I'm just here to talk about things I find interesting in Scottish Football.
We Need To Talk About Pitches
A year ago, I made my first video about why plastic pitches should be allowed in the Scottish Premiership. Since then, we have seen a ban be put in place, a legal challenge, Dundee have Dens Park turn into a swimming pool, and Bonnyrigg be given a 6 point deduction due to the quality of their grass pitch. So in this video I'll be looking into these issues and coming up with a common sense solution, if there is one that is.

When Raith Shocked Scotland

30 years ago, second tier Raith Rovers would defeat Celtic in the League Cup final, seeing the club qualify for Europe for the first time in the clubs history. As it is an important anniversary for the only major honour the club I support has won, it makes sense that I do a deep dive on the cup run as a whole. I'm joined by Les, Graeme and John of the Oh No No No Podcast as we take a look into ...
Largest Towns Without An SPFL Side
Переглядів 41 тис.Місяць тому
Cities and large towns tend to have successful teams. They will have a larger catchment area for a fanbase, bringing in more money, which allows the club to sign better players. That isn't always the case however as there are many large towns that don't have teams in the top 4 divisions of Scottish football so in this video, I go through the 10 largest settlements without an SPFL side. All imag...
What Is Going On At Inverness Caledonian Thistle?

At the end of August, it sounded as if Inverness had hopes for the future. We're now at the end of October, and instead of hope, the club are now in administration, a former CEO is suing the club, all the dodgy dealings are coming out, it just keep getting worse for the Highland club. So in this video, I look into what has been a never ending downward spiral in what is an update on the previous...

So what is going on? That's why in this video I look at what has been going on both on and off t...

We Need To Talk About Inverness Caledonian Thistle… Again

At the beginning of the summer I made a video talking about how Inverness Caledonian Thistle went from a highland league merger to European football then back down to league 1. In it I mentioned the financial difficulties the club would be facing over the summer and my word have they had issues. So in this video I go over what has been a tumultuous summer for the highland club. Stuart Findlay A...
Rating SPFL Kits 2024/25

With football commercialisation comes new kits every year. People wear these going to games, on holiday, or just whenever they feel like it. It's important then that kits actually look good so that people will want to wear them and that's what I am judging in this video, as I go through every new kit in the SPFL and give them a grade. *Dunfermline released their third kit after I finished makin...

Scotland have once again failed to get out of the group stage at a major tournament. Wtf how does the look of the pitches come into it. Fanny .
Dens is f ucking immaculate
It is now I’ll give them that, bit of a farce last season though
@CallumBlyth only farce was having to pay the zombies compo. 2 games were very much playable.....one called off when police were advising to stay indoors. Research before spouting
Only watched to see wishy
@@adampark4238 sorry to disappoint
Please note that mass immigration = more cars, less parks, lower wages, higher cost of living.
Football clubs really should get more local / native talent. Many good different reasons for this.
100+ miles is a really long way
Thanks for the video. See if you can adjust your mic settings. Lack of bass / mids and sounds kind of flat.
Bonnyriggs pitch is utter jobby. I’ve honestly played on better Sunday league pitches resembling the dead marshes from lord of the rings
Good effort on this video mate
Thanks for making these. Enjoying from Houston Texas.
Plastic pitches should rightly be taken away in the top leagues in the country, it might make financial sense but the look horrible and look disgusting on live tv
I think,in Scotland at least, artifical pitches works. Scottish weather is so unpredictable and to make clubs viable a regular revenue stream is a must.
Im a celtic fan and remember this game like it was yesterday... Love hearing the guys stories of the day/match.. Brilliant stuff... 👏👏👌
@@paulclarke4776 glad I can cross the divide
continually mad that scottish football plays when the grass doesn't grow much, if at all. summer football should be brought it, wgaf about european football, that only affacts a couple of teams for a couple of weeks..
The major advantage of summer football, pints in the sun
"Football must only be played on grass" Tell that to 8 year old me, skinning my knees time and time again on red ash.
Many school trousers were ripped on the concrete/hockey pitches
Good editing and a good watch.😮 Was very good to hear your passion on Raith rover’s.😅 My thoughts on artificial pitches is, they can be good knowing a match will definitely be on and help fans travel to a match. Thank you Callum. i will hopefully ask a question or two for your question and answer before Christmas:)
7:22 When will Cammy get cancelled 🤔😂
I’ll need to punch my producer first who is *checks notes* myself
You're doing really good work, brother. That said, I hope we give Raith a doing tomorrow 😂
Thank you, I hope we pump youse
@@CallumBlyth You making the journey down?
Nah cannae make it, should make it for the cup game even if it means going to Grangemouth for 12 on a Sunday
@CallumBlyth My dad stays in Grangemouth, so that patter isn't the sick burn you think it is haha. Be sure to give me a shout in January then, as there's a pint with your name on it 🍺 🍻 Oh aye and COYB.
I give up with football
I swear that it has only rangers and celtic that have complained about it but they get what ever they want so
@@KillieYT Aberdeen in 2012 had the chance to change the voting system but nooooooo
I remember Gerrard moaning about the artificial pitch at Hamilton. Then Hamilton won at Ibrox.

I'm just here for Dutch Tulip Facts
You mean there’s people who aren’t here for that?
16:52 hahahahaha yes its all bullshit when its your money getting shared. Also love how you snuck the bridge gag in there, well played.
I live for the chaos
Green Brigade: Oh shite no not like that
Its not called the self preservation league for nothing, and quality of the pitches has nothing to do with this decision. The state of most grass pitches come January and February prove that.
like Artifical pitches
I’m genuinely surprised Caley Thistle didn’t get one as a way for the club to earn revenue considering recent events but I suppose that would have been a somewhat sensible idea and that’s not what Scot Gardiner is exactly known for
I mean, most Prem or recently Prem clubs would be playing on some form of plastic pitches, at least in indoor training, so it's not like there's a major competitive advantage. If half of all hockey teams in the UK had plastic pitches and the other half didn't there'd be a much greater competitive disadvantage because hockey strategy changes much more based on the playing service
Even clubs reserve and woman’s teams play on artificial pitches, it’s weird that it’s fine for them but not for the first teams
I’m curious how the hybrid surfaces work, I’ve never heard of this before
It’s natural grass but they “stitch” artificial fibres into the turf
It's a "No!" from me for any kind of "fake grass" (i.e., synthetic) pitches. The weird bounces, the pinging of soft passes way beyond where they should go, and the reluctance of anybody to commit to sliding tackles all do nothing but stifle (and ultimately damage) the game. Results of games on those surfaces are more random than those played on grass! No problem if teams want to train on those surfaces, but for the real matches, gie's grass!
Why would everyone train on them if they were as defective as you describe? They'd be a worthless medium to train on. I've seen a lot of football on natural and artificial pitches and frankly it makes absolutely no difference to my enjoyment of the game what the surface is.
@@RW-nr6bh Why does everyone train on them? Simple: easy to maintain, and for many clubs, hiring out their pitch. In other words, trying to save money. The Scottish top flight have decided to ban artificial pitches..., for what reason, do you think?
Wake up babe, Callum just posted a new Scottish football video
The most important thing to wake up for in my unbiased opinion
Artifical pitches are bad for players health in terms of liagment damaged but its a massive revenue boost for smaller clubs who can rent out the pitches and earn more. I think the hybrid pitches might be the way forward but that depends on the spfl allowing them
I believe hybrid pitches are in place at Celtic and a number of other top flight clubs and are probably the ideal method but it’s simply unaffordable for a vast majority of clubs
Giving the top flights history of gatekeeping it's not a good look. Would be funny if Falkirk didn't get up again mind you 🤣🤣
@CallumBlyth yeah 100%, imo id the spfl want to demand clubs use certain pitches to be in the football league they can fund it all themselves but we know they wont pull a penny out their pockets 🤣
Banning stuff for patter is incredibly petty and I’m here for it
There are plenty of FieldTurf pitches in use at MLS stadia in North America. The injury rate is no different compared with other leagues. Over the past decade, artificial and hybrid surfaces have improved by leaps-and-bounds.
In fairness Meadowbank is a "sports centre" and is not trying to be a "stadium". Edinburgh already has three stadia for people that want to watch big games. I'm in favour of Edinburgh having a quality sports facility rather than Meadowbank being another stadium. It does what it sets out to without compromising on it's core mission ...and it's got no less than 3 outdoor football pitches which Edinburgh has no shortage of.
Yeah the stadium aspect is poor but it does look like a really good sports centre which ultimately its main purpose is to
obviously there will be no grangemouth, they have an spfl team that play in the championship
VALE OF LEVEN MENTIONED!!! 👹👹👹👹👹👹
Being from Shetland, i have always been gutted that Shetland cannot enter a team into the SPFL league system. This is mainly due to the financial implications. Recently Guernsey joined the english pyramid system but had to commit to the cost of paying for the travel of the travelling team. This is something that would probably also be required by the spfl if shetland were to apply to enter the pyramid system in some form, most likely North Caledonian or Highland league. Orkney do compete in the NC league but the only competition Shetland enter is the Island games
@@malcomkumar I think having a representative team for both Shetland and the Western Isles in the league would bring great if it becomes feasible
I mean the three towns & Irvine are no great surprise, 90% of the North Ayrshire population shares 3 brain cells between them & one can tell the point of origin of a denizen by the directions in which their eyes point in a resting state. But in all seriousness the reality is between Ayr & Killie, a third full time professional team wouldn't be viable, it's barely viable for those two!
Abernocky.
Great vid mate
How about the top ten smallest population teams in the Scottish top four leagues
East Lothian , the only burgh of Scotland not to have a football team in any of the leagues
@@nickwatson2167 The borders don’t have an SPFL team either

Would Alfie make a 45 minute video documenting how a second tier side won a major trophy against one of that nations biggest clubs? He probably would actually, especially if it was Hull
@@CallumBlyth Exactly :))
As a Raith fan, I've always wonder about that Bayern Munich game and that 1-0 score line at halftime, I have thought it has been one of the great 'what if' stories if Raith had somehow managed to beat them has always lived rent free in my head. Actually, you should do a video of alternate history moments of Scottish football which would be good to see.
There’s definitely some sliding door moments that could be looked at
@CallumBlyth Oh yes, what if Hearts won the title in 1986 or 2006 maybe? What if Dundee United won the UEFA Cup in 1987? What if Rangers hadn't gone under in 2012 or what if Celtic HAD gone under in 1994 or what if Wallace Mercer had merged Hearts and Hibs in 1990? Honestly it all writes itself and that's not including the National team such as what if Billy Bremner had scored against Brazil in 1974, what if Scotland had gone to the World Cup in 1950 or qualified in 1966. Seriously, there is potential for a video or videos on the matter.
Thanks Callum - amazing memories!!!
I’d imagine they were, beating Rangers at Easter Road is probably the closest we’ve got to that feeling since
Yet again, the city with the parliament and the head of state and most of the government buildings is the capital, whether its officially designated in law or not. The Swiss even call Bern the 'federal city' FFS.
Not a Raith Rovers fan but thoroughly enjoyed this....the delight on all your faces was obvious 😁
Absolutely, it’s those moments we live for as football fans
