BOA Ski Boots || Dialed In or Overhyped?
The BOA Fit System has made its way into ski boots, promising improved fit, comfort, and performance. But does it live up to the hype? In this review, I put BOA-equipped ski boots to the test and compare them to traditional buckle systems to determine whether this innovation is a true advancement or just clever marketing.

Sun Peaks has excellent snow preservation with not a lot of temp fluctuation and they get small frequent snow storms so it is not for powder hounds, it is for speed freaks. Look down a perfectly groomed run, no one else is on it, go as fast as you want.
I agree, great elevation for a consistent resort. Very similar to places like Panorama and Sunshine as well.
I was at the snow show in London last October and I'm pretty sure I saw some new K2 boots that had BOA for the lower two buckles but also BOA on the liner too.
That definitely makes the most sense to me.
How r u always skiing
Would you like to see more snowboarding?
What lenght selfie stick did you use?
It was about 3 feet / 1 meter long.
Is this mount Washington?
Yes, this is Mount Washington on Vancouver Island.
@ Figured as much. Recognized the terrain.
Ok but what island?
@@LegitD0nuT Vancouver Island, Canada
i don’t like it
@@SkiBackwards Vancouver Island, Canada
@@SkiBackwards not for everybody I suppose, all good.
@@RyandeMilliano my mountain it just happens a lot so it makes it icy
@@SkiBackwards fair point, I grew up with icy slopes and have learned to enjoy the groomers on these days.
I got bicep surgery over the summer and I’m not strong enough to buckle down looking into getting boas
@@O.A_Bones Rough, another option may be the the old Full Tilts. They are now under K2's freestyle line. Easiest to get into and the buckles use a cable system that is much easier than traditional buckles.
@ i bought a pair of full tilts before they closed up shop but I got them in 120 flex. Started with rossignal 100 but only skied for two years
@ just looked at them again they’re the full tilt descendent 120
Not this season 24/25 it really sucked!
Yeah, I’ve heard that, tough to hear but lucky that is not the norm there.
Those supras are some great looking boots. I was just in the market for boots recently and after seeing the model that you have in person I have to say I was drawn to it and secretly crossing my fingers that my boot fitter would put me into a pair. It turned out as expected I have a low volume foot and the supras would have been too large for me. I was put into some S Pro alpha 130s and although I preferred the look of these supras, I’m really glad I don’t have to deal with the extra complications of the boa system. The fit is amazing on these alphas and I have no issues with traditional buckles
Rad feedback, I agree, the boots look so good in the white which is what drew me to them, but I also have lower volume feet and although my feet are not swimming in them, I think the Alpha 130 would be my choice next time. That said, these are the most comfortable boots I've owned.
He actually wasn’t that great…. You can just tell by how he skis, it’s like he started in his teens or twenties. I started when I was 2 years old and 1 month. Fun job though, good for him if he enjoins it.
I picked up skiing in my 20s after decades of hockey and snowboarding. Skiing is a tough sport to get the technique perfect for sure. I constantly feel like a hockey player with long awkward skates haha.
This is my first season on season on my SPro 130 BOA and can honestly say they have been a game changer for me it is the first time i ever skied with no pain, always had to stop and take the boots off during the day and loosen buckles between ski runs etc. I have high arch and instep. Have owned several pairs of boots previously and even after being modified never worked really worked. I can now ski all day and really never need to loosen. Will agree they are little bit harder to put on and off. To me they live up to the hype.
I had the same experience with my SPro 120 BOAs
@@malcolmturner4232 So rad to hear that, like any boot, there is an ideal skiier for them. I am glad they worked well for you. I definitely like the boots as well.
big difference but insta 360 better to me
Insta 360 is was better
@lucaskroell4016 Agreed
Tried out my first boa boot this season. As someone who never really had a fit issue with traditional ski boots, I couldn't really tell any difference in how the boots felt on my feet and there wasn't any performance benefit to skiing in them. Therefore there are nothing but cons compared to buckles. Slower to get on, harder to replace, more complicated of a system, and had to deal with icing which would lock my foot into the boot until they were able to thaw. Good thing the boots stared to crack and I could immediately swap back to a buckle boot.
@@frugalmiester I appreciate sharing your experience with the BOA, I believe they are fine but don’t deserve the hype they are getting and the premium price. Where did they start to crack? Was it because of the BOA system?
@@RyandeMilliano started cracking around an attachment point of the boa hardware. Couldn’t say that it was because of boa and it was more likely that manufacturers are having to use different plastic blends to accommodate for how boa compresses the boot which could be more prone to cracking.
Good feedback, I'll definitely keep a keen eye on those connection points. Thanks
Just went for the first time yesterday, its amazing up there
Was there for two weeks, 3”.
@@leonardbertaux6897 that’s rough, hope you still had a good time.
Why ruin the moment by holding a camera? Is getting validation more important than enjoying the moment?
First rule of skiing/boarding. Don’t share how awesome a mountain is to the entire internet. But hey, long lift lines and raised prices is worth a few likes right.
I think you mean, no friends on a pow day, or maybe my rule book is a past edition haha.
It’s Sun Peaks dude - not exactly a secret spot
@ it’s not. But why tell everybody to go there? Rookie mistake.
Amazing! What is the name of the song?
Hardening plastic from cold is an excellent point.
I appreciate that, I found myself having to take my glove off to tighten them when snow and ice would develop too. Not ideal, but decent boots overall, just not the revolution the industry would have you believe.
So much to love at Panorama (and Invermere)! You hit a lot of the great points about the resort and why we kept going back there. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate that, the resort is amazing, anything I missed that you think should have been mentioned?
@@RyandeMilliano Essentially no lift lines. Only at 9am and even that is not bad. While some may say that there are not a lot of choices for restaurants, what they do have is excellent options. The resort has far more accommodations that have kitchenets which makes things easier for families. Grocery store in the lower village has everything you would need (even alcohol) and they don't gouge you on pricing. Free shuttle to and from Invermere. If you want to experience the great things Invermere has to offer, this is an alternative than driving. It also is great if you decide to stay at a place in Invermere and can use it to go to the resort if others want to enjoy the Whiteway or have a rest day. As you said very family orientated.
Come back to Canada soon!
This place is so sick!
Disagree. Been snowboarding my whole life and it’s not worth the trip. Stick to any other resort.
It is great
@@doggo4703 too flat
Great review! I am a regular and you are pretty much spot on.
I appreciate that, glad to know it was accurate with my limited time there. Cheers.
Thanks for this, looking for a new place to go, don’t love the “big” resorts. Been going to Whitefish the last few years.
Rad, hope you can make your way out. I feel it would be worth the trip.
Super ❤❤❤
I am legit worried I need to get wider skis than my Moment Deathwish 112s
@@ChristopherMoye haha, 112s should be a solid choice. Still got to ski back to the lift base. Have a good trip!
New skis?
Yeah, really excited to have a resort ski with a narrower waist. These are very fun.
Place is awesome!
Agreed, I’ve only been a couple times but can’t wait to get out again!
Ski Patrol..usually knows their stuff😮
I’m a snowboarder and I go there every Sunday I absolutely recommend Sun Peaks it’s the funnest mountain I’ve been to. The run I recommend is Five mile for short fairly easy runs and sun dance for steep and hard ones
@Rats.4576itsNotArealAount thanks for the local recommendation! Next time I am out that way I will check it out.
@ no problem
I really want to get into this, I'm starting at zero. Been an island kid though, growing up crawling all over rocky shorelines is natural for me. Thanks for this vid, any suggestions as to beginner courses would be much appreciated
@@jenniferbarnes5312 honestly, I am at the same point as you haha. Island Alpine Guides would be the best starting place, as well as your local indoor climbing gym. That is where I first learned the basics. This trip was actually my first roped up outdoor climb, IAG were so great and gave me loads of confidence.
@@RyandeMilliano I certainly will! Thanks again, I'm so glad you posted this video 🙂
And here i am thinking my size 11 boot wasnt on the larger side😂 FTD! 🤙🏻
Haha, yeah, that would be at mid-wide setup for sure, I would aim for at least 26.0 cm at waist unless you don't ever intent to snowboard on steep runs or carve hard.
I think your method of inflating inner tube seems harder. I think.
Could be for sure, may just be personal preference, I find that if the tube is flat there is a better chance of pinching it in the rim.
What a great Playground!! Can't say enough good things about the people who ski here.
@@americaofthenorth655 agreed, very rad vibe there!
Anyone know how the chutes are for snowboarders? Obviously skiers have a better time on the double black steep stuff, but wondering how advanced boarders feel on a lot of this mountain's steep stuff? Great vid!
I got ride T1, T2 & CPR ridge and it was fantastic! it is defiantly a challenging and intimidating mountain but you are just so exposed to it that its what you have to ride and at the end of the day it was a blast and you feel more confident riding steeps. You will ride another resort and live the meme "this double black would be a blue at kicking horse"
I love Panorama, i've skied heaps of places in the world. Whiss, NZ, Hakuba, Niseko, Australia etc and Panorama Ski Resort is the only place i'd come back and ski again. awesome place!
Revy has a flawed lift system due to the original developers of the mountain failure to account for the extremely low elevation. Also the design of the lift system does a poor job of spreading out skiers.
I would be excited to know the original resort plan, it does feel like there is a lot of potential for additional lifts.
When you say temperature is around zero to -5, I hope you're not talking about 0 °F., are you?
@@ZanMajhenic-or7dp haha, nope, Celsius here in Canada.
Full tilt are the best boots
@@Th3Rafwarrior I agree, but weren’t they bought by K2? Are they still as good?
I bought the K2 mindbender last year and they are very comfy. I felt like these ones were gimmicky and more things were to go wrong with them like that dial falling apart or the other hinge points.
For sure, there are more parts that can fail, they seem extremely well engineered and I wouldn't witty too much about reliability. Just not a needed change in my opinion, buckles were fine.
2.5m base mid december is nuts!
We are super fortunate, now just hoping the cold weather can continue!
Soup and salad waiting in the yurt. Nothing beats the steeps of the horse
KHMR is #1 Golden is a great town Beautiful British Columbia
Me with my old rear entry boots skipping all the effort
The last scene, was probably an avalanche terrain given the small trees, with the dumping power it might form a storm slab, and you guys skied all together... smells like a recipe for some danger
I can appreciate the concern, the terrain is actually in a managed forest, this area was clear-cut a little while ago.
I am good. I ski big mountains out West. I can jump off cliffs, ski fast, etc. Ski Patrol and locals smoke me. There are levels to this thing. I can be following them and feeling good, then they huck a backflip off a cliff, literally while still eating a Cliff bar- no joke. Like it's breathing to some of these dudes.
Love the design/ style of the video! Please keep making these on all the Canadian ski resorts!!
I appreciate the positive feedback, any resorts you specifically have in mind? Looking to prioritize my upcoming winter road trips.
