Hi there, my name is Jack Wang. I'm the founder of a VC-backed startup - KIRI Innovations. Okay, frankly I'm building this channel trying to promote my company, but there's nothing wrong I guess. Ever since 2018, we tried to make 3D scanning more affordable, I hope through this UA-cam channel you could experience how cool this technology could become.

I'd like to scan a car and later a semi truck.. do you think it could handle that?
full tutorial please. I bought the Kiri Engine, but I don't know how to animate it. Could you please help?
Thanks for the request sophani!! I'll put that on my to-do list haha, but in the meanwhile, I found this tutorial video that could potentially help you: ua-cam.com/video/7lAWhk_aVvc/v-deo.htmlsi=WZtxAiIusPaEo1LE
It’s good as long as you stay away from Scanner app (by developer Luni) They charged me for subscription fee without my knowledge (must have come with the free trial and charge after 7 day trap). I am pissed because there was no confirmation before they ‘steal’ my money. Also the app was still free version ‘AFTER’ they charged me for two months. Then I uninstalled it. Very unprofessional and unethical of Luni team. Shame on you!
Incredibly well researched, and well presented video! Exactly what I was looking for. Keep up the great work, you've got great quality!
Thank you so so much SharingtheRoad!! Feel free to let me know if you got any questions or concerns while trying out the apps :)
Hi, In a KIRI's video I see this: KIRI - POLYCAM - REALITYSCAN Support both iPhone & Android: V V V Can scan complex textures &geometries: V V V Can scan simple textures & geometries: V X X Can capture the bottom of object: V V X Generate PBR: V X X Generate Quad Mesh: V X X Generate high poly counts (200k+): V X V What do you think about that?
Yes, your summary is very accurate daskydesign :) The comparison chart you wrote looks great!
@@jackisbuildingkiri2997 Hi Jack, thanks for reply me. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Can scan simple textures & geometries". Do you mean smooth (flat) surfaces without textures... via the Gaussian method? Because from what I understood in your conference at the GDK Talk, unfortunately it only allows results that are not yet usable.. or am I wrong?
@@daskydesign846 Thanks for reply dasky :) What I meant by "simple textures & geometries" is that Photogrammetry can't scan objects that don't have enough Features Points, I actually make an explanation on what the Features Points are in this short video: ua-cam.com/users/shortsa2quTyFNB2U?si=NUd9EG6rut2kGKlo But compared to Photogrammetry method, 3D Gaussian Splatting method doesn't reply so much on the object's Features Points, that's why 3D Gaussian Splatting can scan a variety number of different objects regardless of their features points
@@jackisbuildingkiri2997 Hi Jack, thanks for replying. I have to say that in this video you say that Gaussian Splatting is not yet usable in 3D production, right? ua-cam.com/video/zTwHmxfKvOs/v-deo.html
@@daskydesign846 Correct, but since my speak in last GDC, 3DGS has gotten way advanced! KIRI Engine is going to launch a major update in the next two weeks to enhance the 3DGS to Mesh features, and we've also open-sourced a 3DGS addon for Blender, here is the link to the addon: github.com/Kiri-Innovation/3dgs-render-blender-addon
Please add turntable feature!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Actually we now do have turntable feature :DDDD When you use the Photo Scan mode, the turntable feature is the third tab next to the "Auto Capture mode"
Thank you, I am new to this. But I will try Kiri Engine Pro with my drones. Maybe I can make a biz out of that.
I found out today that it has a limit of 300 pictures. So already it does not fit my needs. And the export process was not good. In Safari it failed. In Firefox it went okay. And the 3D modell is nearly impossible to rotate as you want.

Can Kiri Engine scan human body
Actually, I just made this tutorial video on how to properly scan human head with KIRI Engine, check it out :) ua-cam.com/video/bqN5IWSm2zE/v-deo.htmlsi=vheqOeJstk_NwBVL
So I have been trying to make this app work for a long time and it never gives decent results. I would say that a device made for 3d scanning is going to be much better than an iffy phone app.
Thanks for the comment! Like I indicated in the comparison video, it really depends on what type of objects you were trying to 3D scan :) If it's an object with a lot of features point (for example, a tree stump or a rock) the end result from a 3D scanner app is pretty much the same from a 3D scanner hardware. But if the object is in pure color, 3D scanner will always do better job :)

Good
Thank you :)
Somehow, without watching the video, I know KIri engine is the best 🤣
Any app that is over rated and bragged about end up charging you arm and leg later is a total scam. They say its free but then they charge you. Free means its free $00 dollar charge what so ever. but to claim its free then people find out they are getting charged for the features of the app its not a decent way to do bussines. I would rather see developers charge for their apps up front so when you buy it its yours and you get free updates and you don't have to worry about it the problem is you are under the mercy of the developer if something happens to him tomorrow your app is useless who is gonna update it for him? and who is gonna refund you? so all these apps are there while the developer is around once the developer is no longer around you are toasted. But a real product dose not need a developer and it stays with you for ever and its yours you own it you paid for it take it out and use it when ever you want without scratching your head if you can afford a membership or yearly payment or pay for extra features what ever. It would be nice to see the same results of the app in a 3rd print scanning tool or maybe a scan tool that uses such app that would get updated frequently by well trusted long term company thats been around for long time knowing its not going any where.
In under 10 minutes from downloading your product, I had an .stl file in Aspire that I could machine with my CNC. Immediately I recognized the value and ordered the full $50 pro version with Lidar. Your enthusiasm is infectious! I wish the very best for you!
I love your enthusiasm. I want to learn to 3D scan and make custom parts for my car. 🚙

How can I activate the program?
Hi there! You can just download KIRI Engine app on your App Store or Play Store :)
Dude nice video, how often have you used your scanner before you made this video? Are you feeling confident enough to compare your tool with different software where you knowledge might be limited to how it operates? And seeing how you do photogrammetry while you cast shadows on your object. You should state that this is meant as advertising and not valuable comparison. Have you meassured both results? Does kiri engine support any april tag or marker regocbition so that scale can be applied directly to the model?
Thanks for the comment man! Actually, KIRI started as a structured light 3D scanner company, so we are quite familiar with the technology and how it operates. I don't see why this isn't a valuable comparison, but one thing I regretted is that I didn't get to compare the results with the scanner spray put on, because I recently tried with the scanner spray it made photogrammetry look really no difference with structured light scanner, so I might do another video showing the results with the scanner spray on
@@jackisbuildingkiri2997 it is a use case question, if you scan for 3d rendering and putting things into blender scenes it might compare. If you scan for engineering it would have been a valuable comparison to get realworld meassures and compare them to the results. I havent used kiri engine yet for photogrammetry, i am a metashape user, i came across the software yesterday and looked at your video. I personally got a negative impression from it im sorry to say. I wish it would habe been different, but iam not your target market, to me it felt unprofessional.
3D Zephyr Metashape Meshroom etc are what professionals use. Not this iphone bullshit.
Lidar doesn’t need light so works in the dark.
100% correct! And since it's been a while when I made this video, KIRI Engine now supports LiDAR scan too, check out this new video: ua-cam.com/video/wyhDffq1_SA/v-deo.htmlsi=R_z8fEQha8f4ktRr
But using a cellphone isn’t what you want to use anyway because your textures will be shit.
Thanks for the comment man, I wouldn't say it's 100% correct. I've seen people using 3D scanner apps for serious game dev and VFX stuff. You won't believe how much our modern smartphone can do. But you can always use the KIRI Engine on web browsers to upload high quality DSLR images or the photoset from photogrammetry rigs for high quality 3D reconstruction

Which one works better on a larger scale, like buildings or parking lots?
Is once measured and calculated scale ratio of a model scanned by photogramerty applicable for all the other scans made by the same smartphone in order to get the exact dimensions?
What a creeper
Regarding the the last point, shouldn't the Lidar-Sensor provide all the data required for accurate scaling of the scan? If not/for devices without Lidar, would it be possible to implement the use of reference objects of known dimensions? Dimensional accuracy would be a huge selling point in my opinion
非常优秀的软件
I actually WANT less face counts. Can the apps reduce amount of detail?
Oh absolutely! Actually, when you export the 3D model, the exported folder will automatically include a low-poly model at 15k face counts. If you need lower face counts, with the Advanced Export option you can manually adjust the poly count percentage! And BTW, no matter how low the poly counts are, the texture are always in 4k with normal map
I can't seem to get a black metal logo to scan no matter what I do, please help
Hey SmockPhotography! Thanks for the question :) because the black metal object is shiny and dark, it's pretty hard to scan unprepared no matter is you are using KIRI Engine or Revopoint 3D scanners. So to scan a black metal logo, to get the best result, you need to properly prepare it by applying a layer of scanner spray. You can find some of these scanner sprayers here: www.amazon.com/3DTOOLS-Revopoint-Scanners-Reflective-Transparent/dp/B0D56LWK22/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1EN5FWF51UISD&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.264MFboiQnqyTs9_H8--VokvNpGwxcahb7fCcDrFqIJgMNRrIV65e1afrU4cRq6ygIsVppexrnH7lTord-WVpqQRmUID066TNsx19fAOqBokhQpw3FaOeTeDwB7p2iqEjMDUSY-9gAFLQu6i8YCN5T220972qEI0uDsE4cItoQOwhkXEtShWP3fU_ShmD5FVUrJ7TavEvWqCrFiTUb_Ru4CAy8z6gB1_kXiZLOvRfxebbmWvK2mcKizcjVkxK6s2St4VayneTL7I43YBuNC-DWhF0eP93egKMGrCFSayGYI.LYTmyeYA-fzmIy-PyqCvc2rqLJCUgBfAElGRLYtb0lw&dib_tag=se&keywords=scanner+spray&qid=1724643250&sprefix=scanner+sp%2Caps%2C499&sr=8-3 Once you get these sprays, both KIRI Engine and Revopoint should work pretty good. I need a rough scan of my body is it possible to get for a price that is accurate to scale? Have access to both samsung s24 / iphone 15 pro max.
Hey NFTwizardz! Yes, it is definitely possible. I'm actually making a complete tutorial video on how to properly scan heads and body using KIRI Engine. Stay Tuned :)
UPDATE. I received feedback directly from the company. Apparently i was wrong. Please read their reply. I did do a scan it looked really good. The free part is not completely honest and to say the least it is misleading. True you scan for free, you can upload to their server up to 3 scans per week. But the free version only lets you export a total of three files to your slicer. So what good is it to have a bunch of scanned files you can’t export to print. Oh you can export more if you pay $2.99 per month.
Hi Brad! Thank you for the comment, and I really appreciate you share your thoughts about KIRI Engine, but unfortunately the information you provided wasn't correct :( The free plan in KIRI Engine allows you to upload as many 3D scans as you want without limit, but you can export 3 scans PER WEEK; if you used up all three exports this week, you can just wait until next week, and you'll get another three free exports. I hope these info will cheer you up but feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns :)
My apologies for not understanding what it meant. I suggest adding the three weekly export. I will remove my comment. Since Im wrong i dont want discourage others. Thank for nice reply and correction.
@@BradRemillard Thank you so much Brad! But you don't have to delete the comment, you know :) Anyways, thank you so much for the understanding, let me know if you have any other questions or concerns ;)
I do 3D printing. What is the quality of stl file after converting scan file to making a 3d printable file. Even on the pro version.
@@BradRemillard Great question! That actually depends on what object you are trying to scan, if the object has enough features point, the straight result is even comparable with some professional 3D scanners, take a look at this viral Reddit post: www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/16l4kxw/3d_scanned_with_kiri_engine_on_an_iphone_14_pro/ But if the object doesn't have enough features points, the surface might be rough for 3D printing, in which case you need to clean up the 3D model using Zbrush or Blender. I'm actually making another tutorial video to show how to clean up 3D scans super easy :)
how is good on scanning THIN, SMall Convex/concurve objects....vintage 80s he man 2 peice armor each part is 2mm of wall thickness, has pins and hinges also at 2x2mm and very convex and concuve
hey CanadienMikey! Thanks for the question! It actually depends on whether the armour is shiny. If the armor is shiny, you need to prepare it to make it not shinny (e.g. put on scan spray), then both KIRI Engine and Revopoing should work. Feel free to try out KIRI Engine first because it's free to try anyways, if it doesn't fulfill your needs, then an actual 3D scanner might be a better option in your case :)

I believe your software can successfully scan, but I'm not sure if you process the results from the mobile app. Before buying the scanner, I thought about using my phone to scan instead. But honestly, I couldn't get any decent results-there were huge errors. That's why I ended up getting the scanner to get the results I wanted.
cina scammer!
I tried Kiri about couple months ago, but it didn’t work well for me. I switched to Polycam, which was a bit better but still disappointing. There is no problem with the texture, but I'm more interested in the accuracy of the model.
Hi Jack, good video, thank you. I was just looking at purchasing a Revopoint for doing some scanning on a vintage motocross bike I'm building. Now this video has given me some more thought. Assuming I'm using an Android Pixel 7 phone, would Kiri be able to scan a fuel tank for reverse engineering and also printing for an electric conversion to the bike? I would like to get some accurate dimensions for various fixing/mounting points. Would the file need to be transferred to different software. If so, I'd be looking at something intuitive, as this is all new tech to myself. With regards to costs and upgrades, is there a 1 off fee or is it pay per scan if I was looking at more features as a hobby user. On a side note for your business model, I like to pay for Pro level Apps at the point of purchase, with no re-newable license fee. However, still happy to pay for upgrades if needed. Thank you in advance for any answers and advice. Regards, Dale
Hey Dale! Thank you so much for the comment! I'm glad that my video provided some extra info for your decision :) Great questions, let's answer them: 1. The ability to scan a fuel tank for reverse engineering: The answer is yes! However, to make an accurate scan with the KIRI Engine, you need to prepare the tank before photo-scanning it. You can buy a scanner spray that can make the surface less reflective, then use some baby power (or chalk power or anything that you can put on the top to increase feature points). Once you've done that preparation, you are ready to make super accurate 3D scans with just your Pixel 7. 2. Measurement: Although the relativity is all there, there is no real-world scale straight out of photo scanning. But it's not an issue, you can manually scale the model to real-world size in other 3D software such as Fusion360, here is a video on UA-cam that teaches you how to scale a photo-scanned model: ua-cam.com/video/axdPIc6FqQU/v-deo.htmlsi=Mx1LyUH_J_ELMgH_&t=316 3. Pricing: Unfortunately, KIRI Engine doesn't have one-off purchase plan. The reason for that is KIRI Engine uses servers on the cloud for processing 3D scans, it's financially not feasible to just charge once but the server cost is being accumulated. However, having said that. I'm almost certain that you can achieve accurate 3D scanning of your bike's fuel tank without having to become a paid user, our free features should be sufficient for your need. Just remember to prepare the object before going for a photo scanning; If you did need a paid plan, although it doesn't have a one-off purchase option, you can actually become a subbed user for a month for only 15USD, then cancel it whenever you finished the project, this way it's much cheaper and efficient than buying a physical 3D scanner :) Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to answer more :)
@@jackisbuildingkiri2997 , thank you for the informed reply. I have scanned the tank with zero prep after work this afternoon, as we had nice weather to do it outdoors. The result and level of detail is fantastic and way above what I was expecting, considering no prep was done. I'm going to try it again tomorrow, but take the photos with a Canon EOS200D for comparison. I am absolutely blown away by how good this app is, considering that was my first play with it. Fair play to you, you have developed an outstanding product. I will look at the link for the software that you have recommended this evening. Again, thank you 😁👍
Does this works for 3D printing? (If I want to print a face or body)
Hey~ Yes, you can :) In KIRI Engine, you can actually export the 3D model in STL format, which is perfect for 3D printing! But I do wanna point out that when scanning a person, because the person would be moving slightly, KIRI Engine can be hard to use to scan not-stationary objects. But feel free to try it out :)
Nice video! Have you reviewed Canvas or other scanners specifically made for scanning architecture? - I am an architect and interested in Polycam and Canvas and other scanners that scan to CAD and BIM and Pointcloud. Also the Polycam feature of creating the walls and furniture is really nice. I have not checked if there are other apps like Canvas and Polycam that scan to BIM. I will have a look at a the others you mention and see if they have a scan Architecture feature.
Hi Ryan! Thank you so much for the comment! The feature of creating walls and furnitures are called RoomScan, this feature is available on both KIRI Engine and Polycam. On KIRI Engine, RoomScan is completely free :)
Holy heck, this is such a good video and about as unbiased as you can get considering it's from the founder and CEO of KIRI Engine. KIRI Engine looks phenomenal and I'm excited to play around with it a lot more. I'm a but upset I gave away my iPad Pro with LIDAR to a friend who needed something for college a while back so I can't use the LIDAR enhanced meshing, but the other features seem to make up for it in other ways. Also, Jack, I love your enthusiasm and energy. You're a shining beacon of positivity it's enlightening and contagious. Please keep being you.
Hey MasterThief!! Thank you so much for the kind words :) Haha, yeah LiDAR scan in KIRI Engine is gorgeous. But in terms of the final 3D scan result, sometimes photogrammetry will produce better mesh details :) So don't be too frustrated even if the iPad Pro isn't around. Hey, feel free to try it out and let me know how it goes :)

Hey Adrian!! Thank you so much for the comment! First of all, nice car!!! I can clearly guess why you'd need a 3D scanner like Kinect (I was super into cars, too :D). Believe it or not, Kinect was also my first 3D scanner and I hated it so much lol. That's exactly why I wanted to make KIRI Engine because back then, the only affordable option was this useless sensor from my Xbox :( So I wanted to make 3D scanning affordable and accessible to more people like me. Feel free to let me know if you got any questions or concerns when trying out KIRI Engine and other 3D scanner apps :)
Thank you for the video and the app. How do I get the scan into CAD ( Solidworks) and generate a solid model from the scan?
Hey Zaviekucer! Thanks for the comment, I actually found a pretty good video on how to use a 3D scan model on Solidworks here: ua-cam.com/video/dD-wLDRCX6E/v-deo.htmlsi=vPWtbRBCCCNcrbJh
