Henry and Inukshuk enjoying some time in their private lake this week!
They live in the world's largest facility dedicated purely to the care of polar bears, the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Ontario Canada. Offering a sprawling natural environment for their bears, they also offer ways for humans to learn about all polar bears and what makes this species so unique.

Groundhogs enjoy the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat as much as the polar bears do. Usually the groundhogs are ignored but the other day, Ganuk seemed to be interested enough to go sniff one out, twice! So far Ganuk isn't quite stealthy or fast enough to get too close, but the groundhog will have to keep an extra eye out next time he is sunbathing on a rock. Henry spent a lot of time digging away at the frozen lake - I wasn't sure what was there until he pulled out a barrel! He seemed pretty proud of himself and his treasure, until he decided to stuff it back into the lake 🤣 He eventually wandered off with it still in the water, leaving it for one of his friends or for another fun day for himself. While most people think of bear hugs as something enjoyable, the trees at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat tend to disagree. Henry seemed to enjoy hugging, biting and rolling over the trees this year, leaving a trail of destruction behind him!
