This is a very rough and grainy set of short movie clips taken around the Wausau area in the 1930s. The movies were originally taken by my late Uncle Roland Manecke and later digitized by one of my cousins. The movies clips provide brief glimpses of the Wausau area in the 1930s. The clips include: 1. A pick-up hockey game on the Wisconsin Rive with Rib Mountain in the background. 2. Water rushi...

This movie was originally shot in 1974 and 1975 in the Wausau area by some 1973 and 1974 Wausau West High School graduates and one of the graduate's uncles. The movie was shot with a Super 8 camera and the soundtrack was recorded on a cheap cassette tape recorder. Both the movie and soundtrack were recently converted to digital format and combined to make the video as presented. Despite the poo...

This is another very rough movie of downtown Wausau, Wisconsin taken sometime in the winter of 1972. The original movie was 8 mm and was later digitized. I have also slowed the film speed to 50% to make it a little easier to see some of the subject (I didn't learn good film technique until much later in life). If you can guess the name of one or more of the women at the back door of the Ben Fra...

This was taken as an 8mm movie. It shows portions of the exterior of the Curtis Company plant in Wausau, Wisconsin before and during demolition. I think the demolition was completed about 1962.

Linda. Do I know you? No, it's not Mark Schedler. It's Jim Weber.

Bruce, this is Linda Sparks, class of '74. I don't know Jim. I rarely get to Wausau, so it was fun to watch the video.

Believe it or not, Herbert and Ervin KOlbe who founded Kolbe Windows & Doors actually owned the Curtis Mill for a brief period of a couple of years from 1960-1962. The brothers were salvaging equipment from the plant for their upstart window and door manufacturer.

does anyone recognize any of the people walking down the street? There is a couple that looks a lot like my brother Gary Cumber and his wife Carol when they first started dating. Is this indeed 1971 and not 1972?

OMG! Such memories! Even caught Funkey Park, behind the YMCA! We hung there a lot as teens and such. The then mayor's son, Tony once changed the sign from Yawkey to Funkey. Such great fun times!
