Mamiya RB67 vs. Fujifilm GW670iii | A Camera Comparison
I recently purchased the Fujifilm GW670iii and I wanted to compare it to my main camera, the Mamiya RB67.

Would love to see some more about the GW670s bokeh. Also if only that camera had a built in light meter it would be a cult pick!
dude you're right, that would be awesome! i do like though that its all mechanical so never have to worry about batteries. definitely a trade-off though
Nice video, makes me want to carry my RB67 more
heck yea! i still love that camera
Came across this as I have recently been watching a lot of videos related to Fuji gw690 (purchased one myself). Look forward to potentially more content with your experience on the 670. Also appreciate someone taking pictures in an area I'm familiar with even though I don't live there anymore
Started out looking for a gw690 but the 670 seems to be rare
for sure! looking to get back into UA-cam soon, it's been a while haha!
thanks for that test, . I am behind a medium format camera and it is so useful, eventhough if blurishes my mind.. hehehe. For example I always thought the rangefinder system was very difficult to catch the right focus... anyway!!! I am afraid of the weight of the RB67 so I am considering one of the Mamiya 645 serie. Frame ratio apart, do you think the image quality is the same. I love portra 800, do you think the saturation and sharpening is the same between the RB670 and the 645 super? or please help!!
I would be confident to say any mamiya lenses will perform great. the sharpness and saturation is nothing to worry about. personally, i believe your exposure is much more important to yield the color results you want. hope this helps!
Your metering on both might not have been the same
some of the shutter speeds dont line up perfectly, but they were effectively the same.
Too bad you didnt get the 90 for mamiya (you could even go KL instead of C for the same fstop) Also, I question your decision to compare resolution with scannined negatives. I recommend enlarging ;) regardless nice vid :)
so true, it wouldve been awesome to have that lens. just used what I had
what's the difference between f3.5 and f3.8 vs the price justification.. plus, they are both old lenses so we cannot say one is newer than the other. it's all a function of how it was used.. My suggestion: get any non-c, c , nb, kl whatever, they are all the same.. I have them all and it's a waste thinking you're getting anything better from the latest.. no difference at all.. ( my shots are straight into the sun just to let you know my use case )
@@joshmcdzz6925 k/l is newer lens for sure.
Decades ago, I used Mamiya TLR medium format cameras with 55/80/180mm lenses for weddings. When it was time to replace my worn-out wedding cameras, I replaced them with a Fuji GW670iii rangefinder with a fixed 90mm lens and a Fuji GSW 690iii rangefinder with a fixed 65mm lens. However, I was never able to find a medium format Fuji with a telephoto lens so I purchased a Mamiya RB67 SLR with a 180mm telephoto. I now use 50/90/180mm lenses on my RB67 for studio work and I use my two Fuji rangefinders for field work.
wow! what a crazy progression over time! so cool that each of them had a special use case for you though. i love having. both the RB67 and GW670iii for different purposes too. thanks for the comment!
That a range finder is easier to focus depends on the subject. If you try to focus on a single branch of a tree, or another subject with many crossing lines. It's nearly impossible to focus. Fuji lenses - well at least those on the GW and GSW models - tend to be very sharp and have a nice contrast. I own the RB67 as well as a GW690 and a GSW680III. For shooting at 90mm I prefer the RB - I don't really like the 3:2 ratio. For 65mm it depends, for landscapes it depends, if you want to use filters or easily switch between film the RB wins. Also then you have the possibility to change the focal length. But in the city or when you want to be lighter, the GSW680 III is a great choice. I don't use it that much, I did this weekend. I almost forgot how nice this camera is.
i love this perspective - i totally agree that the versatility of the RB is unmatched. different films, filters, lenses, it’s amazing for that. that’s why i’m leaning towards not selling it because they are just both different cameras. i do love the 670 for the compact and lightweight aspects. i think just for the season im in right now, im prioritizing travel and ease of use, but i can totally see later down the road wanting to have the options the RB provides.
@@filmbenjamin moral of the story: never sell a camera 😆
@@Uwe_Ludolf hahaha basically😂
You could change out the focus screen on the RB, I think they made 6 or 7 different versions.
yea! i’m just learning this now, i would love to try some out
This is correct! They make a split image rangefinder-style screen which I have in my RB. That said I don't think it's essential I've never had a problem focusing with the normal screen.
I changed mine for a Rick Oleson with split prism focusing. Priceless.
The Film Marshal does it again. A beautiful video with beautiful photos as usual. Would come again!
so flattering, you would what? thanks dude, ‘ppreciate ya
Well done video comparison! I would be thrilled to use either one of the cameras! I think it really comes down to what and where are you using the cameras! As you said, portraits I think would favor the Mamiya for usage. However, if I was going hiking and was wanting to keep the packing weight down, the Fiji would be my choice!
totally agree! that’s why i think it’d be so hard to let go of either one of them!
I'd be inclined to keep both myself if I was lucky enough to have both! Enjoy them!
i could hardly tell a difference between most shots. i bet whoever scanned that one comp just picked a bad white balance spot. with the size and focus benefits of the fuji i'd probably shoot that one mainly. what's the price difference between the two cameras?
yea that seems like what probably happened. and ~$500 more for the fuji
your best video yet. I was smiling for like 69% of it. well done film marshall.
thank you hudson :) that warms my heart ♡ and nice
Awesome video! I'm absolutely obsessed with film and this helps calm my cravings
Great vid! 👏🏼👏🏼
thanks so much brian!

I like the RB67 more
its such a sick camera
AYYYYYY ITS A GOOD DAY DONT SELL THE RB!!!
^^^
hahaha dont worry andrew, i won't anytime soon ;)
Thanks for the video. Back in my film-only days, I shot a lot of portraits and weddings with Kodak and Fuji 160 portrait film. I have never used Kodak Gold. Is the color in the images shown in your video typical of Kodak Gold? I ask because I do not like it. I would never have used it for weddings or portraits.
thanks for the comment! the colors out of these photos aren’t raw, they’re edited, but the raw colors are more contrasty. lomography.com is a great resource for seeing raw photos of film stocks if you want to see more!
on another note, does anyone know how to get rid of the green line on the right side of the photos that comes from final cut pro?? I've seen it in other people's vids too, lmk
sick photos, but did u buy a sodie pop ??
nope, didn't wanna risk it
very cool you met another film traveler 🎉
you always mispronounce Kodak Goat** 200
i will do better next vid😕
Good to chat with you out there on the flats!

the evenly spaced zoom footage at the end 🙌
This is sick. I love the handycam footage.
thanks andrew! city of rock collab soon?? ;)
Great video, with beautiful photographs. If you ever want to buy some new gear, I recommend buying PD metered prism for the 67 I know the focusing is a mess in harsh sun with the waist level
thanks so much! and ive thought about the eye level finder, good to know you recommend it!
I love when The Film Marshal uploads!
