My life in the sky
Smoke Thermals in a Hang Glider
Got to just under 1000ft over Wadsworth, TX diving for the smoke rising in the air. It paid off. It put me out of position for the task at hand but got me to the salt water.

Late season attempt at making it around Austin Class C. I never touched airspace but naturally, the clouds were better there...

Guads Final 60

Final 60 seconds of flying the Guads. I love heading for top landing here. Once you leave the ridge, options change. The only thing certain is that there will be an arrival in a very remote section of the Lincoln National Forest
Fall 50 Miler

A few days before Halloween, the Texas weather lined up. 50 mile flight to declared goal and Happy Hour. Flight from Smithville, TX to Georgetown, TX. Thanks to www.flytexas.com for the tow and www.flyingmanbeer.com for retrieve help.
Pretty good lift in that smoke thermal! Hope to see you next weekend for Columbus Day fun fly at dry Canyon!
It's very cool!!
I should UA-cam more. I feel like we’re getting the band back together.
Very cool shot man! Great flight as well
You can’t even make out a hawk unless it’s on a TV. There were +100 in that group.
The camera just doesn't do it justice.

I used to help my dad (James Mattocks) with set up and tear down back in the late 70's and early 80's. I remember him and his buddy Glen Kitchens, myself, and others working on the very first launch ramp on Packsaddle Mountain. He used to fly with another well known guy named Paul Masson I'm sure I screwed up the spelling of the names but I'm doing in by how the names sounded in my head. Long time ago. They also used to fly Enchanted Rock back when it was a privately owned park. Good times! Safe flying my friends..
I always like hearing stories about Pack from the early days. Unfortunately the long time Texas practice of neighboring is all but gone. Locals, like the current Packsaddle owners, have adopted the practices of the city "weekend ranchers" and put locks and high fence around everything. Packsaddle has been closed since 2011.
@@treeamigo It's sad indeed. I remember the golden rule of taking very good care of that property and always communicating from the owners. Back then they enjoyed the many kites that flew every weekend that was possible
@@ericscott1895 Sadly the generation that inherited it had always seen the gliders there and did not think it was in anyway a novel activity. The moment the older generation gave up the ghost, they hit us with a high price to fly there which really meant no thank you.
@@treeamigoHi my Grandparents Used to own a house across the water from packsaddle. I remember seeing paramotors and gliders and have always been fascinated with the area as well as aviation. I have been researching the area looking for public trails. Do you know who the current owners are?
Tow launch? Marfa and the Davis mountains are sort of close to El Paso, been thinking about prospecting for PG launches there.
👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Puffies to die for! What a beautiful aircraft. The Wright brothers would be proud. And LZs everywhere!
very spicy!!!
Man, they were close! Cool that they like cloudbase too.
He was following you to find where the best lift was.
Pilot to Central Command, I’ve got an eagle on my six and I can’t shake him - I bequeath all my HG gear to Bill Cummings.
I'm going to miss flying with RGSA this weekend!!!
Eagle-1 to intruder hang glider, you are in a restricted thermal-space. Leave immediately or face consequences!
I love the way you categorize your vids as Comedy! Beautiful flight. Hey please make it over to the RGSA Dry Canyon Columbus day fly - in!
I wish I could make it this year but am officially out. Hopefully see you at the Guads!
@@treeamigo Oh No! But we will miss you. Regarding the Guads, I love that place. Every Friday I check the forecast for Saturday, which is the day I could fly. It has not worked for over a year....
Stuuuuud. Show me the money
Hey brother. Ive seen so many ridges and hills in which you can slope soar in Texas. Why people keep on doing winch launch over there? Maybe they dont want to drive that long and off road their car? Hit me up on instagram please felipe_tavaresphoto
Is it allowed to land a paraglider on this airport landing zone? Do you need to let them know in advance and what's the protocol in general? Thanks!
Yes! You can pulley tow at that airport. Sam Kellner is the contact guy. txhitime@yahoo.com
thats halarious
We are bummed we couldn't make it, rats drat darn it! But Skydog has promised to guide us soon.
Landing on top is no small feat. GOOD JOB!
I see Jeff Shapiro's old harness is still treating you well. Nice save at the very end there Nate!
Great video! I appreciate the time you put into it and really showing us your POV/thought process.
did he hit sink or have an engine out? did you hit the release or weaklink break on you?
Vicious sink! I chickened out and tried to get away from it as his wing clearly went negative. The aluminum carabiner broke. Thanks for the walk down memory lane and reminder how bad it is to 3 point tow a topless.
Here, a sketch take off to go with that landing. The guads are buttery smooth, but it was honking! ua-cam.com/video/v-I7iNSSL3Y/v-deo.html
That was sketch! I was surprised to not end up in a pile of aluminum.
That landing looked a little sketchy!!! NICE!!!
Looks like a LOT of fun!!! You going this year?
Oh heck yes. It comes at a time of the year when I'm gagging for open spaces, a road trip and killer sunsets. In addition to some ridge action. I'm planning on it unless the wx look to be frozen out. From Austin, it is only about 7.5hrs.
Beautiful! We too have been frustrated with Dead GoPro, but now with 64GB card and external battery almost 6 hours is possible.
My human wants to fly this site, not terribly far from El Paso. He has stood at launch and dreamed... hopefully this winter.
Amazing! My human is fascinated by HG, even though he is limited to PG only.
My human loves that the category is "comedy" !!! Who is the pilot? Man, he got super high!
Way to go Nate!!!
Thanks for not rolling me down the hill Nate. How'd you like those goat heads in the LZ?
Freaking awesome! No invite?!
Thanks Nate, great Vid……. Miss our Packsaddle Mtn home . You had a few Locals to fly with :-)
NICE, that looked like so much fun!
Nothing like launching the Guads! Makes me want to fly some ridge lift again. Nice flying man!
Great!
No kidding. Nate always out flies the locals!
Holy Crap! I bet that was cool.
Looks like fun!
Speaking of once and a while, you thinking of going XC this year? Bragging about hanging over the airfield for an hour without going XC is like bragging about kissing your sister. Btw, she's not bad. Shaking a wee bit. Remember what a 4hr flight is like? Or being under a big ugly like that a 1000fpm going into a 18mph head wind? Enough BS, let's go fly!!
OK OK we see. You made it to cloud base. Fricken rookie. Even a blind dog gets a bone every once in a while. By the way...at cloud base you look like you are shaking worse than a dog trying to sh*t a peach seed. Just sayin... relax home team. You might actually make it back and complete the triangle
+mirageg4 ROTFLOL!
+Vicarious Icarus Bad thing is he asked me to go with him, and I wussed out and took "the short drive and boat towing" instead. So needless to say... he had about three hrs more airtime than me that day!
+mirageg4 so does this mean the bromance is still on? Lol! Let's go fly this week!
+Treeamigo Would you two please get a room!
Jeff Hunt is my hero.
LOL SCORE! Nice landing
It was fun! Thanks for flying with me!
Nice in flight footage. Looked like a fun day! humph.....
Nice view from your office bro
