Titan Dynamics Cobra RC VTOL
Cobra is a radio controlled vertical takeoff/landing drone capable of long distance mission with challenging takeoff and landing terrains. Completely 3D printed, this aircraft has autonomous capabilities such as auto takeoff/landing, waypoint missions, and auto return to home.
This specific build was modified to use two front tilting motors in lieu of 4 lift + 1 pusher motor configuration. Power system also deviated from factory recommendation in favor of higer voltage setup.

The Viper is a 1.6m Tri-motor VTOL printed by a 3D printer.     Wouldn't the weight of the joint on the two forward motors be too great a weight penalty to be worth it? Plus you then need to power 2 motors for forward flight, and they can't be optimised for both hovering and forward flight.

      Sorry I don't have it anymore. It's just adding some negative rectangles to the stock hatch in slicer software.

      default Bambu parameter for Polylite ABS, single wall 3% infill.

      Thanks! I have had great success playing around with those same settings but using ASA instead. Seems a bit heavy, but very durable.

      @@markroller6323 We are able to achieve similar weights as LW-PLA with minimal infill. Trick is finding that right balance between durability and weight.

    What is the advantage of eliminating the pusher motor, in terms of flight autonomy? Will you use Inav 7 in future?

      the cost, complexity, and weight of an additional motor + ESC. But for long distance mission the 5+1 configuration is favorable as the single pusher motor can sip very little current. Ardupilot is much more configurable and reliable for VTOL application as it's matured over last decade.

      Getting around 10 minutes with 6s-5000 lipo. But it's designed to take 6s4p 21700 Li-Ion packs for much longer flight.

    Amazing build! What is your takeoff weight? Do you think it's a good platform for mapping with a 500-gram payload (mapping camera) and at least 1 hour of flight time? Is there free space inside the fuselage for a mapping camera and a bigger battery? Thanks!

      My takeoff weight with 6s-5000 battery was about 3700g. Designer listed 6KG max takeoff weight so your camera should be no problem. Plenty of space in the fuselage as well. The plane was intended to have 4 lift and 1 pusher motors, running on 2 separate battery packs. Example setup would be small Lipo for liftoff/landing, and 21000mah Li-ion for hours of forward flight. Only problem with this airframe is the lack of landing gear, so you will need to build a landing gear to clear the underbelly camera. They also designed the "Viper" which has 3 motors with camera bay and landing gear, which might be better suited for your need. ua-cam.com/video/32AOw3QLhmQ/v-deo.htmlsi=YBN9MgtHZuraX71d

      This video was untuned maiden flight. Since then I've enabled notch filter and ran autotune to make it more locked in. Also added feed forward and did some manual tuning to eliminate the yaw wag.

    Beautiful - excellent work! Just about to assemble all the printed parts for the Cobra (LWPLA) and considering using tilt rotors in front too. Got any tips or close up photos of your setup? Is the tilt mechanism from one of the other Titan VTOLs or something you designed your self?

      Thanks! The tilt is from Titan Viper with the boom mount enlarged to fit Cobra's booms. It basically uses a pair of robotic arm servos like these: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CMBMWZW

    Was the entire model printed in ABS (text comment at 25 second point of the video) ? The build manual suggests light weight PLA for everything except the motor mounts, and I find that makes for a rather fragile model. If the whole thing can be printed in ABS (or maybe PETG) then although heavier it would probably be a lot stronger.

      Yes whole plane printed with Polylite ABS, single wall 4% infill. Slightly heavier but much more durable. Most importantly it can sit under the sun without deforming.

    Also wondering if you might have some tips on setting up vtol on a spectrum 7 transmitter Just wondering because I seem to do okay with regular aircraft but vtol I'm not sure how to select the switch and the control surface

      The VTOL function is controlled with an onboard flight controller running Ardupilot. Radio transmittedrsimply sends a signal on channel 6 to tell it to switch between hover and forward flight modes.
