We show you how to replace a 76 Cutlass floor pan the right way!
Those of you that live in the rust belt know how crusty and rusty these old cars and trucks can be after years of winter road salt taking it toll on the underside, fender wells, and pretty much anywhere else salt and road grime get trapped. It can and will destroy everything. Chaz's 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass is no exception. After spending its life in Michigan the floorboards looked more like the night sky than actual solid metal. That was until now. Rather than just repair the bad spot, we have elected to install a complete one piece floor pan and trunk floor. Yes this is more expensive than just patching the existing problems, but when done nobody will be none the wiser that is a replacement pan. So follow along as we take you through the process of removing and installing a complete floor assembly.

    i'm a broken record moaning on every car youtube channel about why nobody in American seems to be able to fit a safety guard to a grinder, no wonder you call them "death wheels" without the guard the wheel can shatter into you face, you hand can slip into the back of the wheel and the sparks flyback in your face. its just crazy! the guards don't even get in the way. You can only cut with the front half of the wheel anyway. I wish every youtube channel in American would stop setting such a terrible safety example. (hopefully reading this will make at least one person safer. )

    What are you doing with the bare metal spots after your filler work is done I have the same issue right now before high build. Blend in some epoxy? What are you using for high build VP 2050 or 5300 from TAMCO dtm?

    • @CovertsShop
      @CovertsShop Місяць тому

      You have a couple of options. You could epoxy the car again. Or if you have a dtm primer that will too. I’ve done both ways successfully. We are currently using Tamco 5310 primer

    • @Supanova70
      @Supanova70 Місяць тому

      @CovertsShop I use 5310 as well. Not sure if I should sandwich the epoxy over the existing filler or not or just go right to 5310. I know they just use vp2050 over it all. I guess i will give tamco a shout. Person I feel it's a waste of material to go back to epoxy.maybe just the bare spots let it cure for 2 weeks 150 overall then start 5310.

    Great video. I’m in southern Ohio. Love the truck! I have an 83’ that I’m thinking about back saying the front end also. I heard you have to modify the wiper mounts and use the 73-80 wiper arm assembly. Is that true?

    • @CovertsShop

      Thank you! Yes the you will need to install 73-80 wiper transmission assembly. The 81-87 assembly hits the hood. That will involve drilling a few holes

    You could try running a tig torch super cold and overlap tacks. It also may not be a weldable grade of aluminum

    • @CovertsShop
