Nice approach. But need time to get to know all Tana's settings.
Thank you! Yes, it took me a while to fully grasp all the features, but I have to say, the time I invested in learning Tana was absolutely worth it.
If someone wants a watchlist and watched gallery. You can add a status propery in the template and use filter in gallery view to filter the movies which you watched and not.
Absolutely! Thank you for sharing your tip :)
Thanks Marco! Great system and outstanding video explanation.
Thank you very much, Jim!
Awesome. Very useful, thanks for sharing
Thank you, Marcos! I’m glad you found it helpful!
👍👍👍👍
This is brilliant! Thank you so much
Thank you! Glad you liked it :)
Don't care about mobile users at all!!
When I add a bank account and try to add in a ledger expense, my bank does not show up. 2nd video in a row where the step by steps do not work.
It’s possible something might have gone wrong during the process. Feel free to send me more information (e.g., screenshots), so I can try to help you. Cheers!
What plugin do you use for the fancy icons in front of the entries of your File Explorer?
It’s called “Iconic”
thank you!
Nice video!!! Thanks! Is there any way in Obsidian to import data from a .csv file to create all files inside People folder??
Thank you!! You can try with the community plugin “JSON/CSV Importer”. I haven’t personally used it, but it seems like a good option to explore. Here's the link: obsidian://show-plugin?id=obsidian-import-json
Hi, thank you for the video, but if I want to create the same gallery, but with different subsections. Like: Books - Postmodern Philosophy - Derrida (and other authors) and only within the Derrida section (I would like to see his books, also as a gallery). How can this be realized? Would I have to create a pile of projects?
Hey there! No need to create multiple projects for this. You can use a single project and set up multiple gallery views, each with its own filters to display specific books. Alternatively, you can stick to one gallery view and adjust the filters on the fly to show the books you’re interested in at any given time.
does this work for a vault that needs to be accessed via multiple OS? i want to use my vault between ipad and windows
This is good for backup/version history. For syncing, consider exploring options like iCloud, Google Drive, or other cloud services. Alternatively, Obsidian Sync, in my opinion, is the best choice, though it is a paid solution. Keep in mind that if you use iCloud on Windows, be aware that it can sometimes lead to issues like file duplication or corruption.
This was just too easy thank you for taking the time to make this video ❤️
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
Can this be done without using tana paste?
You can use the “Insert cloned copies of nodes” command, but I recommend doing so only if you don’t need to automatically apply supertags to the nodes when inserting them. If you type "#name_of_supertag" next to the nodes listed in the “Node(s) to insert” field under this command, the supertag won’t actually be applied to those nodes. Instead, you must manually apply the supertags to the nodes themselves in the “Node(s) to insert” field. However, this approach has a downside: when you search for nodes tagged with that supertag in your workspace, the nodes in the “Node(s) to insert” field will also appear in the search results, which might not be ideal. To avoid this issue, use the “Tana Paste” command. With this command, you can write "#name_of_supertag" next to the nodes in the prompt field without applying the supertag directly to the nodes. When you execute the command, the inserted nodes in the target location will automatically have the specified supertag applied. It might be confusing to read, but I hope it makes sense!
@ this makes sense. Thanks!
is this safe ?
Hey Imal! What are your concerns about this?
hey when you do series: then press - title: Title X, do you press enter to write data? It auto creates another - list and it works but having the - in front creates a new title
Hey! Press "Enter" while holding "Shift". Let me know if it works for you. ;)
Thanks for the great video. Tip: When you put the quantity before the ingredient, all quantities are scaled, ie. 1 clove garlic
Thank you, Robby! Yes, you are right. Thank you for highlighting that :)
i missed the part why you use templater too! can you explain it
Hey! I prefer using Templater because it offers more options to customize my workflows through its internal functions and scripts. I will demonstrate this in more detail in my upcoming Obsidian course :)
I am now using Logseq for my daily notes and tasks, and obsidian for everything else (in the same vault). I wander if this can make me switch to just obsidian, looks fairly promising.
Let me know what you think after you test it out!
perfect video, short, to the point and very clear
Thank you, Antonio! Happy to hear that!
easier than I expected, thank you!
Thank you, Madalynn! Glad it helped :)
I followed along with the tutorial but now I am getting a "tasks query" error letting me know the templator syntax line is invalid... can you help? Thanks!
Hey! It’s tough to help out without at least seeing the query you’re working with. Feel free to share it here or drop it in my Discord server :)
Is it possible to backlink to the journal daily notes and not the Obsidian daily notes?
If you want to keep the daily note plugin disabled, you can use a text property field and insert a classic internal link, such as [[2025-01-01]]. However, there is no need to do this. Even if you use the Journals plugin to create daily notes, enabling the daily note plugin allows Obsidian to automatically generate a link to the daily note if a date field is present in your note.
@Marco_Mindstone Thanks. Yes, if I have the Daily note on, it makes an automatic link, but when I go to that link, it creates a new daily note and does not create a daily note in the journey plugin. Do you have this issue as well?
@@sjoerdvanharmelen Oh, I understand what you mean. Yes, I confirm that if you create a daily note by clicking the link icon in the date property field, the note won't be assigned to the Journals plugin. You need to create it from the Journals plugin.
Do you also use the daily note plugin From obsidian himself. Or have you turned it off?
Hi, I keep the daily note plugin enabled to see the small link icon next to the date property.
Do you use an extra spotlight search plugin for your mac??
Hi, I use Raycast.
thank goodness this I watched this video, I have both calendar and periodic notes plugins but this looks like its going to make my journaling nicer!! now i just have to learn how to use templater.....
I'm glad to hear you liked it! Actually, I'm currently preparing the Templater guide for my upcoming Obsidian course. 😅 By the way, you can find an introductory video about Templater on my channel; it might help you get started with using it! Cheers
Great video!
Thank you, Rafael!
How does your 'On this day...' work? that looks cool
Hey! It's a dataview query that retrieves that specific daily note from the past years. Here you have it: ```dataview LIST WHERE file.day.month = date(<% tp.file.title %>).month AND file.day.day = date(<% tp.file.title %>).day AND file.day.year != date(<% tp.file.title %>).year ```
Now how to export that crm to Integrate other tools? I want to create a crm that allowed me to write locally and then publish to my website on framer...
Since your CRM consists of markdown files, you need to find a way to extract the content from them for automatic import into your website. Unfortunately, there is no plugin available to achieve this, so you should explore automation platforms to see what they can offer. With that said, I suggest finding an alternative if you want to integrate your system with different tools. Obsidian is excellent for privacy and a "local-first" approach, but it can be limiting in certain scenarios.
The easiest and most straightforward way I found as an Obsidian newbie. Thanks!
Glad to hear that! Thank you :)
Hi Marco, thanks for sharing this awesome video. how did you manage get Arc in Dark mode?
Thank you, Steve! You can do that from "View > Appearance > Dark"
@@Marco_Mindstone Thanks a lot, am guessing this for mac cause i don't see it in windows. i finally was able to enable it through arc://flags/
@ Yes, sorry. My solution was for Mac 😅
Thanks for this, Marco! I love this plugin since I learned about it here. One question I have is when I create my daily note through the native plugin instead of clicking on the Jounral plugin cal, it doesn't add the properties. The only way I've found to add the properties is through the calendar. Any suggestions on having Journal work with the native capabilities better?
Hey! I think the best way to achieve your goal is to insert those properties directly into the note template you use for your daily notes.
@ appreciate it! 🙌
Hello Merco, your content is great ! I'm now using modal form and QuickAdd with your workflow and I have a question, is it possible to output a value as a [[wikilink]] through the modal form ?
Thank you, Antoine! It's been a while since I last used Modal Form, but it should be possible to insert wikilinks through it, even though it requires some setup. However, I haven't experimented much with this plugin, so I don't have a ready solution to share with you. 😅
Hi Marco, wondering if you are still using Lazy? If so, how has your experience been? And if not, what other tool have you replaced it with for capturing? Also have you checked the app Kortex?
Hey there! 😊 I stopped using Lazy because of the lack of improvements and the team’s limited transparency about their future plans. That said, I’m still keeping an eye on the product. Currently, Tana is my main go-to tool for almost everything (capturing, task management, project management, note-taking, etc), except for client projects, which I manage on ClickUp. I also tried Kortex, and I think it’s a great app, especially for writers. I’m following its development as well, but for now, I don’t feel the need to make the switch. Cheers!
@ Thanks for comprehensive reply! That's the exact system I am using too Tana and Click up. Wanted to check out Lazy but I am reluctant to pay them with no serious roadmap. Hoping Kortex incorporates Lazy features then it will seriously be a game changer.
@@parasx123 Try to leverage AI in Tana if you haven't already. You can create really nice workflows, although it may be a bit more complicated at first compared to other tools.
Will do. Haven't tried that yet. Maybe you can make a video about it :)
Hi Marco! just wanted to say thank you so much for this, I love how this turned out and I subscribed for you just because I'm looking for more tutorials like these! Btw if you could help me, I'm having trouble directly accessing the book notes from the gallery view, if I click on the note link it just gives me this popup to edit its properties, could you help me find a way to directly access the notes from the gallery view? thanks!
Thank you! I'm glad to hear that! To answer your question: by default, the Projects plugin opens the editor when you click on a note link. However, if you press Cmd (or Ctrl on Windows) and click the link, the note will open directly. If you want to change the default behavior, go to the plugin settings and modify the "Link behavior" option. Let me know if that works! Cheers!
Have you got some examples on how you use weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly notes?
Hey Scott! Not yet, but it would be interesting to create a dedicated video or article about that. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely do it!
Great tutorial. How did you know about the schema:upIoadDate structure? I checked Obsidian Help & they didn't have many options. I have an off topic question about your browser. I have the same one and I accidentally put all the extensions on the top right corner. How do I get it to look like yours with the extensions in the sidebar. I've asked on Reddit, but can't figure it out
is your template available to download?
Hey! Right now, only my main Obsidian vault template, and a dedicated vault template for "Content Management", are available for download exclusively for Insiders on my website at mindstoneconsulting.net. But I’ve got some updates coming in the next couple of months! This includes free resources, like a simple, basic Obsidian vault template similar to the one you saw in the video. More details soon...so, stay tuned!
Thanks for the help! What is the spotlight like search bar that you are using on your macbook to navigate and search?
I'm glad to hear you found it helpful! :) Regarding your question, I use Raycast: raycast.com/?via=marco-serafini (affiliate link). Cheers!
Great content ❤️ 👍
Thank you very much!!
Thank you so much. I've tried over 4 different tutorials that were way too complicated, this worked first try!
Happy to hear that, Jeremiah!
Your videos are direct. Without any beating around the bush like most obsidian youtubers. Please keep up this good work.
Thank you very much!! I’ll do my best!
Learnt a lot!
Happy to hear that! 🙌🏻
Interesting Idea!
Thank you! :)
Hi Marco, is there a possebilty to to use this to extract text from a quote with a certain tag? I have different sheets, there I will note down information for different groups during a meeting and tag the targeted group. For the next meeting in group 1 I want to gather all notes for group 1 in my vault in a written list to present them. Thank you for your help!
Dataview doesn’t allow you to filter results with block level granularity, but I think you can do something with Datacore (even if it’s still a work in progress). Cheers!
@@Marco_Mindstone Thanks for the tipp! I'll take look at Datacore , and of corse the prompt answer :) I kinda found a workaround with prefixes and dedicated shortcuts to insert a task directly with a prefix for the different groups. with that I can use the standart query to search an tik off the info I told during the meeting. Indirect I have an overwatch which information has been told at which meeting etc. Kind regards from Switzerland!
@@mikawatzel3272 Anytime! Grouping tasks by a specific tag is a different story tho. You can easily accomplish this with the "tasks" query. I thought you were looking for specific blocks of text. I think I show this process in my video about Obsidian Tasks :) Cheers!
yeah, it's just a workaround for now... the goal would be to gather the quotes with the group tag assigned👍
What theme are you using?
I’m using AnuPpuccin.
Hi. Great guide. I'm new to Obsidian so it took me a while to follow along. I have one question. When a new daily note is created from the template, it is generating properties at the top of the page underneath the user defined tags. These are journal-start-date, journal-end-date and journal-section which is pre-filled with 'day'. How do I remove/hide these? Many thanks
Thank you very much! If I understood correctly, I suppose that you are using the Journals plugin. Unfortunately-I quote Sergii, the guy who made the plugin-, "the plugin is build around using that properties to know about note (what journal and what dates). So it is not possible to make them optional without major rewrite." These are two issues about this topic posted on GitHub: - github.com/srg-kostyrko/obsidian-journal/issues/39 - github.com/srg-kostyrko/obsidian-journal/issues/58 Cheers!
@@Marco_Mindstone thanks for the information. Are you still using journals or daily notes/calendar etc?
@ I’m still using Journals. In my opinion is the best solution.
Way, way better than using the Calendar and Periodic Notes plugins. Not sure how this one hasn't blown up yet.
Completely agree with you!
New to Obs. Could you explain why it’s way better?
@@Krucci-Randi Hey! For me, the main reasons are: - One plugin instead of two. - Multiple journal for different purposes (while I personally stick to one, it’s nice to have the option). - Easy creation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly notes, all directly from the calendar. - Built-in navigation blocks with no need for “complex” Dataview queries. Hope this helps clarify why I prefer Journals! Cheers!
@Marco_Mindstone Thanks for your helpful explanation!
@ Anytime 😉
