ATN Thor 4 comparison 640 vs 384 and different color modes
Thanks for posting... I got exactly the info I needed... 👍
Just got a 640 (3-9) taking it to zero, tomorrow. Thanks for posting.
Hey man mine looks like the before ones what did you do to correct it?
Excellent demo on the variations of density with fog using a thermal optic. To me, a good thermal is a game changer. The only drawback to thermal optics (imo) is the inability to see thru glass, where N.V. gives you that ability. And that's why you have BOTH!
I always enjoy a comparison that is not full of sponsored BS.
As i type this i just dropped my thor 4 384 1.25-5x in the fed ex drop box for the second time. But in your honest opinion would you buy the 640 over the 384 knowing what you know now?
Just found your review...nicely done. Have you purchased any newer models since this review ? If so, what is your opion of the device. What would you say would be a perfect magnification range.
A bit late here (obviously), but both those TIs kinda look like they suck big time. I guess one does have to spend thousands to get anything halfway decent.
Were these before and after an update? because the one I have looks just like the before, so maybe I need to do an update?
For the money, I was shocked to learn you had many problems. Especially after sending the scope back 3times. Wow.
How do you do the pixel correcting
Thank you! Im writing a book and this is helped me with a scene <3
4.5 power 384 will have about the same resolution as a 2x 640 when zoomed in 2x. 4.5 is not good for shooting close because of narrow field of view. If you're hunting yotes go higher mag, pigs lower mag.
There's a reason why nobody buys atn anymore...
?

Thanks for making that video

This helped me a lot, thanks!
such an awesome comparison
Thank you for the comparison. It's nice to see a side by side comparison.
Both look like garbage compared to other options out there. A ton of great scopes for under $4500 today.
Like?

The questions I have been asking over a year....you answered it all. Thanks Man, appreciated.
Squatch huntin and cloaked ufo huntin....cant decide on this or the pulsar xm38
i bought a 640 2.5x25, its been repaired or replaced 7 times. you get what you pay for, if you buy these things your gonna get burned
Wow
@@wanderingronin305 don’t buy ATN garbage
have 3, no problems.. most are ok some arn't but it's usually user error though..
I just got a thor 4 640 1-10. I cant see anything out of it. Its pretty terrible at times. The only thing that even slightly gives visibility is the rainbow setting. It has huge permanent dead pixels, at least 50 percent of it is dead pixels. Its god awful, i dont think it could make out a rabbit at 7 yards
@EuropaTheLastBattle.net__ i have. Maybe it's certain temperatures? I know it's quality sometimes is amazing and other times its hard to make anything out. During cold winter with high winds it can be really hard to make anything out. But on warmer nights it can seem pretty clear. I bought a odin lt 640 and it is waay more clear than my thor 4. I think my thor not only has some blemishes but for some reason also lacks the clarity my odin has, or is effected by inclimate weather harsher. Like, can't detect a heat signature at 50 yards bad. But on other nights can see easily out to 500 yards or more. So idk
ATN customer service is horrendous. Quality control is also just as bad
Fun stuff. Thanks. One thing I learned from doing my videos is remove reflective stuff off the dash🤣
Yeah we kept loosing the tag and the park was getting upset. Lesson learned
Thanks for making and answering my questions on best camera for foggy conditions 😊
BTW fuck hunters and animal abusers
Thanks a lot for the information. Very helpful.
Good review. But how did it change from non-clear to clear images please? If that's because you sent it back and got a new one, it'd be horrible.
No the updates is how it improved. Better algorithms
Man these atn thermals are amazing for the price
yes they are cheap because the quality is bad, i spent 4300.00 on 1 and its been repaired or replaced 7 times , you get what you paid for
I was thinking of getting my hands on the 384 and one of the reviews I read said it ate through batteries. On a fresh set of AA batteries how much time have you been able to get out of it?
You may have read about something different. The Thor 4 series doesn’t take AA batteries it has an internal lithium ion battery and on a full charge it’ll go 24 hours maybe more with Bluetooth and WiFi off
@@highimpact9102 cool, thanks for clarifying.
Thanks for the video! Looking for a thermal for pest control out to about 35 yards with a pcp air rifle. Do you think a new 384 would cut it?
I use my 384 on my pcp out to 60 yards and it does very well
@@highimpact9102 thank you
For under 75 yards... A 384 would be fine. Probably want 1 or 2x for wider field of view.
Which would you recommend for 150 yard coyote shooting. 384 4-18 or 640 1-10
It’s hard to beat that 640 resolution but at 1 power I would say go with the 384 and don’t use any zoom
640 3 or 4 x
Is there an update to the Thor 4 384 ?
What do you all use to scan the area? Do you use the thor, or a handheld thermal?
Whatever is in my hand at the time. I use a pvs14 and flir breach for most of my scanning/tagging
I'll add this to anybody thinking of buying a ATN scope. The price on Amazon floats up and down like a bobber. If you look at this daily price chart you can see the price goes up and down. This might help you save a thousand on this type of scope. camelcamelcamel.com/product/B01DXXN228?active=summary&context=partner&ctx_prid=2&ctx_pid=58356563&ctx_cid=95686733&ctx_aid=396148639&ctx_pt=price_amazon&abt=at&abv=foundation&abid=eaf459bbfbb9fb0c3b6bb6b0eb47ec4142bb233904e3e23de66ff5d11dfff900&oelid=12X8V5T9F0R3Z7G095S&ctx_act=product&ctx_src=chart
what temperature was it out when you shot the video? thanks!
Summer 2019
Wow the 640 is amazing
Thanks for making this. Did you purchase thr 384 new ? What did you do to improve the resolution ? Thanks
Yes I purchased the unit new. The updates ATN puts out is what improved the resolution. They put out an update every few months for improvements
High Impact ok thanks that’s good to know , I have the new Thor LT, I like it but it’s sensor is only 160, I doubt it has an update but I’ll check. I’m debating getting the newer Thor 320, but seems like the Thor 384 1.25-5x will be the same price and it would seem the 384 sensor will still be better then the newer 320.
I was a cheap ass and bought the Thor LT 160. Don't waste your money; save up for the Thor 4 640. It's the plain Jane of the Thor Thermals. It's probably good for up to about 200 yards. The digital zoom is shit and doesn't go in increments like the other scopes.
Yup, I just got a 5-50. What I will say is don't go to Amazon and just buy it. I took 16 months to buy mine. The price changes every single day. It maxes around $4,800, then it drops down $100 bucks every day and eventually it goes down to $2,900. Then all the sudden it resets back to $4,800. I googled around for a company that monitors the price and emails me when it reaches my price point. So I got mine for around $3,500 with taxes. Then next day I check Amazon and its back to $4,800 Which the HDMI I hooked up a Atomos Ninja 5 so I can record in Pro res and everyone around me can see what I'm hunting.
Even with with ThOR 4 640, the zoom feature is absolute shit. Just one click and the image looks like hell. iRay needs to teach them some shit.
Excellent comparison! Your commentary is spot on!
Thank you Sir... save me alot of money... after watch your video.....
How much?
I have one 384 1.5 the cheapest one but the image is super better than what you showing, that looks bad,i think that the factory problem some of the thermal expensive but it got poor image, someone it's cheap but nice image lol.
What was your distance to the animals? Thanx!
Col Jr about 60 yards. It really looks waay better than the video shows
How comfortable are you with the field-of-view of each scope?
Terry Pickl I’m happy with it for what I do. I have never looked through anything else besides what I have so I really don’t have anything to compare it to so I can’t say if one is better than the other or field of view is better at lower or higher magnification. Sorry I just don’t know
@@highimpact9102 Please allow me to re-word the question. While using the scopes do you ever wish you had a wider view to see more? Where you find yourself having frequently to pan the scope side-to-side to look around? 👍😎👌
Yes I do find myself panning around especially when it’s something close. Shoot an armadillo at 15 yards and it runs out of the scope
Nice to see an honest review/comparison. I've had a 384 for a couple years. Have been wondering how much better then 640 was and if it was anywhere close to a halo lr. Seems like it doesn't come close to a halo, but it's half the price. Do you regret not just spending the money that you spent on the 2 atns on an nvision or trijicon?
Derick Lebron no I do not have any regrets. I have a wife and 3 kids so thermal can get really expensive really quick. I would rather everyone in the family have one opposed to one expensive one to share. I’m sure they are nicer ones out there but these suit us very well
Do you think ATN customer service is up to par? I'm looking at the 384 4.5x pretty hard. Thanks
Yes I do. In the past no. I did have to send my 640 back several times but was never asked to do anything more than show receipt and describe the problem. For my troubles they offered $150 of in store credit and sent a hat and T-shirt. It was quicker and easier to email. They were about 1.5 hours getting in touch with me by phone
@@highimpact9102 Good to know. I just got a 640 5-50 and heard terrible things about their CS. So it was a major risk even buying this.
They’ve been terrible in the past but no issues for past year or so
