Low volume recording nice sounding of #AlexChilton and the #Teenagefanclub band in #Scotland it's not in stereo at this point in #AlexChilton career got big money from BMG to do a live recoding he even toured Japan
@@irish66 Ok - if you knew anything about Alex Chilton and TFC you’d know that whilst there was a mutual admiration thing going on it wouldn’t have been so obvious to both set of folks as to JUST cover Big Star or old Box Tops/Alex Chilton solo material. I think there is footage of the playing September Gurls. Alex wouldn’t have wanted to do that and TFC, whilst being fans wouldn’t have wanted to be so gauche about it. If Alex Chilton wants to rock up and play some old soul or show tunes - then cool - that’s what they’ll do. From contemporary accounts when this meeting took place they barely talked about Big Star and just cracked on with working out what they were gonna play. Alex wasn’t solely tied to his past and whilst yes he got Big Star (sort of) together again (the Posies etc) he also played Box Tops shows and liked to perform old jazz standards.
Aww gosh ... please make it stop. UA-cam keeps serving me all these incredible Alex Chilton songs. ALEX IMPROVES EDDIE FLOYD. Didnt think it was possible! H/t to TF too! So tight!
Follow the spirit: 50s US blues to England, returned via the 60s British Invasion, reflected by 70s Big Star, bounced back via 90s Teenage Fan Club and spun into the vortex of this video :)
A shite Daryl Hall could still be a compliment (if we ignore Maneater and everything after): A shite Joan Oates would be a different prospect. However, Alex Chilton could kick them out the park (even with my Philly Soul Loving Heart). Strange choice for him and the Fannies but bravery is born of brilliance so do take the time to listen to what else he did before and right up to his death.
The arrangement of "My Heart Stood Still" is from the 1962 version by Bernadette Carroll, which takes the Rodgers and Hart standard and turns it into teen pop. Tip of the hat to the blogger at the web site adioslounge for pointing this out to me, plus also discussing some of the finer points of the original version of "Never Found Me a Girl".
I have only recently been listening to Teenage Fanclub and immediately I thought there was a link to Alex and Big Star. I imagine they were fans of his! I don't think much of this song though am a huge fan of both bands!
Well, ironic to me personally, because I've heard the song for 30 years and have never paid attn to the lyrics until Bill Cosby, and ironic in general because it's such a catchy pop innocent melody.
How in any possible way is “Crystal Blue Persuasion” a date rape song? Look up the lyrics, it’s just strait forward “love the world and everyone in it because there’s a new age dawning” psychedelic pop,…. You have to read in, ENTIRELY ON YOUR OWN anything like something that advocates “date rape”,….
Think it's 1993 [same year they played together in the 13th Note], TV show was "NB" on Scottish Television. Janice Forsyth I think introduced this (thinking back when it was actually on the telly, last time I saw this!)
PAULisDEADMANnumber9/peterpowerpop: Alex is playing a 1958 Gibson ES-225 w/ Bigsby tremolo tailpiece. The ES-135 was a somewhat similar model that was released in the early 1990s.
Alex would’ve been what, about 41 here? Only 18 years to go. That sucks. I’d have liked to have heard a 74 year old Alex coving his eclectic sets.
Alex was one of three acts whose taste in covers were as hip as mine.
Listen to the solo in Never found me a girl. Alex knows the power of a good tune!
Do it baby we aint got much tape left!

Wow. He was a great chordsmith and great tone
always dug this cat
Great talent but terrible song choices. His song were better
Have bout 40 Adkins, Chilton songs to record.
Gerard Loves bass playing is most excellent on this trickier than usual fair than TFC stuff!
Fuck the public
what a loss.
Alex had definitely heard the Teddy Bears' (Phil Spector) version of MHSS.
Teenage fanclub would probably rather have been singing Big Star numbers.
I doubt it man. I really doubt it. You're missing the point.
@@timhall3575 which is?

@@timhall3575 Thank you.
I remember watching this on scottish television, my favourite band with one of my heroes. A treasured memory!!!

Sick
Everyone comes to hear Big Star tunes and Alex tosses out Eddie Floyd and Rodgers and Hart covers!
Ross T and NOBODY should be going home disappointed with that, this is just lovely :)
I love it.
YES! thats the genius of Alex
Ross you are spot on
On the show when it went out there was a brief chat where Alex sang a little bit of our BMX Bandits song Disco Girl.
Dude. what?! 2fer.

Like a shite Daryl Hall...

Your comment is like a shite Fox news anchor...

Anybody know what chord he ends 'I've Never Found a Girl' on?
Alex liked his soul songs by the sound of it. I preferred his own power pop stuff than this

The arrangement sounds a lot like "Crystal blue persuasion", ironically, a date rape song
+Jerome Goverman How is that ironic?

No one like Alex, ever.
thats the truth
Such a sweetie. His personality always come across so clearly.
Total ledge
Agreed, the guy was so horribly underrated.

What guitar is Chilton playing here?
It's a Gibson ES-225 with a Bigsby tremolo arm.
El sueño del pibe!
nae much of a crowd in that night.
Sweet! It's really nice to see this. Thanks.
When Alex is singing songs he didn't write - yawn....
But he sings them with such tenderness and sincerity I love it.
Oh my god! Finally I found this video! Thank you so much @lx43vr!
Amazing.
Summit of the Gods.
Love Alex and TFC. Thanks for posting!
Good stuff, thanks for the upload
