Dry Fly Fishing at a Spectacular Lake, Oregon, Summer 2024
Don't fish stillwater much these days, but I had been looking forward to this for a while and finally made it happen. Beautiful lake. I lost the trail getting there, however, and ended up wandering around for a good while before managing to find my way to the water. Caught a couple of fish and brought them home for dinner. At the end of the day, I found a spot overlooking the lake and ate a bag of potato chips that tasted extra good after a ton of hiking.

Fly Fishing in Taiwan for Taiwan Mahseer, Summer 2024
Переглядів 36614 днів тому
Unusual but fortunate to return to Taiwan so soon after the last trip and met up with my friend again to go fish. We spent a few hours on this river fishing dries for Taiwan Mahseer. I had never been to this area. It was very beautiful. Caught a few but missed the big ones. I'll get them next time. Taiwan, Summer 2024

I woke up an hour late. There was a guy at the spot I wanted to fish. Then there was a guy at the next spot. I went to my third option and within 10 min caught this nice rainbow. It's good to have plans, but things don't need to go according to plan for great things to happen. Finally had the chance to explore some water that had been on my radar for a long time. Beautiful stretch of the river. Tightline nymphed with my usual 5 wt trout rod. Decided to try a semiautomatic reel after watching some of Devin Olsen's videos. Fished through a lot of water that day, but only caught fish out of the stretch shown here. Barely got this fish out of the submerged tree. Was happy to get some underwater shots of both a salmonfly and a nice trout (cutbow I think). The view of the salmonfly will provide inspiration when tying new flies for this hatch. The fish just sat next to me after the release and I stuck my GoPro in the water. Big Cutthroat, Dry Fly Fishing, Salmonfly Hatch, Oregon, 2024
Переглядів 2522 місяці тому
The best thing about the salmonfly hatch is the good chance of catching some big trout on big dry flies that are easy to see. Here's a big cutthroat, rising not that far from me, ~15-20' away, for my fly. The fly line got wrapped around my reel when the fish ran downstream right after the hookset. Luckily it stopped just in time and just long enough for me to untangle the mess. Oregon, Spring 2...

Usually a lot of little fish will attempt to eat the big dry flies during this hatch, but many of them can only bite a portion of the fly and missing the fish on the hookset on one of these is not that unusual in my experience, and sometimes desired. This one stood out with the consecutive rises. I presume from the same fish? But there's no way to know for sure. Oregon, Spring 2024 Rod: Orvis H...

This fish hit at the very end of the drift. I remember wanting to pick up and cast back upstream but something convinced me to extend the drift just a bit more further downstream. This was definitely one of the highlights of the season for me. New spot. Had seen a few small rising trout more toward the middle of the river in this area while I was further downstream and decided to give it a go. While trying to get the small trout I had seen to rise, just happened to chance upon this big rising trout right under my feet, even clearly seeing it eat an actual salmonfly. Work...

Fly Fishing in Taiwan for Black Carp, Spring, 2024

This was a BIG fish, ~42" long. Was fortunate to have the chance to spend another day fishing with my friend in a river in northern Taiwan. Quite a drastic change from my previous trip about a week prior. From mountain stream with big rocks and clear water to urban river with sandy bottom and murky water. There were a lot of big fish here, though, and I managed to get this one out of there. 0:0...

I have been in Taiwan for a year and a half and brought all my gear with me but have yet to find out where to go or what fish Taiwan has to fly fish. Would love to learn more about fly fishing Taiwan
I don't live there and can't say I have much experience fly fishing in Taiwan, but the few times I've fly fished there now have been great! Perhaps try searching Facebook and UA-cam for fly fishing content in Taiwan. There's a fly fishing community there for sure. Hopefully you can find someone in Taiwan to go fish with. Good luck!
You don't have to use so much force to set a hook.🤗

Thanks! Fished the McKenzie once. Would love to go back.
@thebluewoollybugger ever in the area. Send me a message through here. I've got a drift boat, I'll put you back on the Mckenzie. Be blessed.

Beautiful fish!!!

Holy smokes! what river are you catching cutthroats like that that aren't sea runs?! I'm guessing southern oregon somewhere? Nice fish!

Great fish and a great take. Well done! And thanks for posting..
Yup, this one was quite memorable!
Great Rainbow, tough spot to land a big fish.
@@flyfishingwithphil7676 Thanks! Yah it was exciting navigating the wading, current, and structure to get that fish to the net.

That would be a trophy trout in my book, if that is the river I think it is, I hope to fish the salmon fly hatch there next year instead of the typical Deschutes Salmon fly Hatch Trip. Is there much walk and wade water or do you need to drift it?
Yah that was a big fish for me for sure! There's some walk and wade access at all the parks along the river, but a driftboat will definitively allow you to fish much more water. Both are fun.
Awesome vid; thanks for this !
@@dsddavesmith Thanks and you're welcome!

Coastal cutthroat
I can see some cutthroat features, just don't see the red slashes under the jaw at 1:53. Either way, we had fun ending the day with this fish!

我們這邊說 the tug is the drug!
Great fishing how do you like the blackout rod I have it too and love it 9’5 5 wt and love it best rod
Oh the rod is great. Feels light and crisp.
The salmonfly hatch is legendary. I have eaten a few emergers. Delish btw. I fished the northwest extensively but never Oregon.
I've not eaten a salmonfly. I may need them to be battered and fried. If the opportunity arises you should come fish in Oregon and maybe compare how the salmonflies here taste??
Nice!
Yeah!
very interesting; thanks!
That hook was well set! Great fish!!!
I just reacted to the tug, but definitely needed a solid hook set to land that fish! Thanks!
Nice catch!
Yes it was!
Awesome video man. I love fly fishing

How are you dear? I have analyzed your UA-cam channel. your channel is very good and your video is excellent. every UA-camr shows a few unique things in their videos. only a few UA-cam channels get lots of views. most UA-cam channels publish unique and valuable videos but they don't get lots of views. many UA-camrs want to income and other UA-camrs want to show the audience their creativity. if the video doesn't get many views their dream is not fulfilled. if the video cannot get views then cannot get likes, shares, and subscribers. UA-cam said their users to do follow a few rules. that the users maintain these rules must be their channel will glow. basically, in your channel and video, I find some problems. what is because of this problem and how to solve this problem I want to discuss with you about this. I have a lot of experience in doing work in this matter over a long time. thank you very much for reading my message.
Great footage; thanks for posting.
Thanks!
Nice job all around. Always great to have a netter right there to help. Really helps health of the fish. Steelhead are stunning but this chinook (king) was really quite beautiful. Amazing how something that stunning out of the water can be so invisible in the river. 👍
Yah, the fish are in there, most of the time we just don't see them til we catch them!
Take the glove off when handling fish
Appreciate the feedback.
Sweet looking water!
Yes it is.
awesome video!
It's usually not a good idea to handle trout with gloves on.
Appreciate the feedback.
is this the Mckenzie?
Dude! Great video!! Couple questions from a new(er) guy: Can you talk a bit about how you're rigged up? Do you have a dry and a nymph hanging off the back?! Where in Oregon?! Coastal or central or Eastern?! Have a great weekend!!
Sure, 5 wt rod, weight forward fly line, tapered leader to 5X tippet (~9'), indicator on the leader, and a nymph.
What kind of line are you running on your center pin reel ?
