Trains and Boats and Planes - a jazz fusion version
The original of this was a song, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1965. Turned down by Gene Pitney, it was recorded by a variety of others, including Dionne Warwick.
My version here takes the earworm-catchy main lyric melody and improvises with it, on guitar and bass. This is an instrumental.
Influences on the improvisation must come from the other classic hit I have been singing with my daughter "Chain Reaction" by Diana Ross; and also Christmas carols, which are playing in the house this week.

Hello Stranger (Reggaetón Blues)
Переглядів 1899 годин тому
I recently became aware of the musical genre called Reggaetón. This is usually all-electronic, and sung/rapped in Spanish. I think the beat is very much like the African music of (for example) Issa Bagayogo. I decided to take a Reggaetón drum track as a starting point for a fusion with blues. So that's the reason for the bottleneck guitar on this track. The lyrics are the song by the Carter Fam...

This is a new low-fi reggae tune, with spoken words. I remember when I was in my twenties I didn't think I would ever be able to play anything that sounded like reggae. For some reason, I don't have that problem now, and I really enjoy the rock-steady groove. The guitars on this are all tracked using my Les Paul Studio, played through a Dunlop wah pedal, straight in to a Mesa Boogie valve amp, ...

A jazz rap about the 1950s - and related things. Mostly this is a series of 2-5-1 chords in the key of D. I had some problems with the visual clips - so please ignore the black bits, and keep listening (there is nothing wrong with the audio) : ) LYRICS I’ll sing you a song about the nineteen fifties; Beatniks, drive-ins, political shiftys. Postwar world with birth-rates booming; Bing Crosby cro...

Currently re-reading Tolkein's great epic, and that's why I thought of this title. this is jazzy rock; Based on a guitar line played on a Telecaster then reversed, bass added and guitar parts on top (the latter using my Mesa Boogie amp, fronted by Prince of Tone, Jan Ray and Strymon Blue Sky effects pedals).

This new jazz tune takes inspiration from the music of Erik Satie, the avant-garde French composer (1866-1925) and from the golden era of twentieth century jazz. There are fragments of Satie's "Gymnopedies" in the bass, now and then. The drums start out as funk-style but switch to a 4/4 jazz pattern half-way in. The guitar used for this is a Fender Telecaster - which is not as uncommon in jazz a...
Midnight Moses - my version of the song by Alex Harvey
Переглядів 721 день тому
This is more jazzy than the original from the Sensational Alex Harvey Band album "Framed". It's based on a funk drum track and an acoustic guitar foundation, that I think really transitions from rock into jazz at the three minute point. Thanks for listening! This comes out about half a day before my album "Songs from the North Tower", but is not on that collection; (created too late to make it ...

My version of Benny Golson's famous tune. This jazz sax player was a good friend of John Coltrane, going back to their schooldays. I have adapted the tune, so that I play the piano chords and the sax lines on electric guitar (A Hagstrom Jimmy this time). I also play the bass parts on my Music Man Stingray.

I decided to try some Fusion; Something like the style of the Mahavishnu Orchestra or Weather Report. Obviously I am not John McLaughlin, but still... Gear: Patrick Eggle Berlin; Mesa Boogie Studio 22 amp; Music Man Stingray bass, Markbass amp. The drum track is sampled from a UA-cam posting "5/4 Odd Time Drum Loop". The title is taken from a character in the TV series "Monkey" - based on the c...

Quite relaxing. Have you thought about doing an ASMR video?
That's disgusting! What if my daughter were to see it? Or the vicar!
@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 😂 it is weird. Not your video though. Nice tune!
So stone beats scissors, paper beat stone, scissors beat paper....so what beats a nuke? ....the pen?
Close! What beats a nuke is... a nuclear disarmament treaty!
@@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 sounds more comprehensive! 😂
Don't Rohan make jackets? Great tune.
Yes they do! They probably took the name from Tolkein too.
you started vlogging and didnt tell
Good luck and keep warm!
Ah; It's only minus 8 here so far. Tee-shirt weather!
@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 lovely
Epic!
Yes!! It is. Someone called Ian Brown just became a subscriber. Not sure if it is THAT Ian Brown...
Nah. It's not.
@@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 not THAT Ian brown presumably
This is such a great piece that I think it needs to be performed in the West End, and on Broadway; With a troupe of dancers/mime artists, naked but sprayed all over in silver. What do you think?
@@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 if that's what you want to do then go for it! Might need to break the plan down in manageable chunks though.
Hobby for boomers?...dude I'm a "boomer" and been playing guitar for 50 years and spent a good number of years on the road in multiple rock bands both cover bands and original music. It might be a hobby for noobs like you...lmao
Stephen; Thanks for commenting. And you are right of course. Just not sure that would be do-able nowadays. Any recordings or footage of bands you were in?
Great title!
You would not believe how many titles this has had before the final one. At least I can recognise good from cheesy (eventually) haha.
I definitely like this one.
Cheers!

Does that mean you like it?

I had to look up schoenberg...a non physicist! Great visuals to a chilled ambience.
I knew nothing about him also until about a month ago. ☺
And here I was, thinking it was about Dr. Zoidberg.
Yes, but he was less of a musical composer and more of a squid-being from outer space.
What in gods green earth did I just click on…?
Oh, just an ordinary Afro-rhythm rap poem lullaby jazz-rock thing. : )

Yes, listening to it again; They do. Deeper pitched and more confident than usual. There was no-one else in the building at the time, which helped. Plus, I have a cold and was feeling pissed off when I spoke the words ; )

Same here, that's a great track Dickran. Very 70s Hawkwindy!
Ooooo. I really like this one and I'm only 30 seconds in!
I think it should be a smash hit. Probably. : )
@@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 it's pretty awesome. Not sure what it reminded me of, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Franz Ferdinand probably a bit of all of them, but it's definitely it's own thing. I can imagine this being the background music to some atmospheric LA cop movie or something like that. This is definitely, one of my favourites. I shaazamed it three times, just in case it gets all the right algorithms going.

During the month of May 2024 I was doing a walk in aid of the RNLI and Dickran suggested dancing over the finish line as he knew that I liked to dance. Hence Long Distance RNLI Cha Cha Cha was born. I did Cha Cha over the finish line after having walked 125 miles (220km) during the month and raised a bit of money for the Lifeboat crews. So grateful thank to him and his take on a modern Cha Cha. You're right! Purfling is the decorative stuff. I should have said "kerfing".
@@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 easily done. I couldn't think of the right word myself 😁 I would called it a solid lining. Kerfing has cuts in it so it bends I think. I've taken many backs off and they never go back on properly.

Great! But what do you like about it? (may not be the same things I like about it).
The fan and reverb tank is factory on that amp, believe it or not. I owned one. The speaker is ALNICO (an aluminum and nickel alloy), not ceramic, that's why it's so much larger that most Celestion speakers. ALNICO speakers are actually good quality, just a bit heavier to carry around. It's voiced similarly to an AC series Vox, but two complete pre-amp channels that were switchable.
Thanks for the info! I have replaced the US-voltage fan with one the same size from an electrical store here. Enjoying the amp. : )
Great marketing! 😂
Apparently, yes!

@@dickranmarsupialmusic3184 oh no. Very messy.
Technics is the best turntable to get back into vinyl. You can always use the p2 is a Frisbee afterwards , just round off the edges.😮
Haha!
Rega blow Technics out of the air at every price point. Trust me I have 40 years experience of both at most price points. Bang for buck, paired with right cartridge the P2 is a wonderful turntable with easily achievable mods upgrades and tweaks. It works fine just out of the box. You can always use the Technics as a doorstop no need to round off the edges.
