You guys use Bilstein B8 shocks? Are they rebuildable or is it easier to just swap a new Bilstein in?
I love these breakdowns thanks for going through your products!
I bought 2. One for the miata and one for the protege5
Ayyyeee I’ve got a Miata and a protege5 as well, that’s dope
As a long time fabricator I am very pleased with your pan kit and these videos. Avery well thought out kit and easy installation as long as people realize that this is a messy process and does take some time to be done correctly they should be very pleased with the end results!
hey john thanks for the support! I think I see a set in my future
Frick yea dude 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Isn't that just a mountain bike grip???
😁 þrðmð§m
What wheel is that? 5zigen?
is there no locking collar on the threaded portion? what stops the collar from moving while driving?
Can the ride height be adjusted with these on the car?
Lemme get that install video
The coilover sleeve seems to be hitting on the Cert clip instead of going over it, Any advice on getting the coilover sleeve to slid over the cert clip without damaging it?
Mixing NA (the dampers) with NB (the top mounts) suspension components sounds odd. As you said in your video, there is a difference between an NA damper and an NB damper and surely this is due to the different top mounts. I thought the improved rear suspension travel on NBs was enabled by longer dampers and strings, and the top mounts effectively raise the top of the suspension turret providing the longer dmpers/ springs with more room (all with without jacking up the rear ride height)? With the top mounts changed to NB, an NB damper will fit an NA so it seems strange not to just sell the complete NB component set. What am I missing in my logic?
You've probably already decided on your coilovers by now, but as you say NB top hats raise the spring perch upwards. Total travel is determined by the shaft stroke and is unaffected by moving the spring mounting location. It's often purported in the Miata world that the NB suspension has more travel, but Keith (of FlyinMiata) has mentioned in a forum post that once they measured and compared NA to NB setups there wasn't an actual advantage. The principle benefit of the NB top hat design is the integration of rubber bushes at the shaft mounting point which reduce NVH. While suspension travel remains a fixed constant based off of the shaft length, moving the spring mounting locations or changing shock body length will affect the proportion of bump and droop travel. Moving the top perch upwards increases bump travel, but reduces droop travel while also lowering ride height. In order to compensate, NB Bilsteins are about 20-30mm longer than the NA ones which has the effect of reducing bump travel, increasing droop travel, and increasing ride height. In a matched system (NB shocks + NB hats) this balances out to give you the same travel and ride height as an NA setup, but putting a NB top hat on a NA shock/spring assembly has the side effect of lowering the car about half an inch without sacrificing bump travel. The Miata Bilstein suspensions were ultimately designed to be run at factory ride height, by converting them to sleeved coilovers with an adjustable perch you are able to run the shocks lower than intended. But, lowering the car by moving the bottom perch down comes at the direct expense of bump travel which the Miata is already limited on especially in the rear. As a result, the general formula for DIY Bilstein coilovers has been using NB shocks with extended top hats (Maruha, ISC, etc) to regain some of the bump travel lost when lowering the vehicle. Extended top hats have a raised center portion that allows the shock to travel deeper into the hat before the bump stop contacts the mount. Alternatively, running the shorter NA body shocks with a NB top hat gives a similar bump travel at a given ride height as using a NB Bilstein with a 20mm extended top hat. However, the NA shaft is a different design and will not have good thread engagement when used with the NB bushings. So, when Spec Miata initially decided that their suspension would use NA shocks and NB top hats, Shaikh of Fat Cat Motorsports designed a mounting solution to marry the two components together. 5X Racing is now the authorized manufacturer of that kit so in short, they already have the supply chain to make packages with NA shocks and NB top hats.
Very simple, straight forward and helpful! Thank you!!
Love these, had the mini rogue in my 97 for about 3 years now and really love it, just difficult to find a new mini rogue core.
Will this work as casual shiftknob?
decided to start this project today , here we go. with you as my guide i’ll be fine im sure
....soooooo how'd it go
With this done to a car, would it be difficult to put frame rail braces and and butterfly kit on?
Very cool , what model number is that Bilstein shock ?
Thanks man it's a sold shifter for sure 💯 mannnwolfff
What are you putting on the top hat and spring isolator? Glue?
M♿️re curves↩️ less huge embankments more curves↩️ less open NASCAR💤 drafts more curves↩️ 😎✨Happier✨ 👐Me 🏁Zoom🏎zoom💨
Ahh... That cage limits access so much. Here i used to complain with a single diagonal roll bar 😂
Really helpful videos for this overall but it would be nice to see the floor completed welded in.
the world class project . thank you so much and waiting for more videos on diy coilover mate . a great thanks sir . great jobs
hi, i already have my own shocks that i want to convert. what are the eibach serial numbers for the springs?
Awesome! Absolutely love the shift knob btw. Best one I've had in any car I've ever owned or driven.
Great explanation!! Would love to hear what you have to say about the mount kits you offer, there is not a ton of detailed info out there on the subject! Also if you have any insights about how different bump stop combinations affect handling and ride
Nice
Dude i need to get mine that is sickkkkk
Got it yesterday along with cool shirt!! And thank you for the stickers and 📌 and 🍬
Great racing with you last weekend
Thanks! Nice work on that Sunday sprint!
More radio blank off plates please! For na!
This was great and I am definitely interested. Questions: does this reduce ground clearance at all? And would this interfere with installing a flat floor? Lastly, the double wall of the subframe is obviously going to be more ridged, Should there be additional bracing added? Is the roll cage adding enough stiffness this doesn't matter? I'd like to keep the car as stiff as possible. Thanks and again great explainer on your product (which looks great) and install.
The frame rails are still lower than the drop floor so you aren’t losing ground clearance. I guess you lose a millimeter or two because the frame rail piece that comes with the kit welds to the bottom of the car’s frame rail.
Nice
this is awesome. need to sell this for the corolla ae86 too!
Can some one tell me where to buy it
Looking like they aren’t answering questions .
very good presentation
I've wanted one for a while now, but unfortunately you don't ship overseas :(
This was really cool.
Does it give me an advantage? I drive an 276hp 1.8vvt turbo. Money is no issue. I just want it to be as happy as i am.
Installing an adjustable FPR with a gauge can help with troubleshooting (typically a non-issue), but primarily it's for raising fuel pressure to increase fuel flow. Injectors that hit max duty can still flow more fuel if the fuel pressure is raised. It's especially helpful with E85 due to higher flow requirements but for miatas under 300hp, it's unnecessary
@@loganalbritton1441 thx. It's 276whp so i guess i go shopping for one. Thx again.
@@TheAdatto honestly 300 was a conservative number. Unless you have a built motor and are shooting for 400 or already are maxing your injectors, there's no need to switch to an AFPR. The money would be a lot better invested in ID1000 injectors
@@loganalbritton1441 It will be the next step. I have a spare vvt engine that will be fully forged.
awesome
23.4% of the time Miata drivers are napping at Daytona.
Can these be used on koni sport shocks as well?
I just installed this in my nb miata and for some reason 3rd and 5th gear either pop out or won’t go in. Any ideas as to why?
Hi John..Looking through some spec miata cage videos. It looks like your door bars have "S" bends in them. Is there a reason why you went with this? I hear concerns of safety with these.
So glad I got these. Could tell immediately how solid closing the door sounded after putting these on. Less rattle on little bumps in the road and overall just a tighter feeling in the vertical door connection. And they're Green!
Has any one ever tried this shifter on a 350z and yes I do know it's made for a Miata but I've had good luck with other shifters?
I love that tow hook design
