Sean Malone 'Lion's Roar' Arpeggio Explanation
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
This video demonstrates how Sean plays a G minor arpeggio (0:28) found within the bridge section of the song 'Lion's Roar' by Cynic. Sean indicated that in order to play this arpeggio in a smooth manner one is required to play the final note (G) of the arpeggio with the open string. This video was provided to demonstrate this. Sean also inserted fret numbers on the sheet music to specify where ...
Cynic (Sean Malone) - I'm But A Wave Too... (Variations)

Dear listeners, By now you may have noticed my strong interest with the band Cynic, in particular Sean Malone's playing. I wanted to make a video that showed the starting point as to what drew me into Cynic's/Sean Malone's music. The pre-chorus found within "I'm But A Wave Too..." has to be my favourite moment throughout Cynic's catalog. Because I took a strong interest in the band, I quickly s...

I would like to thank Michel Belanger for taking the time to collaborate with me. This has been in the works for a while now, so I am delighted to finally share this video with you all. Thank you Michel, you are amazing at what you do. I also want to give a very special thank you to a very good friend of mine, Adam Ciric. Adam was an integral part in making this video happen and helped out by r...

Cynic - How Could I (Solo Section Bass Cover) *Isolated Track*
People hating on this album are ignorant. This is Cynic’s best work by far!
Makes me want to pick up the bass right away and give it a try!
Just found this and want to say thank you.
Awesome cover! Did you learn it by ear?
Bro, i was listening to knower album and was certain i heard this breakdown somewhere. I listened to meshuggar and other djent and thought im going crazy, i couldnt find it. Turns out ive heard it on your channel half a year ago
Absolutely beautiful, an amazing cover to go along with an amazing bassist!
Saw Cynic on Focus tour and was hooked. Sent fan letter to get on "mailing list" (pre Internet era!) Paul sent me a fan flier/zine thing with a handwritten post-it note thanking me with perfectly personalized references to my letter. I treasured that silly post-it note as if it was penned by an A-list celebrity!
I really would love to hear or see a Tribute to Maestro Sean Malone at some point, if you ever felt like it. I love him so much, and I've never met him, but I feel some kind of Spirit/Soul connection/deep appreciation for him. We both know that "Master Sean" as I love to call him is not nearly as "Known or Widely Exalted" as we both feel that he should be. Even Paul compares him to Bach and Jaco, which is insane for a musician like him to say, so you know he deserves to be "given his flowers" so that the World Knows who He Is/Was❤ I only am "bugging" you about this because you are someone who is not only an amazing musician, but I feel like you have many experiences in your tenure as his student/protege, if I'm not mistaken.
Morse code bass line.
Other than atypical time signatures, i dont see any major similarities to Meshuggah. You might as well say they covered the Dillinger Escape Plan.
bass name?
Nice
guy on the bass needs some work
Man you had really good questions for Paul! I found out a lot of things listening to this. And i had no idea Reinert had a vocal part 😮
This is total Bliss♥️..
I finally got around to checking this whole interview out! Loved it Alex. You pointed out a ton of things from Focus that I didn't even realize and it is one of my favorites of all time! Nice job man. Stoked to check out your music in Forms down the way too! Cheers!
Thank you for this, awesome to hear Malones insights on music
Rational Gaze?
No, irrational gaze

That bridge is fire 💯💯 What is the Meshuggah song that it references?
Just sounds like something Meshuggah would do 😅
Reminds me a lot of new millennium cyanide christ
The song that it's the closest to is Rational Gaze! Heavily syncopated m9 interval.
@@benecarbonara my bad yeah that's torally Rational Gaze
Seriously this is the most important Sean Malone video on UA-cam. That line when the drums kick. I close my eyes with certain bass players I could go “ Oh thats Jaco or Geddy or Les” or whoever. When that line kicks THAT is Sean Malone.
Sir I think you’re one octave up
Reely???
Maybe why it's future bread machine and not breed machine
@@mikegrizzy7652 Is there a moral obligation to play this song in its original presentation?
Best basseline ever!!
Don't play it in that tunning, play it in A#, it sounds retarded like that
Oh what a musician..
dude, do this with no pick and i will cry tears
duuud that would be insane
I know it's still a few weeks away but what I'd really like for Christmas is the B side, or if I'm being really greedy a nice vinyl copy so I can share this with my neighbours.
There are 5 other tracks that I did not include on this demo...
@@alexderlago ooh will we be getting a listen??
@@user-nb5vy5ef3z Yes. When the record comes out.
Thank you for this. You've shared some great gems on here about Sean Malone, thank you for putting this up.
I find this video quite humorous, best regards.
Beautiful
I've seen several extraordinary bassists use their plucking hand at this angle- I can't imagine it's very comfortable for more than a few minutes. I get tendon pain pretty quickly with my wrist bent like that. Am I missing something?
You have to loosen up with it. Energy efficiency and economy of motion is the name of the game. Wrist position will vary. No pain no gain isn’t a thing with music. If it hurts, don’t do it!
most people playing this speed with fingers regularly, 2 or 3 fingers, doesnt matter, will get tendon problems eventually. happened to me as well.
is there a doc of the bass transcription and drums available?
Shit's bussin for real for real homie
Glad I wasn't the only one who made the Meshuggah connection with this song :) Nice work!
They're a great band, but unfortunately I was pretty disappointed by the rest of the album not being as groovy heavy as this song.
@@madelinehoyle1059did you even listen?😂
@@kentosalazar to the rest of the album KNOWER FOREVER? What other songs on it are as heavy as this?
Clowncore type beat
I don't know why everyone thinks Lewis Cole is the drummer for clown core. Just because he has the same drum setup, style, sound, skinny body type lol
@@headkase11 He just has same everything
@@headkase11the biggest clue is that the sax player is sam gendel
Paul is correct, Symbolic is the Death album after Individual Thought Patterns. Individual came out in 93 and Symbolic in 95 for reference.
Great conversation. Cynic are incredible. Focus is an all time classic. Awesome to hear from Paul. Human is my favorite Death album. Ascension Codes is my favorite album of 2021.
that's such a beautiful bass, what is it?

Love it. Where's the rest of it?

Hey Alex, do you mind sharing what year this interview is from?
2000
@@alexderlago Thank you! Think this is the first interview I have heard with Sean Malone. Love your bass playing btw, your right hand technique is something that I strive for. Being able to play so softly.
Yeah thats great, but do barnacles get bored?
Yes but, is that rat shit or (wild) rice?
Not bad. 99% of the small channels youtube has been showing me have been of 0 interest to me but they finally got one right. Subscribed
Hell yeah 🙌
