We will all have electric cars in 20 years time, with a great infrastructure for charging or charging on the go (a bit like Scalextric), or places where you can change batteries for a charged one. We have so much power for inventiveness in this country and the world, no one wants to go back to relying fully on oil and gas anymore.

What about the runaway fire on the ship in the North Sea. one in 6 of all cars on board were EV's not the 25 you claimed. out of the 2980 that gives 500 almost! once they go on fire (for whatever reason) they cannot be extinguished, they have to be allowed to burn out! The fumes that they give off are so toxic they can kill or permanently disable! The most likely time for the batteries to go on fire is during charging, I|E at night when the owners are asleep and could very well be killed either by the fumes or the fire engulfing the home with them inside!

I have my doubts, place I worked had 2 Nissan and within 6 months both of their ranges had dropped 30% capacity. Plus, show me an old mobile with the same battery life as new.

What about the fact uk government are still burning coal to convert into electricity, rendering the whole thing pointless, or the fact we don't have the infrastructure in place for electric cars

Valuable interview. Very educative and constructive. Shane has focused attention on a number of heterto unheeded issues and venues in respect of carbon emission that requisition immediate attention of all nations. He not only highlights these impending catastrophes but also offers very practical sugessions in addressing them satisfactorily. Hope this trend will gather due anxiety and momentum and be a top priority concern of the WHO. He appears to have extracted statistical data from authoritative sources.

Well, what do you know. Like you, Sam Cande, I am blown away by some of these stats and impacts brought up by Shane Herath - things we just do not think about (the 'stand-by', for example) and certainly it is the case that we need to vastly rethink this wasteful upgrade culture of ours... Thank you for an informative post.
