Swimming with and for IISA TeamGB
An Insight to my time at the Ice Swimming World Champs 2023 and
the follow up interview with the local BBC News North East & Cumbria.
HONOURED, PROUD and in total awe of my fellow TeamGB swimmers and so thankful for the opportunity.
Everyone swam so well.
Even more thankful to have my jenny help and support me but also see me swim at the worlds.... xxx
Special moments that I will always remember
totally couldn't got this far without the help of wellness Therapeutics
TeamGB didn't win BUT we had the highest medal count by a long way in the age groups, so much potential

We didn't expect the 2*c temps as most thought it was going to be around 5 or 6 degrees. The whole IISA GBTeam were amazing and the organisers and Officials did a cracking job at running this event with so much consideration (not easy). I was down for the 1k and I was 5th overall with 19min. I was ment to do the 500m after but the officials offered me 250m instead which I managed to feck up by ...

My mum finally joins me in an outdoor swim to help her with a little few issues she has been experiencing. My mum actually cant swim but I aim to fix this for her. My mum is the strongest & the most amazing person ever, as when I was born she went through 16 years of postnatal psychosis and more. And at present she has a few things that she gets pain from and discomfort like fibromyalgia. For y...

This is part 1 of my Ice Holes & Ice Channels. Music by Dauwd - Theory Of Colours. Winter swimming is one of my biggest passions and im lucky enough to have it as my business H2oTrails. This is where I coach a very particular cold water immersion programme. Our lake sits up 240m and is shallow which makes it a beast for them low temps. We tend to get under 5*c before any other accessible lake i...

    How do you find 14' sup? We have 12'8 go further and wondering if its good idea to by 14' aor stick to another 12'8 . We would like to take out kids on broad 9 and 7 year old, on 12'8 with both of them its a very slow, but I feel quite stable. Wondering how it would be on 14' as its a bit narrower? Thanks if you could give some advice.

      @fenwickridley 2 роки тому

      Hey... where abouts are you based as you could just come and try on my lake as I have most the board sizes but also a tandum 16ft, personally the 12'8 is the one you might be best going for then the 14 if its McConks you want to stick with but really you might want to try my RED 16ft tandum as that will take you all no bother

    A few swimming groups mentioning the noise impact breaking the ice with an axe has on fish/wildlife. Can you talk about that?

    • @fenwickridley
      @fenwickridley 3 роки тому

      It's a good question, but when the ice is about there is always alot of noise for the little swimmers. But In the winter cold temps alot of fish dive deep anyway which reduces the effect from vibration and sound. The fish enter a type of homeostasis and slow down. I'm on a fishing lake and have not heard from ice fishers that it changes their normal behaviour. Also note that in time the fish can acclimatise to the movements and sounds just like a busy lake with power boats. Mind its Different if it was a small pond in your back garden full of big gold fish and you were cracking it few times a day or even daily as the little guys wouldn't be well. Also the ice holes I have been creating have been getting used by the otters to fish 🐟
