I have fished the Manawatu and Hawkes Bay rivers a lot and was wondering how they have recovered from the cyclone?. Was this river in that region? I would love to plan a trip next season. Used to fish those lakes around 30 - 35 years ago. From memory the lakes were stocked with a different strain of fish back then. Loch Leven maybe? Prettier and more colourful than our standard brownie. Also very tasty cooked over a fire on the lake shore. Never any size to the fish in those lakes, but prolific risers and a nice easy outing if the main river is a bit high or you are short of time.

i fished this lake in the 80s and 90s fantastic in a southerly the trout were tarawera r strain and my dad landed a 10 pounder and played another for 30 min before loosing it
