Above is my CNN Academy assignment funded by Rockefeller Foundation for the Climate Storytelling Storytelling Simulation training, which occurred in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
My story features an elderly woman who was marooned in her house during heavy floods in Sagana during the El Nino season.
It also highlights the negative impact of flooding on riparian zones and the need to build the capacity of community stakeholders in water sports to be trained on how to rescue flood victims when crisis arrives.
It goes ahead to highlight the possible climate mitigation and adaptation case study by the Ministry of Fisheries, where bamboo has been planted along Ragati stream riparian zone for conservation for the fish ponds in the project.
The call to action inspires communities living in riparian zones to seek long-term solutions such as bamboo afforestation for riparian zones and capacity building for water sports stakeholders to scale up rescue efforts during flood seasons..
Thus, Blue Economy meets the green economy.
