau and Coed-y-Bleddiau B & B.

Filmed in November 2019, we are on board and trackside on the Ffestiniog narrow gauge railway from Porthmadog to Tan Y Bwlch, on the Orange Timetable, passing through Boston Lodge , Penrhyn , Plas Halt , Coed Hafod Y Lyn to Tan Y Bwlch. Carmar's cameras visit the Welsh Highland Railway, covering the line from Porthmadog to Dynas. Come and see the beautiful North Wales landscape, and the classic narrow gauge Garrett Locomotives 138 and 143. We cover the southern most section of the line, including The Aberglaslyn Pass, Beddgelert Forest, Nantmor and on to Snowdon Ranger.

The maintenance yard looks like a buisy site. Good to see engines oily and sooty, a sign they are being worked and maintained. Not static showpieces.
Would love to come and visit from the states and set on one of those benches watching trains all day.

Engines running backwards always smacks of amateurism to me, in the day we rarely saw that, the railway here should make a turning loop or turntable a priority I reckon.
they do have a turntable on site but its only at one end I believe (the Kidderminster terminus) there isn't much room for expansion at the bridgenorth end so I doubt they can. Its been open since 1970 now and was an active railway since the mid 1800s so I'm sure they would have put one in if there was room or funding
why do they have to have a mainline crew and a heritage crew?
Luke, I'm not sure, Perhaps the crews for NYMR, being volunteers, do not have the required certification for mainline running. If you can find out,let me know, Terry

Covering the Welsh Highland Railway is very time consuming, but well worth the effort
@@terryhalliwell9241 It's best when they have one of their 'Super Power' or other gala weekends when there are a lot more trains running. I've done it with a still camera, but not with one that takes video.

No, unfortunately. We did show some footage from on board, looking down the valley, in a previous video 'A day on the Severn Valley Railway'. Not to proud of the quality of that video.
I miss riding on the train to Pickering from Grosmont.I haven't been on a train since September 2019 and that was the last day of the gala, and the last steam locomotive I was on was the Union of South Africa

I like how edward thomas is painted just like peter sam from thomas and friends
If I remember correctly, Talyllyn and Dolgoch are red, Sir Hayden and Edward Thomas are green, and Douglas is blue.
Unfortunately, while Peter Sam kept his Giesl Ejector funnel since the day he got it, Edward Thomas only a similar funnel for a brief period before it got its old one back.
