well done, how much did one rider cost you?
@solovei8235 check the Only Games website to see in your currency. But about $5 Australian for me.
Totally relate to not wanting a 3D printer due to it seeming like a Pandoras Box of hobby opportunity. I’d basically need to go up into the mountains for a year and come back with thousands of miniatures.
@@Dan-ds8sf yeah. Too addictive!
Obviously, once you produce a horses kit you need to start producing kits of riders. The figures look good but there must be a lot of work required putting them together - even more than with standard plastic kits. I think even just on price alone most people will stick with the Victrix kits.
@pauljeffrey4054 yeah. Good to have the option. I guess if you own a 3D printer and want a big cav brigade it'd make sense to buy the STL files.
Any chance you can do a basing video? Really love your go to bases and would be great to know your process!
yep. Easy. Shouldn't be too far off.
3d printed things can be a mixed bag of results, especially for a company that is used to more traditional forms of modeling (like casting, resin molds, etc). I would venture to guess that the idea is good one, at least modular pieces to add to already existing kits...trying to get tied with the 3d printing market. But, it's a lot of work to keep up and they probably need to put more resources into it if they want to compete with the better 3d printed models out there.
Great looking and basing, cracking job!!
Superb trio, from the base to the top of the helmets!
Thanks muchly !
Splendid figures, love the elephant base, awesome!
Great looking figures.
You brought them to life! Splendid Hoplites, I do like the paint job, base and shields... 👍👍
Thanks. I used a spray paint of bright red as the base coat. I'm not really happy w the end result on the tunics. Anyhow it's good to experiment w new methods from time to time :)
Another good and interesting video. I'm no expert, but putting those shields in the pack in lieu of the standard "aspis" is surely a mistake? I purchased some Black Tree figures direct many years ago and had to drill out the hands to fit spears, but I don't recall either soft metal spears or wire being sent with my order (my memory may be at fault). They had also sent shields that were different from the pictures on their website. Nothing bad against them, but I decided to stick with Foundry figures for the bulk of my "armies" (pre plastic era - circa 2008 -2011?). I wonder if plastic or even " print your own" figures will eventually fully supersede the old metal figures - a reminder to myself to "get on" and purchase whatever few figures I may need to complete my collections before they are gone. Anyway, great review as always. Cheers.
Thanks. I can't see metal figures ever getting redundant. Many still prefer them.
Great looking Velites, well done!
Those look good GSAMM. The white paint makes them look ghostly.
Could you show them next to some other makes including Victrix for size comparison? Many thanks.
@@neilcook9088 - will do in the next video. Out Thursday
I am not a 3D printer and do not know the technical practicalities or difficulties of 3D printing. I do like good 3D printed figures and one of the benfits of 3D printing to my mind would be that it allows the designer to achieve more dynamic poses which would not be possible with cast or moulded figures. A completely stationary elephant is therefore somewhat underwhelming. Some of the other figures look good though. Thank you for the review.
I know what you mean although having commenced the elephant I like it a lot.
Incredible details and wonderful paint job, they look awesome!!
Anyone know how these fit with MESBG figures?
Terrific work as always. Current postage costs to Australia and New Zealand for the miniatures hobby I feel are prohibitively high, particularly from the U.S. I believe some companies (such as Warlords in the U.K.) won't even allow you to place an order unless it totals a certain monetary amount. Anyway, excellent presentation. Cheers.
I also have both versions of these horses. I think the original horses were a little too wide for some riders, even without the blanket. Tyecnew light horses are thinner and and more versatile. I like the new head and reins and these horses are I think more animated. I think the light horses will have more uses for gamers and are my preferred. I use them to mount 3d printer riders, for example Medbury minis. Thank you for review.
What rules would you use with these? Nice paint job
Thanks for this. From my reading of Nigel Tallis' work, I think maybe the cab is too wide. The idea was to have a wide axle for stability but a narrow cab to keep the weight centred. I think maybe your yoke saddles are a bit far back.
Lovely looking model! I haven't dipped my toes into W.A's ancient ranges yet, but they really do look nice.
@jvcpaints yeah. They're excellent quality. On the chunky side for 28mm. I like the plastic they use. Harder than most
Those paint jobs look great, awesome work
You certainly buy a lot of minis. :-)
yeah but I never seem to have enough :)
I think these chariots look similar to ones depicted carrying Lydian hoplites so as late the 6th century BC in some places.
oooh. Nice idea for a project !
Superb painting and basing as always...and I do like the bronze age chariots, such a fantastic period!! COngrats!
Nice chariots and paint job. I wonder how the excellent Victrix Celtic Chariot compares in size. I like tge new Atlantic horses that come with the mounted Afghan set. I am eyeing the new Wargames Atlantic werewolves set, but hzvent seen it for sale in Australia yet.
Superb painting and basing, you can be proud of your job!!!
thanks Phil
Nice, love the Utican flavor. Just another one of those unique communities that was swallowed up by the Romans.
@busydad_painting "what have the Romans ever done for us ?"
@@greatsouthernancientminiat8812 Ha! I just watched that. "Certainly now they keep order. Let's face it, they're the only ones who could in a place like this"
@@busydad_painting " the aquaducts.... public health...."
Nice unboxing...unbagging. Wish they had that kind of detailed insert for some of their ancient kits. Liked the Weird War giant battle at the end. lol
Could I ask where you got the transfer / decals for the green shields? 💚
@rickythompson6874 they're mostly Veni Vidi Vici. (Look in the Greek or Hellenic category on their website.) The crescent moons are from an old Warhammer sheet.
Hopefully Agema go back to their historics, they're very good.
look cool
Excellent painting and basing mate
Great video looks amazing well done 🤠🤠🤠
@robandrosehobden3344 thanks muchly 😉
Can you imagine a war elephant for real?
Another excellent review, and the finished models look great.
@Dan-ds8sf thanks very much 👍
Do you give an introduction to the soldiers of Utica, how do you recognize their emblems and green color? tell me the source, very interesting
@solovei8235 the colour scheme is pure fiction. I just wanted to set them apart from my Carthaginians. Symbols are Punic. I assume being of Phonecian origin they would have shared these w Carthaginians.
Great description of the set , great paint job ,models and bases 👍👍👍, for chainmail on plastic models, vallejo Model metallic Air black 71.073👍👍👍wonderfull results
@@Ronaldt1967Thanks. Do you apply the Vallejo w brush or airbrush?
@@greatsouthernancientminiat8812 with an brush, one coat , it highlight it self, somehow plastic is always sort of odd weird alien strange chainmail😜
Thx. I'll have to try that.
Wonderful work, congrats!!
I really like the Utican Spearmen. Experimenting with colors can give great benefits. I've personally used the Carthaginian Citizens Militia with Relic small round shields as Phoenician spearmen for my own Persian Army, and think they probably could be used for very early Carthaginian/Punic militia or marines as well. I will say it would help if you worked on your mic settings or possibly got a new one as its very difficult to hear in this video.
show me how you do transfers on shields? I ruined 3 pieces, but I can see the shine of the client and seams
The LBMS transfers require a little bit of patience to get right. Cut around the image and then trim closer to the image with a small pair of scissors or a sharp blade and ruler. Then peel off the clear part and stick it to the shield. some shields have a left and right side, so be careful to get them orientated the same way up. I use a small bowl of water to dip my fingers in and then touch the transfer down firmly with your wet fingers. The backing paper will be easy to slide off leaving the image behind. You can then tidy up areas with paint as required such as the edging or central shield spine. Then use matt varnish over the transfer to seal it on and take off the shine. The results are well worth the effort as the shields are a strong focal point for ancient models. Hope that helps.
@@derek6631 Thank you very much, do I understand correctly that I should cut out the image and not the "shield circle" itself and glue only the image and then finish drawing the shield in that color?
@solovei8235 thanks for the suggestion. I might do that. For now there are lots of videos showing how to apply Little Big Man Studio transfers and others.
@@greatsouthernancientminiat8812 yes, there are many videos, but there is no how to make it beautiful, I can glue it crookedly without a video, and then the client's appearance remains on the shield, how to cover it with varnish later, which one do you recommend? how to cut it correctly, there is none of this
@@solovei8235 Can you please specify which shield designs you are talking about? Some shields have a hole cut out already and is one piece. Others have two pieces that need to be cut and trimmed separately to fit such as the Roman scutum. Make sure the shield is primed white for best results.
Retributor armour (citadel) with vallejo wash -dark khaki green is my recipe .Great vid , good to see al the differences. Scale 75 Necron and viking gold are also nice options 👍👍👍
Great job great details in the paint job and basing , why are there no Aventine miniatures and Lucid Eye miniatures in this list
Nice job ,why is Aventine miniatures and Lucid eye miniatures (Rome) not in your list
@@Ronaldt1967 I have done some Aventine videos. And actually git another coning in the next month or so. Not got any Lucid Eye figures.
@@greatsouthernancientminiat8812 jep ,I found them ,sorry, very nice one on horse in the Greek section , all the Greek are superb , very nice choice of colors
well done!
Henry de Bohun was an English knight who was killed by Robert Bruce at the Battle of Bannockburn.
They're great looking models, it's the price that's the downside. 12quid for 4 dudes, that's 3 pound per bloke. That's nearly games workshop prices.
@@TheDelta07sev yeah. It's a pity they can't do them a bit cheaper.
They look great. How do V&V scale up with Victrix? I’ve been eyeing some of their Dark Age stuff. Also, where do those prickly little red shrubs you have on the V&V guys at the end come from?
@Dan-ds8sf they scale very well. As per 1/2 those guys on the turn table. In general VandV are a tiny bit taller and slimmer
Thay looks great brilliant pant work 👍👍👍🤠🤠🤠
