My Goodness, Elaine. Where have you been hiding this absolute gem? The composition of the instruments and the way they gradually build. The magnificent lyrics and the story they tell. The true brilliance of the harmonies. The 'tunnel' effect of that stunning lead vocal. I just love the way in the chorus, with the word 'trying', the last note goes down, and with the following line with 'dying', the last note goes to a harmonic. All were completed by a beautifully balanced studio mix. It's an absolute masterpiece. And I haven't even mentioned how incredible the video is.

I have a mint condition single of this which I bought at the time; saw Chris, Trevor and the band play a couple of times and yes they were truly phenomenal! Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the single was released in 1980…. still gives me chills hearing it now, almost 45 years later

This is Chris Shakespeare , probably the best MALE soul singer in the uk , you can't forget people like Maggie Bell . He was a good friend of Ben E KING ,they did shows together in the late 60's . His bands were the GLOBE SHOW , the CHRIS SHAKESPEARE BAND , RUSHWOOD , the SCRATCH BAND , CHECKPOINT ( my favourite ), BIG BROTHER ,.& of course solo as CHRIS SHAKESPEARE . His friend Trevor Cummins wrote songs for him and then occasionally they would write songs together . He will be sadly missed by us all but his music lives on . Elaine & Trevor .
