He thinks it’s all a load of cult nonsense, but he does miss how happy it used to make him and sometimes wishes he could be a part of it again.
The actor couldn’t even keep them on his shoulder… hardly convincing
Is he playing a pibroch?
😢
I cried too along. It was such a powerful scene!!
This is going to be Prince Harry one day!
I doubt it. Prince Harry didn't sympathize with Nazis. Prince Harry protected his wife from the absolutely godawful treatment of the British press and the royal family, and gained his sanity in the process.
😢
Sad
Best scene of the Crown
Whatever he did, he loved his brother
When i watched this scene, I feel really bad for Edward, He lost his Father, His Throne, His Family hates him, His Brother whom he loved Died, He lost the chance to make himself something of worthy.
10/10 beautiful scene
The best scene in this series. Loathing, contempt for his family and the institution, possibly regret that he never got to have what his father, his brother, and his niece had all experienced. I almost feel pity for him. I even shed a tear watching this.
It took a lot of courage to give up the throne for the one he loves. I believe he feels a relief that he is free from the system. No regrets.
When i watch this scene......it will be a history repeat itself on Prince Harry one day. He turn his back because of Meghan Ragland, the way Prince Edward to Wallis Simpon. He will wake up realize all the things he miss....Family, Friends and UK.
You almost feel sorry for the smug, arrogant, self righteous, nazi, usurping prick.
Such a powerful scene and emotional to see! If he was in the times of today he would be King, Back then he had no choice but to abdicate! Times have changed! Privy council should have stepped up back then! But we can't change history!
This scene is just so real
he's swaying almost as if he's marching with the wedding procession...
to think it could have been him instead George who died so soon
I just hope it doesn't turn out to be Harry's scene in the sequel of the Crown or in his real life for that matter. I hope when he regrets his decision he atleast he allowed back home.
I always find myself coming back to this scene, might I say one of the best scenes in the show. The bagpipe, for me, has always been the most heartwrenching and emotionally potent instrument in the world. And, coupled with the phenomenal acting from Alex Jennings (Emmy worthy as a scene on its own, due to his remarkable talent) - as he cries in utter grief and sorrow while playing 'Flowers of the Forest', a piece which symbolises the passing of the soul from earth into the distance, that is to Heaven - this scene is beyond devastating to watch. Absolutely masterful.
0:29 Who's here after watching the bagpipe in late Queen's funeral!😭😭
Flowers of the forest. Beautiful. It is meant to be played this slow? Possibly done this way for theatrical reasons.
Thought of this during the queens funeral when the bagpipes were being played
What is he playing ? The name of the song ?
Get those bagpipes out of your mouth. Filthy traitor....
Everybody sees many different meanings of this scene: is he angry that he is not the king anymore? Jealous? Sad? It doesn't matter. Earlier it was mentioned that Edward plays bagpipes when he misses home. And ultimately that is the main theme in this scene - homesickness, knowing he cannot return anytime he likes due to the choices he made in his life... And that makes David sad, and Wallis too - because she understands that she was the reason of it all.
The Queen is dead. Long live the King
He played As Queen Victoria's Uncle King Leopold I in Victoria and he played as Queen Victoria great-grandchild King Edward VIII in The Crown
Everyone needs to calm down. Yep, King Edward VIII too cozy with the Nazi's but literally who wasn't before the war??? You can both recognize someone's shortcomings and admire their character/sympathize with their situation at the same time. No one has achieved complete purity in their lives.
It's almost Shakespearean how tragic the Duke of Windsor's story was
So King Edward has pretty much given up, he no longer cared about the throne and being exiled from his home country also what he did was really unforgivable that caused him to be exiled from his country. Felt like the British Royal Family disowned him but in the end when he passed he was buried back in his home country. Even though it felt like the British Royal Family disowned him, King Edward really loved not only his brother and wife but his entire family and regretted the unforgivable action he did. Life for Edward was pretty depressing but in the end no one can stay mad forever.
A King who never wore a Crown
i remember 5 years ago when i see this scene nd i fall in love with the show
You know who else misses their family.. the millions of people whose families were murdered who this guy was friends with.
This scene made me cry for him
Traitor.
When you're reminded that you gave up being a God...
I think so much is expected of just one family but it is required for the system, and them, to work. I lament the heartbreak for King Edward, then for Margaret, now for Harry. Both Meghan and Wallis never understood their role was to be the supporting wife, not an individual. Kate understands perfectly and achieves so much.
He knew right then he fucked up
I will always have conflicted feelings about Edward viii because we just don't know if he would have had the same moral center that george vi had got England through world war II or would England not exist anymore and he go beg for terms in some type of power sharing agreement with Hitler. But also if you ever read what happened to the duchess of Windsor after Edward's death she literally paid her part for the abdication while she was still on this earth. Go look it up it's a horrifying story.
It's a good thing that he abdicated the throne. He and his wife were both Nazi sympathizers. I have no sympathy for either one of them.
Flowers of the forest....
Whoever was actually playing those pipes was very good.
“Playing the bagpipes and crying”. Why does this sound so funny lmao
LOL THE TITLE
God knows what our uk would have looked like now had David never left the thrown?
Did he have a Right? When his brother, George VI, had fought against NAZI - because of his Resignation - , he had gotten along with THEM. What a SHAME!!!
