Here at DoingOutdoors we’ll be on a journey turning a 13 acre plot of mixed woodland and pasture into a small farm. Hopefully producing enough food, water and energy to support our family and maybe make enough money selling the surplus to give up the day job! There are no mains services on the site so off grid systems will be our main focus, loads to do and lots to learn. We'll also be doing some fishing, shooting and bushcraft on the way.

10ft by 8ft = 80 square meters? Erm.....
I’m sure you can figure it out, everyone else did! 😉
I am Ethiopian if you have a spare job
love the care and love you show with even leading away so the other livestock dont hear or witness, love your accent to lol
Great to see another video from you Benji, the place looks a lot busier than when i last watched, lots to do! Are you aware of the recent change to the t&c planning law (part Q) You are permitted to develop a building (barn or agricultural) to a home, including a 4M extension to the rear. The bulding or just a hardstanding has to have been there or building commenced before 24th July 2023. Hope this helps you out with your wish to live on your farm!😊
Polytunel 👀
What’s the story with the barn? Looks like it’s come to a standstill?
It’s still a work in progress, my time is extremely limited at the moment and other things are taking priority. I have done a bit more on it since this video was recorded. Hoping to get some more done on it in the very near future.
Hi Benji, good to see you back on the vids, I'm looking to get some feeder pigs in the spring. What breed would you recommend for a newby, also any recommendations on fencing them would be appreciated. Keep up the great work. Basil 👍
I would say try and get some pure bread pigs or at least find some first cross pigs i.e the boar and the sow are both pure but not the same breed. The piglets from these parents should be good. The problem I have is that both of my sows are crosses bread from crosses. My boar is a pure pedigree old spot so I’m going to try and find a pedigree landrace to put him over, hopefully this cross will be productive. As for fencing, I find electric works really good but they will need training to it first. Other than that some standard stock fencing but with some barbed wire around the bottom on the inside about 200mm off the floor works a treat. Hope this helps.
I would pick the fatter one, who wants low fat bacon :) Great video.
😂 the one with less fat still had nearly 25mm fat on the chops! Definitely not low fat just less fat.
hello, my name is Gabi. I like what you do, I've been following you for a long time and I would like to meet you if possible. I like your farm, can I visit it?
The flavour from sheep fat is disgusting not good lamb is good
why do you wait 11 days before butchering?
You can not do this to animals
You absolutely can.
We have a Esse IH, bought it in 2014 and is a fantastic stove. I have converted it to use biomass pellets with a simple 5mm mesh that goes over the grate, works well and very warm. Our damper what you pull out has worn out and does seem difficult to get a replacement. These stoves are definitely worth it.
Too much distracting music.
Utilized your method for dispatching a chicken this morning and it went very smoothly. Thank You
Great watch. I don’t have any butchering skills, do you?
I hadn’t much experience before I started farming. I’ve done a few different animals now, it’s getting easier with practice. 👍🏻
This is excellent!
Thank you.
Good luck fella, you are an inspiration and deserve too succeed. Those who try will fair better than those who never tried. I’ll subscribe and enjoy watching your journey
Thank you for your kind words. 👍🏻
Somehow i thought the kill process would be more complicated.
Looks great! Looking at the soil in the onion patch though you could definitely do with a healthy layer of mulch! Maybe consider some cover cropping as well, can work wonders and saves on weeding! All the best 🙏
i love how caring your children are in your videos. they respect life, and understand. you’re doing an excellent job.
Great content brother. Thnks for the share😊
Thank you.
useless information didn't show or explain anything
I’m glad you liked it 👍🏻

Wow that base is awesome what type of beams are they id love to souse the same beams as they look perfect
They were something I pulled out of a skip whilst working on a building site, I’m sure they are purlins which are part of the structure of large warehouse type buildings. Hope this helps.
به به گوشت بره.
May I ask why refrigerate the meat after slaughter? How would you know it is a bad piece of meat, sick animal, or poisoned? How do you store the other cuts that you didnt cook? Did you freeze it? How long can it stay in the freezer before you cook it? Vacuum sealed correct? Im learning. Thank you for your video. Want to start a farm myself
Generally when they're that young the only thing you'd have to worry about is worms, sheep parasites don't cross with humans typically. You also generally don't have to worry about parasites so long as you're giving them a decent life. That means minerals, and more to eat than just grass. You at least need alfalfa or clover too. But like goats sheep will definitely get down on some trees and other browse as well. As far as refrigerating it's best to let them hang for a few days in a 35-45 °F ice box if you can typically that's not always possible if you don't have a spare. One parasites and bacteria, but it firms the meat up and makes processing easier. Back to the decent life you'll also get a way better quality animal giving the minerals better forage and supplementing w a little grain say 4-8 oz a day. Where I'm at between mineral, alfalfa and supplementary barely the costs in that are equal or less than the animal itself maybe $200 for a year khatadin generally will go for about $200 here at 6 months old, a bigger Cheviot or something similar to what this gentleman had for like $300+ It's definitely worth it in the quality of the product to go that extra mile but also to give the animal the best life it can have.
I can see now why farmers care for there animals so much it's not fair but that's life well filmed ❤.
Good work, keep planting. I'm trying to plant every November. Gets a bit repetitive after a while
I've spent many a cold winters day planting cell grown, currently 3000 done. Another 1100 in November.
Good work.
Rewatching some of your old videos, really enjoying the chicken ones. We spoke a while back about me buying some hatching eggs from you, do you have any social media i could message you on? I wouldnt mind buying some pork/beef too if you have any. Thanks. Declan.
Hi Declan, I’m glad you’re enjoying the chicken videos. I only have White Rock chickens that I’m breeding at the moment, good laying birds but not particularly big for the table. I might be able to sort a dozen out, I’m having problems with magpies steeling eggs at the moment. Drop me an email @ bigshotbenj@gmail.com and we can chat, I’ve lots of pork too
So glad i stumbled on your channel, you have the reality of my dreams! Love the music for this whizz round, it fits great, and I'm 58 (still feel like raving now and again 😂)
IS that gun 22lr? What kind ammo do you use?
Benj, any advice on finding broiler suppliers in the UK? Im having a real struggle and im considering just buying some large fowl instead.
I used Cyril Bason last year but in not sure if they’re still going, I do have details of another company. Once I find the paperwork I’ll send you a message.
@@doingoutdoors875 ok mate, thanks.
@@doingoutdoors875 Another question whilst I think about it, where did you source your Indian game eggs from? I'd like to buy some and either some Sasso or Hubbard, but I'm not having much luck, especially with the latter.
All the chemtrails are killing trees
Awesome man good work !
Great to see that ❤ I too want to grow my own lambs
Good vid. Need to turn dwn the music to hear you.
Good to hear from you again. 😁
Good to be back
How did your meat chickens come ?
Not very good, they didn’t grow any faster or bigger than any other breed or cross that I’ve grown before. Apart from the Ross Cobb birds that I grew last year which grew extremely fast
Missed ya vids benj
back on it now! New vids on the regular 🤞🏻
@@doingoutdoors875 sound. Me and tightpants need sumat to watch in the digs 😅
Yaaaaay your back.
👍🏻
Good to see you back on you tube, when you follow a channel you do wonder where they are and hope all’s well, life just gets in the way though I know. Best Andy.
Woo hop a new video. Good to see your still doing well
Really missing your videos mate, hows everything going? Declan
Thanks Declan, Everything is good. i have been out and done some recording this morning, should have a new video out later today.
