Merak - Owen Kirby
The word “Merak” (meh-rak) is a Serbian word that means: a feeling of bliss and the sense of oneness with the universe that comes from the simplest of pleasures. This piece of music started out as a compositional challenge. I asked people on my social media to give me any note from the chromatic scale. The challenge was to take the notes in the order I received them and turn it into the top line, melody, of a piece of music. The soprano saxophone has these notes: notes I did not choose, but rhythms I did choose. I created every other part as I saw fit. And the unusual instrumentation of vocalists and saxophones came to me with wonder and curiosity. My only hope is that the sounds created with all of the interacting parts and the texture of voice and saxophone portray the meaning of this Serbian word, a word that has no direct translation, as best as possible.

The Second

This is a second improvisation from the spontaneous. An ever-changing, through-improvised piece of music. ua-cam.com/play/PLl_h_UNZxZl4ygWJshnYEFfjitFp7PD2d.html These improvisations are simply spontaneity in its essence. Simply just the practice of improvising. I like to make music, and one of the things I do every day I can despite my mediocre abilities is sit down at the piano and improvise....

Oh boy does this country have a blast! People that dance, drink Kava, and just in general have beautiful souls, they are so wonderful. I highly recommend coming to Fiji and covering yourself in mud. Drinking pure culture during a Kava ceremony. What a wonderul country with kids that aren't afraid of anything, even huge cliff jumping! What a divine place.

Our time in Hong Kong was so fast and so vivid. Visiting my mom's old college friend for several days. I feel as though I barely got to know the country. And that is true, however, I know one thing: Hong Kong is pretty crazy, in a good way. Hong Kong, I wish you the best of luck with all that the future may bring.
Mongolia

Such a vast country with endless, non-existant roads. Mongolia is one of a kind. A country with endless landscapes. When you are driving in the flats, it seems there is nothing you are driving on, or heading towards. Divine experiences come from travelling here. Although, don't go here if you don't like meat! It can be harsh on an outside stomach, though it will all be worth it. баярлалаа, Mong...

France is a wonderful country too, and it was next on our list. We have friends in this beautiful place, Melodie and her family. They let us stay on their wine vineyard. A house dated to the 1600s. Incredible memories were made here too. This is a snippet of what little can be captured by a camera.

Now days, you dont have to come to America, love America as a living authentic citizen.... You can use the new machinery of Globalization to stay afield, act out of your provincial interests and pretend what animates America is alive and well in the world! If you wonder where American decay begins, head my words and know there is no replacement for genuine citizenship, genuine love of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA . There are no short cut.
