The top speed is actually 32km/h or 25mph for the NA class locomotives. Trains might travel faster when going downhill.

We took the train from Anchorage to Whittier. We found the HAL pre cruise hotel in Anchorage to be below average. We did this cruise in Sept 2024 from Whittier to Vancouver. Loved the cruise train from Anchorage to Whittier. We did not care for the HAL pre cruise hotel in Anchorage. First time on Nieuw Amsterdam and enjoyed it. Took our daughter and husband with us. We each had an adjoining Neptune suites and we enjoy the benefits especially breakfast in the Pinnacle Grill. A friend in Chicago grew up eating Okonomiyaki and opened a small restaurant in 2006. She featured her version of the dish on her menu. I went in to try it when she first opened, loved it and began to go in a few times a week as a volunteer to do prep work to help get the business off the ground. !8 years later I am living in Shanghai and make Okonomiyaki on a regular basis for my Chinese step daughters and Chinese wife.

Quite obvious you must have used footage from a different flight: you say you were on a 787 aircraft for your flight to San Francisco….but clearly you boarded a 777 aircraft….the few footage from a 787 aircraft you used were from some sort of archive and not from your flight. Your disappointment at the Skycouch lays in your description of it, when you refer to it as a “bed”: the Skycouch is not a bed and not a lay flat product. Air NZ has a lay flat product and that is the Busniess Premiere seat. The Skycouch is, as the word suggests, a couch, not a bed. When a passenger books the Skycouch, the website provides all the information one needs to make an informed decision, including the dimensions of the Skycouch

    • @MaximosTravels

Hi and thanks for your comment. As per the description in the video the first flight from Melbourne to Auckland was on board a 777-300W while the 2nd flight to San Fransisco was on a 787-9 Dreamliner. The Sky Couch certainly wasn’t business class but a decent and affordable alternative to premium economy. Maximo

Hi @Liampaul95 - I would agree with you on short haul flights but most flights out of Australia to anywhere except New Zealand are 8-15 hours and all passengers need to be fed during long haul flights. Applies to passengers with food allergies such as myself and my partner Jo being vegetarian. How airlines deal with dietary requirements is now one of the criteria we use to select flights and airlines wherever possible. Maximo

Hi Mark. Which rockslide? There have been a series of rockslides in the port of Skagway that forced the closure of part of the port and required the use of tender boats when we docked there in June. There were a couple of rockslides a couple of weeks after we did the White Pass railway tour in July that blocked both the White Pass Railway as well as the Klondike Highway. It impacted one cruise ship but I understand that all the passengers got back on board after a 12 hr delay. Maximo.

Maximo. Thanks for the review on the Morris hotel. We are retirees and no longer have your philosophy of 'you only live once' when spending on travel. I always scour the web for bargains and refuse to be ripped off. We have travelled extensively in Europe and SE Asia. Basically, I've discovered you don't have to pay top dollar anywhere ... ever. As for the Morris Hotel ... well they saw you coming !! Maybe try the Great Southern Hotel in Haymarket next time in Sydney. There is a great pub next door serving gigantic meals for less than $25 PP. The Great Southern offers basic continental breaky for $9 pp or full English breakfast for $15 pp. Light rail stop is100 metres across the road and takes you all the way to Circular Quay on George St. All the best. PS we booked a cruise for Feb 2026 to Hobart, five nights and docked in Hobart for 2 nights. Apart from incidental trips >> no food costs as the cruise costs nothing to eat on board. Approx $650 pp for 5 nights (return from Sydney) >> inside cabin. Woo Hoo.

ks for your comment Miles Long. My perspective changed a couple of years ago when my Cousin that I was quite close to died suddenly at 60 - she was my age. We immediately booked our Canada and USA trip and i retired earlier this year at age 61. My motto now is travel while you still can - money/health/mobility etc.... I retired since that video was released. That means my travels are a little less discerning and a bit more frugal. The average price for accomodation for an upcoming trip I'll be releasing videos on UA-cam in a few weeks was just over $100 AUD per night. It might be a while until I'm in Sydney again. Enjoy your cruise. I'l also be overseas again in Jan-Feb next year! Maximo.

Hey Maximo, I really like some of your video's - particularly the Tasmanian ones. But regretfully you get very few views. So here is my two bobs worth as to the probable reason/s. 1. Try to put a smile on your dial. When you stand front on, you seems morose, don't smile and give the impression of a disinterest. If you are uncomfortable, just introduce the video and minimise your appearance (or just use a profile view). Or finish the video with you and wifey with smiles at the end. 2. Ad lib your talking instead of reading precisely off an idiot sheet. Try not to pronounce every word perfectly. It comes across fake and annoying. Just jot down key points and ad lib from there. 3. A lot of your videos have the audio cocked up. You did say it was the software. Maybe you can revisit them and correct the audio (shouldn't be that hard). 4. Smile fully, and at least pretend you are having a good time. Cheers & best wishes.

Thanks for your comment Miles Long. I'll take your suggestion re smiling on board. My narrative is never ever scripted - it's just me talking normally. I happen to be very left brained, analytical, logical, detail and fact-oriented - something that served me well working in the IT industry for over 40 years. Yep - an IT Geek. I'm also very introverted - I once did a psychometric test that said that i was at the 97% percentile in terms of introversion. Jo always says that I need to smile more and be more engaging...... It's hard for a Leopard to change his spots......😀 Maximo

@@MaximosTravels haaha too much contact with 1's and 0's. 'for I=1 to 10' PRINT smile .... cheers PS I'd say forget the introvert thing, if you are going to produce YT video's you need to take your wife's advice...... maybe no cartwheels / handstands but more animations.

I can’t believe you completely missed both Mendenhall Glacier and whale watching in Juneau - the two “can’t miss” things in Juneau, and once in a lifetime experiences. You’re treating this like a Caribbean cruise, booking no excursions and just walking around town because everything’s the same), which is a fatal mistake for first time cruisers. I understand your wife wasn’t feeling well, but it would have taken less energy to take a shuttle or taxi to the Glacier than it did to walk around town. Sad you flew all that way and missed everything that makes Alaska so special.

Hi Mark, thanks for your comment. You can't help getting sick whilst travelling and we were both recovering from a bout of COVID at the time. We had planned to visit the Mendenhall Glacier but unfortunately missed out. Looking at other UA-cam videos before out trip, the glacier has retreated a fair bit and you can't get that close to it. The waterfall in the area is impressive however. My partner Jo does not do well on smaller boats so whale watching was off the agenda. Personally don't think it's a problem as our cruise spent two days up close to glaciers in College Fjord and Glacier Bay. We had also visited Columbia Icefield and actually stood on a glacier there. As far as waterfalls go we saw so many in our travels through Banff and Jasper National parks earlier in the trip. I still did manage to ride the Tramway and get up to see spectacular views from Mt Roberts. Perhaps unlike other cruise travellers, the cruise we were on was not our whole trip but rather one week out of a 4 1/2 week trip to Canada, Alaska and Hawaii. Look out for the Hawaii videos coming out soon. You can't do it all - in terms of money, time and energy and more importantly health. After all my channel is geared towards the 'Mature and Discerning' not a triathlete in their 20's! Maximo

@@samtrak1204the Shinkansen from Kanazawa does not do all the way to Kyoto yet. You need to change at Tsuruga Station and get on the Thunderbird Express there - or do what we did and stay on the Thunderbird the whole way to avoid the hassle of a change of train to save only a few minutes. Do I have to book 3 one-way tickets for the round trip? Does the Bird have green class? What is the best website to book these trains? Thanks for your help!
