MTB // Part 3 is up and running! // Full Te Tuarā // Mt. Victoria, WGTN, NZ
First of all, apologies for casing everything. Secondly thanks and well done to everyone involved in getting this project off the ground and seeing it through to the end. Pretty cool to have such a fun, long and fast blue flowy-jump trail like this in Welly. Really enjoy part three and definitely look forward to seeing footage of all the rad, shreddy kids smashing it. Great opening day, great turnout and lots of good vibes all round. Thanks for Watching. Chur!

Im counting this one, I don't care what anyone says. Was joined by the bro Mike today for a mean and long overdue session up Makara Peak today, and his first go down Ridgeline. A track I've hit up a handful of times previously and it's been niggling me for a while now to go get it done properly. Heres how it went down... Fair warning: It's not fast or pretty but im stoked. With a a bet with myself that I'm going to get the V&A drop done and ticked off before the end of the year I thought I should come back and get some time in on this awesome Grade 5 Black trail. Super rusty and as slow as ever here but goodness me this track has it all and as I've mentioned before it's an excellent starting point for those of us looking to branch out more from Grade 4s into the ...

your going to have to add some pronouns to your email for that performance hahahaha
My pronouns are im/shit but theyre not in my email. Ill let you know when i return to this trail with all the excitement that I return to your mum with hahaaaa
nice one you should give it a go again as its dry now :)
Definitely on the list this summer to tick it off! Shouldnt be much trouble by now i wouldnt think. But does it ever really dry down there? haha
nice looks like your jumps have improved a lot :)
@@drTeddyJo thank you! Definitely been working on it and a bit of help from Bryn has done wonders. Just gotta keep trying to get higher and stop bending me bloody knees haha. Cheers!
My fav warmup on the Peak is Smokin'... Snake Charmer... 3 Brothers Pt 3... Rinse Repeat... The drop on Smokin' is light enough that the climb back up Snake Charmer doesn't kill me for another run down Smokin' I still think if someone made of money springs for a track extension... Zac's should break left at 3:06 and continue along on a slight downhill slope to pick up Varleys exit track instead of the uphill section that follows... They could then run a new track from Makara Rd to K2 so you can do a full run from Makara Peak top to Karori Park instead of having to ride South Karori Rd out.
well done. I actually like the pace as it show how (Gnarly) all the features and lines you conqueor them. also would like to know what's next goal?
Thanks bro! Probably Vertigo next, well overdue to go get that done. Cheers for watching!
Subtle way of saying "you sure went slow" q8D not that I could do any better... (tho I did manage to ride all but the tiny drop on my wee 26" wheels (including a run on my 20+yo Foes and an awful run on a hard tail with Y-Brake front and RST 3" forks...) Last time I rode it I could have done the drop but somehow side stepped it, and couldn't b bothered going back. I even filmed a run on the 'Faith' in light drizzle. the top was surprisingly grippy in the wet.
@TheButlerNZ it was definitely slow, no denying that 🤣
@@tbc_mtb Enjoy Vertigo.. I love it.. also think I filmed my run in light drizzle... I've done all but the set of steps with a 90deg right at the bottom of them either just before or just after the spiral... before I think... I even did it on the Ybrake Barracuda but didn't do the spiral with it.
@@TheButlerNZ sick, cheers mate. Have checked it out twice now I think. Done it all bar the A-Line chute, hoping ridgeline will give us a good confidence boost. Should be good times. Slow, but good times.
Is this a easy track

My man! Hope you're good G!
Smooth operator, smooooooth operator
Slow operator 🤣
@@tbc_mtb Slow operator that can still count all appendages attached at the end that were attached at the beginning... a plus in anyone's book in that weather. Starfish can be 'fun' when wet... A few years ago (circa 2018) i went down it on a hard tail with RST 3" forks, Vee brakes and fairly Kojack tyres... Got to the triple (6:35) and by the 2nd drop I fairly well managed a front slide of about 2m with the wheel 30deg to the right before it tucked and sent me on a barrel roll... I switched to the ol Foes after that and loved it so much, bought the Giant Faith and took up DH as a serious hobby.. at 50... I really need to service my rear shock and go for a ride... I've been throwing so much plastic at trees I haven't been up the mount for a year...
Oooft. Nice!! Good riding bro.
Thank you sir! 👊 one day we'll link up for a shred, either side of the tasman, doesn't bother me! Chur!
I find the uphill climbs on LL put me off it.. and with the remote exit.. and too fast far end downhill (too fast as in it's all over too quickly) I only do LL if there's someone new to introduce to it... I always thought the 2:29 section went for height, when they should have gone for 'round the right' level, lost that one peak but kept the flow... Ebikers can have the climbs. 5:20 the second climb that could have been skirted left or right of the firebreak after such a fun/unique fast run ridge.. and it's only a short steep run at the other side before hitting 6:06 I do really like the far drop... but with those 3 climbs getting there and the big climb just before decent.. I'm a bit spent on the down, and completely done at the end of the video... which misses out the largest climb back out of the last valley.. and that road ride back up the valley to the car park... Its a ride I wouldn't do 1st as I would be dead for any further climb up to the peak... and I fear doing it last as I personally need an ambulance ride back up the road... I did ride it circa 2019 on my hard tail with Vee brakes up front... Honestly it wasn't that much easier on a 7" full with disc brakes (Course the bike was better... but I wasn't).
For me it's totally worth it, have come to enjoy and embrace the suffering and climbing as I want to get fitter, do the mahi - get the treats as they say. Plus being over that side of the hill always feels like more of an adventure like you're in the middle of nowhere. Definitely need to hit this more, and get it way faster since it's so much fun down there! Cheers! Matey with me hadn't been down those ways before either so to hear he was grinning from ear to ear, especially the latter 3rd made it even better!
@@tbc_mtb I've been over 'That side of the hill' for about 15 years. 🙂 I love the Nikau Valley (Ans Super Kanuka) too but all require a level of energy my batteries haven't been able to store for the last couple of years (and i don't ride an E)
Nice trail dam i love DH, ride wild always- Full support here

What a run! It’s mint…
Nice video mate! 🚴♂️🤘
Thanks brother!
Is it just me, or is it (according to YouTub uploads) that your one of 2-3 riders left riding the hills of wellington at the moment... (Must admit I have been off my bike for a year.... I've been busily throwing plastic at trees instead.... course it could also be that YouTwrep sucks soo badly now that uploaders have all gone elsewhere...)
Yeah you might be right, haven't noticed it on youtube and fortunately this platform isn't an accurate representation of the population as I've been seeing loads of people out riding lately, it's been mint conditions! Was really busy up mt vic the day I filmed this video. Love to see it.
Ooooft! Good riding lad… sort that squeaky disc out though Kent. 😅
im kinda hoping my brakes keep sounding like shit - then ill use them less and therefore stop being a slow kook. 😂
I thought he was just honking at that rider up front to get out of the way... q8)

hey mate sorry that you crashed. Def try out car parts extension barking emu and red rocks loop.
Cheers bro, all good, defo got some bruised ribs and a bruised ego after that, didn't have it in me to hit up Serendipity though. Have done car parts a few times but usually can't be bothered going all the way up there. Where do I find barking emu and red rocks loop? Cheers mate!
@@tbc_mtb fair enough . You did well to do Ikigai after that. So car parts extension is different from car parts , if you look at trail forks, you start from the top but then go to the right instead of turning left to car parts. Then from car parts extension, you can do barking emu and then red rocks. It makes an epic adventure . Trail atlas has a video of it .
@@tbc_mtb there’s also spooky gully which is fun .
