Yes, in my opinion caused by the terrible start-stop system. Emission regulations made VW apply this system making the driving experience nerve wrecking and putting a heavy toll on the battery. Whilst approaching an t-section on the road for example, when the car hadn't even come to a full stop, it would shut down the engine. You can imagine a loss of power is incredibly annoying let alone dangerous, because sometimes you need to accelerate quickly. Usually car makers use some sort of delay before shutting down the engine. Nope, not VW because of their frantic efforts to 'minimalize' emissions. Absolutely retarded if you ask me. The solution? Pressing the off-button for the start-stop system every time I got into the car. Seems VW engineers did it on purpose as it was very accessible, next to the gear lever. I still loved the car though, but I decided to try something else after I replaced it.

@@nixxon Thanks for the reply. I have a 2017 240bhp version so the car is only 4.5 years. I can tell the battery is weakening already. It’s ok in warm weather but when it’s cold it sounds low and sometimes puts “start stop error” and some other funny things. I have a bluetooth battery monitor and i often get low cranking voltage messages. Also vcds registers “ insufficient voltage etc” That was last winter. All through the summer it was ok but this winter should be fun and a good test for it🤩. However it doesn’t have the same symptoms as yours. It never fails to start. Was the battety an AGM or EFB? Mine is AGM. I would have thought they would take the abuse. I put a tester on it. It’s rated 680A. It now reads approx 450A and 50% SOH. Having said that i know quite a few 10 year old start/stop Passats that are on their original battery.

@@Mickytdi well for starters you have the better engine than I had, I had the 1.6 liter engine - but I'm not sure if that should make any difference. In general I think diesels are not a good match for start-stop systems, they're designed to just keep running. I any case, the issues started when I had to quickly accelerate at the exact time the car wanted activated start-stop. What followed was some sort of hickup of the engine / transmission and the car went into limp-mode. What followed is what you see in the video. Dealer picked up the car and fixed everything with a software update and a new battery. I don't know what type of battery it was, but if you don't have any problems it seems you're blessed with a great car :) I would still recommend disabling start-stop unless you are certain you need to wait a bit longer, like say in front of a stop sign. @@nixxon I think the 2 litre engine would be even harder on the battery, i’d imagine. I suppose i can’t complain my car has 210,000km. It’s a lot of start stops for a battery. There was a video on here from an Australian chap who owned a B7 Passat DSG. His car would start perfectly in the mornings but when he’d come to a stop in traffic the car would turn off as normal but when restarting the same thing would happen as in your video. After about 6 or 7 attempts it would start. VW were scratching their heads and took a longtime to diagnose. A new battery fixed the problem in the end. Yes i’m enjoying the car, it’s remapped to 290bhp and with 4motion it’s quite fun 😀

@@Mickytdi 290bhp that's nothing to sneeze at! Broke my heart to hand in my 2017 B7 Business R-line but I got a fully electric Polestar 2 (416bp) in return, eased my heartache quite a bit. No complaints so far, reduced range can be a downside for some - before I could do 1000+ kms easy, now it's in the 300-400 km range. 1st world problems...
