Bioshock Fort Frolic Atrium ported to VR (W.I.P.)
Note: All assets in the map belong to 2K, I did not create them myself.
This is the atrium of the Fort Frolic level of the original Bioshock ported to Half Life: Alyx using the workshop modding tools.
The porting was done by rebuilding the geometry by hand based on the in game maps, extracting assets (models and textures) from Bioshock porting them into Source 2 and placing them by hand around the level.
This is still very much a work in progress. There are still some missing models and broken textures. There is also a lot of missing collision as well as most models aren't physics objects yet.
Quite frankly the looking at the comparison between the original game and the map in it's current state is kind of depressing.

A quick demonstration of how to extract game assets (textures and models) from Bioshock using Gildor's Umodel (www.gildor.org/) and a python script of mine. Humanity's history is filled with all kinds of periods that have been lost to time, who knows.... maybe we did have a settlement there once, but no signs of it existing remain, and even if they did the likelihood WE find it is almost none, we don't typically go down there and if we do it's for small expeditions that at most last a day

know i'm a very bit late almost a decade but if you look closely the guy helping the doctor is one of the models for the ducky with a minus the splicing and holster and gear, you can spot him better when paused at the final scene, this may lead that some of the constables in Persephone(specifically the unspliced white colored ones) are security guards of the labs or assistants to the doctors, and considering how rushed the development of B2 was i think the unspliced model of that guard was perhaps created for either a prologue where delta would be tested in either plasmid trials at fontaine or in the field while theses guards would watch over him or as the model used in this scene like how i think the unspliced ryan security ducky might have been the duckies delta would encounter in the cut kashmir prologue

YES! I've always thought Bioshock would be perfect for vr! How far is this project going to go? Just places to exist or will you make functioning things? Even if you don't add more, please release this.
I haven't fully decided yet. I chose this lobby mostly because it seemed like one of the simpler locations to start out with, but it isn't my favorite location. And since it's quite a slow process, I might just start on a location I like more, link them up and have it be kind of like a museum/showcase style map. At the moment I am working on skinning the pistol from HLA to be the revolver from BS. As for making it more functional, I would really like to but am very much still learning the engine so I don't know if/when I'd start working on that.
