Deep within the core of our home planet we harvest a power that is fathomless.
They’re telling me that it’s gonna be alright. But man, I just… don’t know. For the life of me I just can’t pull myself around to fully believing what they say. My head is spinning. Among the chaos and uncertainty, there’s some semblance of calm, and I try to cling to it but I can’t hold on for long. I’m fighting because in the end life is beautiful, and I’m worth the fight. I AM worth the fight. Well, thats my interpretation anyway. Beautiful piece. Seems like it would be the perfect way to close out an album.
It’s crazy how there are no lyrics but you still managed to translate exactly how I was feeling at the time when I wrote this. You have a gift. Thanks for this wonderful comment.
@@rileyplaysguitarthe fact I was able to extrapolate this from your beautiful work means you have the gift not me friend. Have yourself a wonderful Christmas. :)
Love it Riley!! Could be an entire song, keep going!!!
Thank you! I’m gonna try 🤘
whats the tuning?
Drop D on an 8 string 🤘
Wouldn't call it thall, also, the bends are out of tune and out of the mode of the ambiend in the background
thanks for the review. merry Christmas homie
@@rileyplaysguitar about the bends, if you want to bend a little bit out of tune (in a microtone), which Calle Thomér sometimes does, make sure that the microtone that you are bending to is in the same mode as the rest of the song, for example, you are in D minor, you can bend a G to a G+ microtone and it will sound slightly out of tune but in the same key/mode as the rest of the song
I appreciate you expanding upon your previous sentiment and providing some practical, constructive criticism with potential solutions. I don’t see that too often. That being said, this particular riff is written with the intent to make you feel a little uncomfortable and not be entirely “in tune”. Whether or not that comes across to the listener is subjective. Again, I appreciate the points you made as they are valid and you’re clearly knowledgeable on the subject matter. I hope you continue to engage with my channel because you’ve provided me with some solid thinking points. Cheers!
Hey, I'm making a video with Nemesis Prime epic walking... Can you make an inspiring heavy dark riff?
shoot me an email with details and we can chat rileymcilwaine@icloud.com
Killer riffs and writing man! The underlying synths sound great. I run Nameless, GGD M&M, and Reaper, I think you just sold me on Serum. How is the ease of use? I have never done any synth/midi/keys stuff. Thanks you got a follower! I'll add on IG also if you have one
Thanks dude! Serum can range from being very simple to use to very complex. I basically just sift through presets (there are so many) until I find something that works. I almost always find something that sounds great that needs minimal post-processing. You can delve deep into crafting a really unique sound with the options it provides but most of that is beyond me lol. I rely on it for leads, ambient layers, guitar layering for some thick sounding guitars, and sub-bass enhancements, so just about everything. I use rent-to-own through Splice so I never felt the sting of paying full price upfront, but it’s been worth the money. If you can find a free trial, I highly recommend doing that. I appreciate the follow! You can follow me on IG “@rileyguitar”, but this channel is where I upload the majority of stuff I’m working on. Thanks again 🤘
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Chapman! I just want to say the guitar I used in this video is by far the best guitar I’ve ever owned. Thanks for making such a nice instrument 🤘

Giving me Belmont vibes. This is sick!
Thank you! I never really got into them until someone made a similar comparison awhile ago. You should check out my song “cooler heads”, it has much more of the Belmont vibes
@ will do
this is so fucking sick. first riff reminds me a lot of Karmanjakah! if you haven't heard them listen to Listening and Writing! sick riffs man
Dude thank you so much. Someone else mentioned them in a comment on this video and I’d never heard of them. Flying was the first track I listened to after that and now I’m absolutely in love. “Listening” is such an incredible song and is basically my dream sound for progressive metal. Your comparison makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
It's only happinesses!
And smiles :)
Karmanjakah vibes, sounds great 🤌
Someone else shared a similar sentiment on this video and I’d never heard of them. Needless to say, they’re one of my favorites now. Thank you!
I just starting learning guitar and recording this year, this is aweseom. Way better than what I'm making over here. Also love the name groove core.
Thanks djentdad! I’ve been playing guitar for over a decade but have only been producing my own stuff for about two years. I still have a lot of progress to make but feel I’ve come a long way in that time. I just subbed to you and checked out some of your stuff, you’ve got a really interesting vibe going on with your music. I’m really curious to see where you’ll be in a year. Just keep writing and trying new things and practicing. With each new “thing” you create, you will get better and better. Thanks again and I hope you stick around the channel for more music!
@@rileyplaysguitar there's so much to be learned!!!
Indeed, so much to discover!
Didn't expect it to be in Major.
Interesting. I usually associate “happy” music with the major scale.
@rileyplaysguitar Oh it's "Happy riff"... I thought it was "Heavy riff".
Ahh yes, that would certainly confuse me as well
Sick as fuck! Meaty, growling, demonic battle hymn. Give me something to burn in effigy! RAWR! Fuck yeah my dude. Amazing riffs, tasty, creative grind-chunk. And that tone, just sweating and frothing unbridled aggression like a war horse with fear and rage in its eyes trampling everything in sight. This mini-masterpiece just made my day. Thank you, kind sir.
If I could frame a comment, this would be the one. You are awesome, thank you.
