Road trip to Denver (Mile-High City)
Переглядів 59Рік тому
In the summer of 2023, we took our first long road trip adventure to Colorado! We had the best time. Join us over the next few videos as we take you on our journey. We left at 3:30am from North MS, traveled through the corner of TN, and up through Missouri. We made a quick stop at The Original Bass Pro store in Springfield, MO. If you have never been there, it is also a must visit. Be sure and ...
Saxon's - Good eats in Mississippi
Переглядів 23Рік тому
Today, we had a nice lunch at Saxon's Drive In located in Houston, Mississippi. This small town, local owned restaurant did not disappoint! Saxon's has a great fenced in yard with games for kids. We visited at lunch, but the nighttime seen would be great too! Check out on the many milkshake options, but don't skip over the burger! If you are a local Mississippian, check their Facebook page to s...

Borden Creek Trail (Sipsey Wilderness)
Переглядів 155Рік тому
Just another day in the wilderness. We ventured out on a beautiful spring Saturday with the most perfect weather! It had rained several times in the previous week, which filled the Sipsey River and created some beautiful waterfalls! We parked at the Sipsey Picnic Area, which has a small fee, and also a restroom before you start on the trail. We opted for the Borden Creek Trail with a plan to ge...
Operation Christmas Child Processing Center

After more than a decade of packing Operations Christmas Child shoeboxes, we finally took the opportunity to serve at a processing center! It was amazing! We volunteered at the Processing Center in Atlanta, Georgia on Day 1! We had a blast. We were greeted with smiles from the parking lot to check in to the service lines. We met and served with a team of strangers who felt more like church fami...
Sipsey Wilderness Overnight - Deer Skull Falls and Wolfpen Falls Loop
Переглядів 1882 роки тому
We love the Sipsey Wilderness, perfect for day hikes and quick overnight hikes! You can hike for a few hours or a few days! We hiked to Eagle Creek and Deer Skull Falls for the first time last fall and saw this perfect campsite. We were excited to get to try it for an overnight hike! Camp was about a mile in with a quiet creek running beside it. Eagle Creek Falls is right past the campsite and ...

Thompson Trailhead, Sipsey Wilderness, Alabama Thanks for joining us on our FIRST overnight backpacking trip! We had the best time exploring the Sipsey Wilderness as a family. Tishomingo State Park (Part 2)
Переглядів 232 роки тому
Part 2 of 2 - Tishomingo State Park. During the same day, we hiked the Swinging Bridge trail at Tishomingo State Park. AllTrails labels this trail as 1.8 miles. We did take an extra turn to the Waterfall which added a little distance. (2.2 miles for us!) Overall this is an easy trail for all levels. Justin and I carried our packs just to get some extra practice! The boys just enjoyed the trail!...
Surviving with a 20lb pack - Tishomingo State Park (Part 1)
Переглядів 812 роки тому
Welcome to Tishomingo State Park. We hiked the CCC Camp Trail, which the park map shows as 3 miles. Our All Trails track marked it at 5.07 miles. This was our first hike carrying our weighted packs and giving the boys a chance to carry their packs during a hike. Our main goal was to ensure we could carry the weight, filter water, and use our camp stove. There were some down trees toward the end...
Backpacking anyone?

Just getting started in backpack hiking? Yep, us too! We are starting new adventures and need to try out our new gear. We are headed to a state park to practice sleeping in our tiny tent, using our sleep system, and trying out our new stove and water filter. Then we have to see if we can actually hike with a 20 pound back! But first, will it all fit? Come back soon for our hiking adventure! Tot...

      We are hoping to complete some part of that one soon. Alltrails shows that there is a waterfall on that loop also. Was it fairly easy to follow?

      @@mcmillenfamilylife there were a few times where I had to get the app out so I knew where to go since some of the trail intersections were at larger open areas with a campsite in the middle, but it wasn’t too bad! There are a few water falls on the Randolph to Thompson loop, the big one at the tree, a handful you hike past, and one you almost hike up!

    We used a Nike shoebox last year, do the items usually get switched over to one of those official Operation Christmas Child boxes?

    • @mcmillenfamilylife
      @mcmillenfamilylife Рік тому

      Any shoebox works great! Some people even wrap their shoebox with wrapping paper! We do not switch the boxes to a preprinted box. However, the pre-printed boxes can be ordered online (cardboard or plastic) if you would like. Let me know if you have any other questions, I enjoy sharing! www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/order-pre-printed-shoeboxes/

    so what happens to the items that are pulled from the boxes as inappropriate?

    • @mcmillenfamilylife
      @mcmillenfamilylife Рік тому

      Good morning! These items are donated to the local area. I am not actually sure how they choose where the donations go. I would imagine that the local Operation Christmas Child team works with the community to decide on area charities and organizations that can use the donations. Some of the items that can't be sent include toothpaste, any type of liquid (including paint), or toys that contain liquid. I hope this helps!

    So fun! I’m dying to go to a PC! I live in the Memphis area, though, and there isn’t one terribly close. I guess ATL would be our best bet. :) I do pack year-round, though. Can I ask…do you get to request to be an inspector? In other words, do you get to choose your “job” at the PC? Thanks!

    • @mcmillenfamilylife
      @mcmillenfamilylife Рік тому

      Yes! You need to go! I have been involved with shoeboxes for over a decade and this was my first time. I wish I hadn't waited. We are about the same distance from ATL as you are! Yes, when you arrive you are partnered with other volunteers (unless you take a large group that will fill the whole line). Our line leader meet us and walked us to our line and explained each role! Everyone could do any or all rolls. We swapped roles with others in our line just to get the full experience! My husband and I didn't know any of the other people when we arrived and I felt like we were close friends when we left! Let me know if you have any other questions, I love to share!
