Take a stroll down the aisles of your typical 1950's and 1960's American grocery store. Grocery stores of that time period were a lot smaller and carried a lot less variety of products compared with today but inventions like shopping carts and plastic wrap would change the grocery shopping landscape forever. #1950s #1960s #americana Copyright Disclaimer under section 107 of the Copyright Act 19...
Look how well dressed they are!
And food was so much healthier then. Go RFK!!!
lousy music choices.
I remember those
Wow I remember walking home from school and stopping at the gas station to get a cold pop (soda) from the big cooler. There were also snacks. This was about 1961.
Good old days ❤
Nothing wrapped in plastic, a few things in cellophane. Also before the Western World was overrun with delusional liars, psychos and freaks.
I was born in 1950. I remember the cars . It’s was safe everyone had work. I’m from California. Outside San Francisco about 45 minutes. Miss those times.
Just found you. Nice work. You have a new fan. Love the music. Who playing at 3:00 minutes in the post.loved it. Who playing. Thanks
I had completely forgot about TIGER!. I swear to god we had that logo on our gas stations in late 90's/early 2000's.
Back when 90% of the food was actually real and wasn’t ultra processed garbage
Imagine the date nights there.
It's so nice the prices never change just like televisions 🤗
We just filled up the ol’ horseless carriage a few days ago for a trip. We’ll probably have to fill it up again next week.
Back in the '70s I remember as a child getting lost in a store that couldn't have been more than 20,000 ft. Now when I go into a super Walmart I wonder what in the heck happens in the children's mind if they should happen to get lost
Many memories for me on the decades past in the Americana of the Drive-Ins. Where I was born and raised - Indianapolis several come to mind: Shadeland...Twin Aire...National U.S. 40...Pendleton...Westlake...and one or two more that I can't remember the names without looking up somewhere the list of all of them I visited. Some of those places (like the Shadeland on Indiana S.R. 100 (aka as Shadeland Ave. when driving in the city limits ofp Indianapolis), got to see "first run features" that were famously known over the decades like: "El Cid"... "Exodus"... "Mary Poppins" ... "King of Kings",to name a few. At other drive-ins, I recall: "Kid Gallahan" starring Gig Young and Elvis Presley. Then there was one night at one of those drive-ins: Clint Eastwood famous "Spaghetti Westerns" of "For a Few Dollars More" & "Fistful of Dollars" along with Eastwood's "Hang 'Em High" (1968). And then on another note: "The Outlaw Josey Wales". So...yes, I enjoyed those drive-ins and the "fast food" meals and popcorn and candy. Would I go again to another drive-ins? Only if the picture was a popular classic of real long ago or, a wholesome family picture.
I miss real AMERICA!
Back when the USA WAS great! ! !
Ding ding.😂
This used to be a great country. Then the TV set took over, people stopped watching politicians, the federal govt became a juggernaut and EVERYTHING went to shit. Now it’s all hopeless, fuck it.
I suppose everybody noticed that all these theatres actually spell the word theatre correctly on their sign boards . Why oh why and when did the spelling change to theater ?? Sad or what !
I love these videos ❤
My dad was stationed on an Naval Air Base from the 50s into the 70s. In the 1960s he did part-time work at a service station. He worked for a guy named Jim Herzer. He owned the service station. The station was on the west side of main street. In those days Lemoore was a small town. And I still live there. I think, the station was a Gulf 76 station. My dad worked at another station in main street, a Chevron station. My brother used to work there too. But in the 80s? Or, maybe early 90s it became a Chevron mini-mart. The Gulf station has now been long torn down. And I guess now, Lemoore's twice as big now.
Subbed. This is my kinda channel!! ❤️ 💙
When I was 8 years old until I was 12 we went to a older Grocery store called P&W. I had a lot of my warm childhood from the older smaller store. When I turned 12 they Bulldozed a Golf Course and built a mall and inside the parking lot next to the Road they Built a Grossery Store. Lucky Market. The Rest of my childhood my parents did their Grocery Shopping at Lucky Market. Now I'm a lonely old man and my parents are Dead. All I have is one sister and one Brother and then the immediate family is dead.
Wrong music!
I was born in the year of the new millennium. Im so grateful there's old pictures and footage like this that can allow future generations to experience our past first hand. I always feel nostalgic seeing old photos of the mid-century despite never actually living it myself.
As an European I never understood why Americans carried their groceries in tearable paper backs against the chest and not in proper bags with grips (handles?).
what happened to having enough cashiers?
I like all this and the cool music.🤓
😂✌️❤️🌻🇫🇴🐾🤫
I wish places like this still existed. Where I live we have a car wash right next to a gas station but thats about as good as it gets around here.
The claim that by 1960 gas was 31 cents is not completely right. My dad had a Mobil Oil service station from 1958 to 1963 and I work with him and was 9 years old to 13.This is in Sacramento Ca and the highest we ever charge was 27 Cents for Premium. The price of gasoline didn't rise more than 2 or 5 cents in a gas war till the early 70s with the oil embargo. There were gas lines and you could only get gas on days that matched you last number on your license plate was odd or even. the price jumped to 38 cent per. Notice the price for gas in the picture with a 1963 Pontiac @1:02. Back then we also a bay with a lift and did repairs. I mounted many new tires and did oil and filter changes. We did tune ups replacing spark plugs, points ,condenser, rotor and distributor cap. We set the timing. We also did brake jobs and even replace a few clutch's. When you got oil and lube job we also washed al the windows inside and out. We checked air in all the tires including the spare. We vacuumed out the car and many cars back then had rubber floor mats. We had a spray that made the mats look new and shiny and we sprayed the tires too. Most of our customers were more like close friends. On Sunday my dad sent me to the donut shop a to get a few dozen donuts for customers. It was a great time in my life.
I remember the price stickers on the items s , If if it went on sale, they would charge you full price if you didn't tell them 😮
great times
I remember those days well. Oil low? They add a quart. Wipers bad? They got replaced. Of course, for extra cost, not free. No such thing as a 24/7 station then. Today, there are so many cars on the road and stations are almost always busy. I don’t think people have the patience to wait for full service, even if affordable and offered.
I'm reading the usual erroneous claims posted here about how clean and well-dressed everyone was in the supposed better times of the past. Please be aware that the photos used in this video are NOT of people who just happened to be in a store when a photographer was there; they are models who were carefully posed, wearing fashionable clothes and with professional makeup and hairstyles. They are not actual everyday shoppers.
Keep in mind there WERE large supermarkets during this period in addition to the smaller neighborhood ones, the latter of which could be independent or part of a chain.
My mom misses the days where $45 could feed mom, dad, grandpa and 4 kids for dam near a month
Nice to see all the different oil companies although did not see Fina
I remember many times crawling out over the tailgate of the station wagon, going into the building and getting myself a Fresca from those lift lid Coke coolers, wander around the shop, look at all the tools, the smell of a oil slicked , concrete floors. Showing my Fresca to the gas atttendant whilst I climbed back into the back, rear facing seat, Then my dad would also pay for that when he paid for the gas.
Where did you find your back ground music? Please take it back where you dug it up and berry it. It’s sue not fifties.
I pray to god every day I can wake up during this time.
Weird way to say you like fascism.
@@NFLD_RPAS I do
We going back to them prices SOONER THAN WE EXPECT
The black man didn't run through these towns
I remember 0.25 cent Gasoline, in Santa Barbara CA of all places, a city w/ Lots of fancy cars and people who can afford them. I always felt good buying the more expensive 0.32 cent per gallon Texaco or Chevron brand for my motorcycle because It ran better. 110+ Octane, "racing fuel", was still available everywhere you went. The more "homogenized" society becomes, the fewer freedoms we have.
So, how the hell did gas prices go from .29-.30 cents/gal to over $4.00/gal since then? Two words...G-O-V-E-R-N-M-E-N-T T-A-X-E-S. And along with them came big government created inflation resulting in ever increasing prices for EVERYTHING, especially starting with "democrat", Lyndon Baines Johnson who created massive big gov't programs, like "The Great War On Poverty", leading to a cradle to grave handout mentality and generations of parasites.
I love these videos looking back on the way things were. So fun to see the prices! And everyone dressed so nicely and were so slim. Sure do miss those times..............
Foods are more processed now than back then. You ate the food and your body got the nutrients it needed. Now you need to eat more as less nutrients and more fats and sugars are in our food hence fat people everywhere.
Intact families, before LBJ destroyed that concept.
When people took pride in their job . Plus everything was clean. Not now. Nothing is done with pride. Just give me my check and don’t make me work for it.
