Volk Racing TE37's Bronze + Bridgestone RE71rs 255/35/18 [For Sale]
Sadly it is time for me to set these beauties free and let them find their way to a new home 😭
The reality is my car is under prepped for the class and while that is good enough for local dominance, it simply won't do for serious competition.
With no sponsors, the only way to gear up for next season is to sell this setup, and downgrade to something more cost effective.

Event 3 of the 2024 Season with the Buccaneer Region (Jax Solo) of the SCCA. This was only the second event at our new local site, definitely not used to the the smaller space and gymkahna-esqe elements just yet...lol STX field was light, but what it lacked in quantity it made up for in quality as my sole competition was a legit 1998 Acura Integra Type R, which was pretty cool! Event 9 of the 2024 Season with the Buccaneer Region (Jax Solo) of the SCCA. This is the first event back after the underwhelming performance at the FL state championships, and only my second event at this site, sadly, this is also the final event of the 2024 AutoX season. One good thing is that the conditions (low speed course on dirty, uneven pavement) lends itself well to the setup I was run...

This video covers everything you need to know to upgrade the sun visors in your Volvo 240 to a readily available OEM quality unit that not only offers superior coverage, and modern features, but looks better too! Many people do not realize that the Volvo 240 wagon (245) has completely different sun visors than the sedans (244) / coupes (242) ....and they are a horrible design. Instead of trying...

Event 3.5 of the 2024 Season with the Buccaneer / Savannah Region (Jax Solo) of the SCCA. This was an interesting event for a few reasons: 1) This was the annual inter-regional "North (Savannah) vs South (Jax)" shootout! 2) This is my first time driving Robeling Road Raceway 3) This was the largest STX field I have ever seen at an event! (11 drivers) 4) I ended up with back to back re-runs righ...

Event 2 of the 2024 Season with the Buccaneer Region (Jax Solo) of the SCCA. (sorry, no video for E1) This was the first ever event at a new site for the club. the surface is mostly asphalt, with a large concrete skid pad in the center. The space necessitates a tighter more technical course compared to anything we have run in the past 3 years. Combined with the varying grip levels and challengi...

Some Initial D style touge runs at the 2021 Deals Gap Rotary Rally! Series 2 RX-8 R3 vs Series 1 RX-8 GT vs FD RX7 All cars are running strong on their original engines with no porting or internal modifications. *Full Disclosure* FD3S (RX-7) is running stock boost on 225/50/16 all seasons, so it was not a fair comparison , thus we will not get into the "superior chassis" argument here. Got to have a drive along to hear in the vehicle. Awesome.
@@mfnd502 is actually surprisingly quiet, with the exception of the spool down when you let off the throttle. The small turbo and small diameter piping probably have a lot to do with that.
I like the Tsuchiya-inspired gloves!
Thanks! One event it was like 100* and I found myself trying to wipe my hands mid-run.......a better solution was needed, lol.
the car really let loose towards finish. do you think it was a driving error, or something weird happened with the car? also, which tires are you running again? i am trying to figure out what to run in 2025, but the "Stones just went way up in price...
I'd say driver error. What I think happened is that as soon as I came out of that Chicago box I started turning and loading up the left rear, then I attempted to simultaneously accelerate toward the finish while also adding more steering input....just ran out of grip. I think if I maintained steady throttle until I was pointed at the next element I would have been fine, but you know how it is when the finish line is in sight.... YEAH.....about that...🤬 But what choice do we really have, Yokes really need proper rim support with those soft sidewalls and the artist formerly known as STX has us with one hand behind out back with this 9" wheel 🐂 💩. After finishing 2nd at State Champs to a nationals level built FRS/BRZ I'm planning to actually build the car this year. We'll never be as light as the twins so might as well maximize grip......265/35/18 here I come
I'm short, sun visors don't matter
Even short people can use a mirror.... ;-)
You are a life saver! I'm restoring the interiori in my 245 and I've been a little depressed with the options for replacing the sunvisors. What's your plan for the headliner?
I was actually about to start reinstalling the headliner, that's WHY this sun visor situation became a priority. I also thought about running some wires for a homelink rearview mirror before I reinstall it so I could program the garage door into it instead of carrying the clicker... but I'll have to do a bit more research on that one. Short answer is the headliner will be black. The longer answer is; there's a video about that coming ......soon....?..?. Honestly I've probably got like a year or two worth of content filmed, but every time I have the chance to either edit/publish a video OR..... film more mods.... guess which one I choose? 😅
Deep fried colostomy bags is an aptly fitting description of the 240 sun visors 😂
Lets goo!!
We should do a video about adjusting door handles..... 😉
Do you know if this would work on a 740?
I can't say for certain , as I don't have a 7/9 series but I would imagine that it probably would. Are the 740 visors as poorly designed as the 245?
@ no they aren’t that bad. I’ll try it out though, thanks!
@mauriciom99 let me know how it goes!

Thanks! I ended up doing a 3" system with an upgraded turbo, I'm working on a similar video for that setup.

Appreciate it!!
Congrats on the great PAX finish! I have found that FAL420 fans have helped a bit - my OEM fans were starting to give up. I feel like your courses could use my taller S1* gearing, and my courses could use your shorter S2 gearing!
@@rx8matt Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised myself. I think the car is pretty dialed in for high speed courses now. However as I found out this weekend tight parking lot stuff is still a work in progress. I was fighting understeer and the results weren't nearly as impressive. Unfortunately no video for that event as my camera overheated 🥵 Are the FAL20 fans drop in replacements or do they replace the shroud as well? I suspect the fan engagement temp settings are part of the problem as it has no problem maintaining reasonable temps in daily driving, also water pump cavitation could be an issue on track. In grid it will typically sit between 200 - 210° and after a run it's between 215 - 221° with ambient temps of 95°. Yeah, wheel/tire selection also plays a role, I'm giving up a little top end for better acceleration with my tire choice, which combined with the stock S2 gearing is sometimes is sub-optimal on faster course layouts. At least with your S1 trans you could swap in a S2 diff and actually realize a benefit 😉
@@BushidoDriver The FAL420 is two fans and a shroud. it is close dimensionally to OEM but requires some custom mounting brackets and you need to do some custom wiring into the factory harness. I have a versatuner custom tune and have my fan activation temps set a little lower than stock, inline with the racing beat flash specs. i also use underdrive water pump and alternator pulleys. i am not seeing over about 200-205F these days at peak just after a run with ambient temps in the 90s. i am not allowed to swap the S2 diff in STX so tall gearing it is! Regarding understeer, you may already be doing as much as you can but trail braking and putting weight on the nose during initial turn-in helps fight understeer.
@@rx8matt Good to know! My car is still on the stock tune, so I'll definitely lower the fan activation temp when I get that done. Where did you get your underdrive pulleys? I think between those two things and the Koyo rad and lower temp oil cooler thermostats I already have, I should be good. I was considering the Mazmart lower temp thermostat, but the car will cruise at 183* with the stock thermostat in 8X* ambient temps, so I'm not sure that would actually help anything.... unless it flows more when open? I actually did try LFB on my last run for this course and it was like half a second faster but.... I hit 2 cones, so still not quite ready for prime time 🤣 As far as the parking lot courses I really think it's a setup issue. the car has been accidentally optimized for the type of course in this video, as that's at least half of my local season. We had a cool parking lot site for 3 events, but I was getting understeer there as well, it just didn't show up in the results because everyone else was in the same boat , lol. Going to another region where all the run is tight parking lot courses really highlights the deficiencies. My first thought is camber: This is the parking lot course I ran, This guy is a beast! STR ND Miata and he's consistently putting down times that are only bested by carts or SM evo's. But he's got to be running like -4 or -4.5* camber up front. I was getting understeer at the 35 second mark and again at the 42 second mark in this video: ua-cam.com/video/0cUjZVSICDc/v-deo.html My other thought is toe (out): There were a few cars that ran both events but the only one that ran faster than me at both was this K20 exocet on slicks. At the track he was barely faster, but part of the reason seems to be that the car required constant steering input just to keep it pointed in the right direction: ua-cam.com/video/tEbEDb5lipQ/v-deo.htmlsi=Uug9Lgg_WXaXYVhz However at the parking lot course what was a liability seems to have turned into a strength as it turned in well and didn't seem to have much if any understeer: ua-cam.com/video/lbdhv7xT0No/v-deo.htmlsi=R8evdHBMHseg9Kcr
@@BushidoDriver pulleys came from rx8performance. i run stock thermostats all around. it's my preference to see oil temps > 200F as oil is happiest with some temperature. once you start to beat on the car, the Tstats open up all the way anyways. regarding understeer, it matters where it is occuring. At corner entry, in my mind it's usually driver-induced and not keeping weight on the front end, or weird shock settings. mid-corner would be a combo of bars or springs and alignment. corner exit could also be shocks but is often rear swaybar or too much rear toe-in. you're on the right track: more front camber, perhaps 1/8" front toe out will help front end bite. i have gone back to running the OEM rear swaybar vs no rear swaybar, as i had lots of corner exit understeer with no rear bar. i essentially have no corner entry understeer as a trailbrake / brake turn heavily to keep weight where it's needed. 8k/5k springs, 32mm progress front bar full stiff, oem rear bar, -3.0 degrees camber all around, zero toe.
This is awesome!
Great finish too, your region looks pretty stiff. 11 deep in STX would be awesome
I WISH I could say that was a regular occurance; that is the deepest STX field I've ever seen in person 🤯, and easily 2X what I could expect to see at any local events. Our region is a little strange; it's long North to South (North FL + East coast of GA) so we have two seperate Solo chapters. This event was the one time everyone gets together to compete, plus the venue draws freelance talent from SC and GA.
Holy crap now that's what I call an autocross. Car looks dialed in. Course worker around the one minute mark looks sketchy though if you lost it in his direction! I can't quite throw my car around the way you can... I might need to disconnect the rear bar again
My first time running this course, but it was certainly enjoyable! Thanks, I guess that's a sure affect of half my local events being on a race track with autoX elements added; it wasn't quite so dialed when we ran a more typical course, lol. 😆 yeah, usually I let of a few backfires to warn the course workers... Funny you mention that, I tried disconnecting the rear bar in the past but it never felt right to me. I'm running the stock R3 rear bar currently.
Love the car number tribute and smooth shuffle steering. How did you mount the camera at that angle?
Thanks! The gloves have helped out a lot with that. Being that this is an R3 with no sunroof, the only place I can mount it is on the passenger rear pop out window. Just trying to make lemonade out of lemons, lol.
nice runs, i enjoy that road but would really love it if they shut it down for time trials. that would be sick. but good lane discipline.
