Today we are driving the new Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma was all new last year for 2024. The exterior design was updated, and the TRD Off Road model comes with a rugged design with a lot of plastic cladding. On the inside, you get a utilitarian interior design and plenty of storage. The back seat room is not amazing. The Tacoma has a solid rear axle, so the ride is going to be a little busy. The wind noise is going to be a little louder than normal. The all terrain tires don’t make a ton of noise, and you probably won’t notice them. Under the hood is a 2.4L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. That makes 278 horsepower and 317 pound feet of torque. All of that is mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission that is relatively quick and smooth. The exhaust note is very satisfying on the TRD Off Road model. There is plenty of power with the 4 cylinder, and it is much more refined. So, you shouldn’t be missing that old V6 too much. Overall, the Tacoma drives pretty well for a midsized pickup truck. It is very reliable, has good technology, and everything is very easy to use and figure out. If you are in the market for a midsized pickup truck, the Toyota Tacoma is an excellent choice.
