Any cornice-style valance from the cornice-style valance kit will work. Cornice styles include scalloped, arched, and straight layered panels. The lambrequin styles will also work. Lambrequin side panels can be adjusted shorter to provide a standard cornice look. The arched and straight styles are best for shortening. All cornice or lambrequin panels can also be adjusted different widths to best fit your window. The kits all include a personal project consultation, so I will be happy to assist with sizing and style suggestions once I see a picture of your window!

They are made using no-sew seam tape. Pre-wash your fabric before making the valance and make sure to use washable fabric to make the panels.

Any 100% cotton fabric works great! Drapery lining is not required. An affordable option is Muslin fabric.

Wow that all sounds amazing! I would suggest using a heavier fabric to create extra stiffness and then add a heavy lining as well. The edge trim will also add weight to the panels. Another trick is to add a pocket to the lower inside edge of the side panels then slip in a drapery weight. Use the included fusible backing with lining for the best results. The panels will be stiff and easy to cut out, but you may need to sew the rod pocket across the bottom edge to secure as it may be difficult to fuse through the heavy layers. Yes, the fabric I'll be using is rather thick upholstery fabric for the most part which I think will be absolutely gorgeous for the Lambrequin style and nice and firm. And I will be adding heavier trim and tassels as opposed to just braid or gimp for a more formal look so the added weight should be sufficient. I'm combing the internet to find a nice stiff lining for the Lambrequins and if I have any issues with it not sticking because of the thickness, I have a hot glue gun for extra back up! I know I'm pushing the envelope a bit but I think it will work great! I did order a beautiful silky lining for the jabots in a nice contrast colour because it's visible. I also found a gorgeous leopard fabric! I'm not sure what to do with it and where but I think it will be fabulous! And because I LOVE your products SO MUCH, I just ordered the whole multiple style kit from your website, so I can maybe play around with different combinations depending on the room, I have several windows I need to do, I'm so excited to get started!! And I may make a few for friends and family! I had no idea you also have children's kits...I may buy one of those too for a baby in the family! They are so cute!! I think you may be guessed this already but decadent draperies are a bit of an obsession of mine! lol As soon as I get my lining I'll be off to the races and will be very happy to share my pictures with you. I'll see how I can add weights at the bottom but I may not need them. I will definitely give you a shout if I run into any issues but I watched all your videos and you've explained everything really well. The one thing I'm grappling with is traditionally Lambrequins, in the Victorian era were mounted in the interior of the very tall window casings with very long side panels, usually when the windows had beautiful mouldings to show off...which mine don't. So, I'm trying to decide if I'm going to get super crazy and mount Lambrequins inside and then do a fancy valance higher up with jabots to join two side by side windows and have drapery panels on the outside at each end. Or make a relaxed Roman or Austria shade with a decorative valance with an inside mount and do the Lambrequins on the outside with enough width to add the drapery panels behind them pulled back with tassel tie backs. I'm trying to create a really authentic multi-layered Victorian look. I'll sort it out and send you the final outcome! Sorry for the ramble, I'm just a wee bit stoked!! lol

The unlined fabric section is 6" deep. You will fold half of the fabric over 3" to meet the top of the lining then attach the fusible backing to that 3" section. Remove the paper to expose the glue then fold the second 3" section over the lining and fuse the pocket to the back of the lining. The rod will move freely through the pocket.

The kit includes instructions for converting basic trim into iron on trim. You can also use tube glue or a glue gun! You don't need to purchase iron-on trim. Just make your own!

Hello Michelle, The rod pocket is created using an unlined upper fabric section. The sides remain open when fused together. The first rod pocket fold is just a fabric fold, free of any glue. The fusible backing is then fused to the top of the first folded section. The paper from the backing is then removed to expose the glue, and the second fold is then fused to the back of the lining. The outside edges remain open allowing for the rod to slip through. Thanks!

The Traceable Designer valance kits are 100% no-sew. The included Heat n bond ultra-hold fusible backing, when used with lining, creates a stiff cornice-style look and helps to seal the edges to prevent fabric fraying. This also makes adding iron-on trim easier. The no-sew valance kit does include three yards of fusible backing which is enough to make one standard size valance. Sewing is optional though!

The fusible backing is used to deposit glue to the fabric back. The lining is then fused to the glue. This seals the edges to prevent fraying. The fusible backing is also used on the back of the trim, then the trim is fused to the edges to complete the valance. The videos show the process.
