Приєднався 15 сер 2023
I (Petri Rahja) will delve into the world of DAWs to explore how they function.
Welcome to my channel!
My channel will practically show how different Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) work when creating music. Main focus is on workflow and how to work with your DAW.
My primary go-to DAW is #ableton Live, and I am using the Suite version. After illustrating concepts like Side Chaining in Ableton Live, I will demonstrate how to achieve the same in #protools , #studioone , #logicprox , #reason , #cubase , and #universalaudio #Luna - these are the DAWs I currently have.
This will serve as a hands-on learning experience for me, as I am primarily use Ableton Live. I hope you will find it intriguing to observe the distinctions among the DAWs and perhaps discover one that best suits your preferences.
I trust you will enjoy this journey.
One more thing: The ultimate DAW is always the one you have and understand the most!

No Bitwig? :)
I have version 3.3.4 witch I could use to do it in Bitwig as well. Need to check if it runs on the current setup.
You don’t have to activate input monitoring 1 by 1. I’m not in front of my computer right now but I believe if you highlight all tracks and then option + shift click, it’ll do all selected tracks at once
Yes you can do that. Thank
Anyone have an Idea how to Fix my Pro tools midi Problem. My Midi Notes are offset about 1/16 to early. I have no Latency Problems i hear everthing in time. And i habe no quantisation on.and yes i am in timing
I have MC707 and don’t know you could separate out a single drum track to individual audio channels. I’ll be trying this out. Thank for the video.
Yes, you can get audio over USB for multiple channels. This is what I did with TR-8S.
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Disabling instruments in ableton does not unload them from RAM. It only disables their CPU usage.
Me too lol
Great !
Hi Petrie, I also use a Native Instruments S61. Because you are changing settings within Luna (changing to Core Audio from Appolo thunderbolt) will this affect my Keyboard in any way?
Hi Chris, Changing to Core Audio from Apollo thunderbolt will not effect S61 functionality in any way. Now LUNA added (version 1.7) multitimbral capability so you can use MASCHINE as plugin with all 16 channels mapped inside LUNA.
@@Howdoyoudaw OK, that's great. So enable the same setup from the video, but no need to run Maschine in standalone?
Thank you very much for this video!
Thank you! Great that you enjoyed.
This is not a new Trend,. this is common since 30 years,. Ableton Live was built around this concept (you said it,.. they were the first ,. maybe fruity loops too) ,. and you can hear this trend even in 90s (loopbased music),. in my bubble the trend goes away from this old shoes,..
Indeed, it is not a new tred in music, but it is a new trend in DAWs.Like Studio One just released 7 where they support this. Pro Tools in bringing the Sketch. Few years back Logic Pro introduced grid. Si in therms of DAWs it is kinda new :)
Great video Sir! I´m tempted to switch to Luna, but that having not a controller is holding me off. I have 2 streamdecks already, anyways, thank you so much and greetings from Mexico City
Thank you ! I also added now a story about Softube Console 1 & LUNA! Love Mexico ❤️ ua-cam.com/video/5Kx5UmiprhA/v-deo.html
you are using logic pro 11.01 not Logic Pro X !! X stands for 10 , otherwise thanks for the informative videos , i am getting this set up for Logic Pro next month ,
You are correct, I am using 11.01 :) Old habits die slowly and still Logic Pro is Logic Pro X for me as it has been that for the past 8 year until now ... heheh
Nice high level overview. Thanks!
Thanks !!
Would love to see direct integration in Ableton as well. I‘m bit worried that the Console 1 Plugin in front of every Instrument chain can mess up things especially when you work with External Instrument Device in Ableton and have complex Instrument chains….
What I have seen it is pretty light weight, but agree with the worry and have had couple of crashes with the Softube display overlays software. Here is a longer video on Ableton and Console 1 integrations. ua-cam.com/video/w7qmaLxp7cQ/v-deo.html
Keep pushing! 😊
This is exactly the tutorial I've been searching for. Thanks for posting this video!
Thank you! Great it is helpful.
What is it what your are running on your iPad?
Hi, it is Metagrid Pro metasystem.io/ Highly recommending it, I like it a lot more than Streamdeck. (If you meant the app with control buttons)
How do you find to keep it on the side not in front of the monitor ? Would like to hear more of your experiences with the device in near future! Thanks!
For optimal listening position I like to sit straigh towards the desk so that the stereo image is the best and you hear Middle/Side sounds better as well as Left and Right. This why I would not place it on side. But that just me. I started it with having it on the left but did not feel it being great.
@@Howdoyoudaw Doesn't it depend on the listing position and height ? The triangle between speakers and the listener has to be without any impedent. That's also a reason why I don't put a monitor on any side. Can't speak from a practical standpoint as I haven't tried the both devices yet. I am curious about the height of the rack unit for Softube devices.
I actually meant putting it on the studio desk on the left/right side of the keyboard. In all the reviews and trailers they use the device in front of the monitor. I am not sure if it's necessary.
It does depend, in my case my listening position is in the middle of my desk and also the moniror is back enough not to disturb the sound coming straight. The height of that stand is 24 cm. I tested it to have on side og keyboard and flat on desk. Ergonimically feel this what I have is best for me.
Do you have the sub 37 done please
I do not own sub 37, but is follows the same logic as any other synth when using external synth.
Thanks for the video! I got what I want to know. I'm wondering if I would come back to Reason from Logic Pro... Because Reason makes me feel like being in a real studio...
Great ! Thanks for the heads up. I have been working mainly in Ableton, but tempted to do a project in Reason. The new improvements and instruments make it pretty good and as you say it is close to analog world with it's workflow and approach.
So, what I'm getting from this is, I have to setup 16 different AUX if I have a 16 part multitimbral synth?
Yes 16 stero aux if you have 16 stereo out from multitimbral synth. In case they are mono the 16 mono aux for 16 mono out from multitimbral synth
@@Howdoyoudaw So, USB won't accomplish this? The reason I'm asking is I wanted to use the internal sounds of my Roland DS and control them through the DAW.
@@pctshooter Does the Roland Juno-DS audio over USB have 16 audio channels in ? What I do with my synt is that I record the sound one at the time as external synths do not have more that 2 or 3 multitibral capabilities. DS manual says it has 16 parts.
@@Howdoyoudaw it does have 16 parts and it has a built-in audio interface.
@@pctshooter Thenk you need to map all audio in in the Studio One Audio configuration to get all in.
Yes, hope Luna will get multi outputs and ARA 2 support. Best/Mathias

My Mac Mini i9 Monterey Does Not Support MiDI. Thanks Apple...
mac Mini / Monterey should definitely support MIDI. What versio of Pro Tools you are running ? What is the issue you are facing ?
I have installed Avid control App and EUCON on my Tablet and my PC but when I opened my Cubase AI 13 the EUCON doesn't show in the add device list in studio setup can you please guide me to resolve this issue

Can please show the step by step guide to install it on PC Windows 11
Hope you are able to troubleshoot this. I do not have Windows PC, sorry that can not be more helpful
perfect thanks!

Thank you. This helped kick start my brain on this...! 🙂
Great to hear !!
Hi Petri, thanks for this video. I can follow all of your steps except for one. How did you get 16 tracks with VB-Audio. I purchased each cable twice, but I can still only see 8 inputs and outputs in my aggregate device. Appreciate your help. Your channel is great!
Hi @ennethouseTV, I Mac you can create an Aggregate device and add all the individual VB-Audio devices into that aggregate device. Here is another video I made with VB-Audio devices ... ua-cam.com/video/8z-rwOCdJ-w/v-deo.htmlsi=ClsOqkroOsg3rpOm

Note to all > If and when doing Side Chain in Pro Tools the BUS needs to be MONO. Only Mono buss can be used in Side Chain
Hi, I have a question regarding of this video
Hey, please ! What is the question? Happy to help
@@Howdoyoudaw hi thanks for your availability, here's the question, I have a yamaha motif es6, without the 6 output jack card, there are only left and right, I saw that my xternal synthesizer is recognized, the preset motif es exists and it is universal for all models eg (6-7 etc..) I tried to open it and it works, it automatically recognizes all the instruments of my motif, unfortunately there are only two return inputs and I don't have the possibility to send the instruments I play individually in pattern mode ( in practice, inside the keyboard you can create a multi instrument by assigning one or more voices to each channel (1-16), exactly like in vst like omnisphere or kontakt) I would like to activate audio outputs for each channel, just like in multi instrument vst ( channel 1 ou A channel 2 out b etc) so that I can mix each instrument individually, is it possible to create a midi device from scratch that allows me to do this? some time ago a guy told me that you can build MIDI virtual instrument controllers from scratch, he also showed me a manual on the hidden functions of Cubase, looking carefully at the images however it was a completely different page from the one you show you in the more options section, it was made like a real plug in
@@alessandrocoriani5574 Hey, just to verify few things. What I see that Yamaha motif es6 potentially has 4 outputs. Main output (L/R) and Assignable Output (L/R). You need to check the Synth manual how do that. Every synth has they own way for this. That is usually called keyboard SPLIT in analog synth. Next when you have programmed Yamaha to split keyboard into sections / splits then from the DAW you need to send midi in those ranges. Like if you have drums in area of C1-B2, you send the MIDI from DAW to that range. The you can have a bass synth in the range C3-C5 in a way that C3 actually represents C1. However when sending MIDI to Yamaha, the bass notes need to be send in the range of C3-C5. You can do all this in one MIDI channel no need to use many channels necessary. To get the audio in you need a sound crad with at least 4 inputs assuming you will send audio in all 4. Hope this helps. Let me know.
I already knew this, the pattern function of the keyboard allows you to load and edit voices according to the parameters you told me (4 splits per octave) in the pattern function a mixer screen appears where it is possible to assign these created voices to the 16 midi channels and there it is the possibility of loading a multivoice split into 4 parts for each channel, I am interested in the Cubase part, i.e. each channel of the 16 present in the pattern mixer screen in 16 different audio inputs on Cubase as is done with omnisphere, what I can do with the motif es preset from the more options section and see the instrument rack on the right side of Cubase but when I choose the activate inputs option it gives me only and exclusively one choice, namely the aux l-r inputs without any possibility of adding them and the audio signal that output concerns all the channels of the pattern together, is it possible to practically create a function like that of omnisphere, i.e. activate audio outputs for each midi channel (total 16) even if I can only send the audio signal from 2 outputs?
I wish Luna come to pc already 😒
Now u can!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Not sure if I missed anything out from your video, but my ProTools still only shows my devices inside the "Predefined" list. Not directly on the Midi Track list menu... Thanks in advance for any possible suggestion.

Thanks! Great if you find it useful <3 I have the same. Seems that it does not reset the memory. Can be a Mackie protocol issue as well, but most likely SSL is cashing / keeping memory state
@@Howdoyoudaw thank you for this I'm not alone then. I really appreciate you getting back to me
My question is how is the sound compared to other DAW such Pro Tools, Mixbus and Studio One? My understanding when I first looked at this years ago is that Luna allows you the play through the plugin instead of just adding a plugin to a track like Pro Tools for example . Thus giving you a more authentic sound. So If I add the API or Neve summing plugin for example your getting a more authentic sound.
The sound quality is pretty awesome and indeed getting more thicker and authentic sound with tapes, API and Neve summing.
Very good. Thank you. Go well
Thank you!!
Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do.
Thank You for you tips on Cubase. When you use the plate reverb as your parallel process, the switch on the send if it is in orange is post effects, right? When it is in blue is pre send, can you explain to me when do you use pre effects send please?
Hey, It is actually pre and post fader. So when I want to send signal to FX with its original volume I will do pre fader. In Cubase (12) you can actually set where the fader is located in the insert channels. So how many inserts are pre fader and how many are post. For sound design I use inserts in channel and for FX like room and reverb usually pre fader as you still can select how much signal you are sending into FX. When sending a kick to side chain I also send it pre fader so the side chain signal will not get effected with the fader of kick. Yes, blue = pre fader. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply 😅
Very nice and clear explanation
