Louisiana Summer garden update- July 24 2022
That's a very knowledgeable response, I garontee!! Keep that garden in shape, as always!! Tell Howard to get out there and be useful, for true!!
@@49Mack Howdy Mack. I planned on going much more in depth, but chose to trim it down. I haven't spoken to Howard in about three weeks. I think he doesn't charge his phone enough. Take care way over dere.
I’m in Baton Rouge area what zone is this?
@@ranns160 Howdy. Depending on exact location it's a split between 8b and 9a.
But how do you keep the green caterpillars away? BT only works for a couple of days for me
I grow in zone 9a louisiana in the fall, so the caterpillars aren't too much of an issue because of the cooling weather. with proper techniques to prepare the soil and additional compost and organic fertilizer, the plants will be able to withstand the insects and other things in the early stages. i made a 10 point growing guide, which is worth watching. thanks for watching and the question.
Great advice😊 which is better to use for bug control, damascus earth or sevin dust? Both make the garden look full of white powder...
ohhhh good question. going into the hat! thanks
Fresh is best, especially when you need them in a hurry. Good tip, I garontee!!
yep. never know when you might need one. take care waaay over dere
Sounds like a great idea. 👍👍
yessir. thanks for the visit
Hi
Hi good video 🎉
SUBSCRIBED!!!
if i waqnt to go to SDS plus is the adapter worthless?
eesh I dont know.
Thanks for the video. I’m growing Savoy cabbage for the first time this year. So a very helpful video, thank you 👍
Savoy is a little different from stonehead cabbage and the like. You'll look for similar conditions to harvest but savoy may have a little more spring to it. good luck!
@@growmesomethingmister4930 thanks very much for the info and help 👍
Blue Bell Tin Roof ice cream is my favorite
I looked at that yesterday and thought about it but passed.
My favorite is butter pecan on a hot brownie with nuts. The black walnut is second when they have it in stock. My wife started the vegatable in March with small plants. Looking forward to tomatoes, peppers and squash. She wanted to try fruit trees. Any suggestions for beginners on dealing with trees.
ice cream and brownies sounds like a winner! I'll toss your question in the ol hat. best wishes to your wife's garden.
You don’t know what's good, I garontee!! Vanilla is great, but French Vanilla is # 1, for true!! Unfortunately, it's hard to find in stores & not every company makes a truly tasty product. What does Howard say about this? 🤔
You know Howard's an oddity, but, he doesn't mind strawberry and neopolitan(3 flavors). thanks for the view.
Blue Bunny Cherry Chocolate Chunk.
MMMmmmm
Blue Bell's Creole Cream Cheese is my favorite, when I can find it.
hmmm sounds interesting. does it carry a similar taste profile to creole cream cheese? thanks for the comment and idea.
Cristophines in Bermuda
I plant some cabbage seeds from the 5 of October only two of them started to fold and the rest of them is bush can you say why am from Jamaica it is just a small back yard garden
I can't be certain due to several variables. The cabbages and other brassicas don't exactly form heads or sprout at the same time. I've had cabbage form a month after other cabbages.
We call them choko's in AU
Good advice on the pepper sauce recipes. I will be trying those this summer😀😀😀
excellent to hear! thanks for the visit.
Would have liked to see your choice of settings using the two separate dials that control action instead of just watching you shove in different bits and pulling the trigger.
I messed that up. I was supposed to dial it up to full power and half power, but ended up remaining half power the entire time. I didn't have a need to use the drill/hammer drill feature so I left it off. If you're curious, it drills just fine through the concrete, much easier than a regular masonry bit in a hammer drill.
Do you have a video of results?
Sure do.
Someone posted a topic in last month's chat, but this video was already setup so it will be thrown into the 'ol hat for next month.
I'm in south Louisiana. I want to try my hand at growing peppers for a few reasons. 1 - I want to ferment pepper sauce, both hot and mild. 2. I like the Trappey's Tabasco peppers in vinegar. Do you have any suggestions for peppers that grow in Louisiana. Any pepper suggestions for making a fermented sauce or for those that can sit in vinegar? Or do you have any pepper suggestions in general for any other use? I am looking for flavor and not an extreme amount of heat that can ruin a dish.
Es chayote Mexicano
I do want to Thank You for the honest review. Several to pick from at Harbor Freight and I have no idea which to use to loosen bolts, cylinder pins on backhoe, tractors and what not on the farm. Not sure yet but this really helps. Thanks for this excellent video.
Well hello there Harold. Happy New Year Christopher.
You heard of Bio char?
Yes. Looked into it and use a form of it in my garden on occasion.
Dude what an awesome video and channel. Right on!
Howdy from Natchitoches, Louisiana 👍🏻
Greetings, and welcome to the channel.
Thanks for the great advice with the shredded paper👍👍. Curiously, Is there a way to influence the flavor of your crops? For example, you can feed a cow grains or corn and it'll influence the flavor of the meat. Is it possible to do something similar with plants in a positive way?
Thanks for the shredded paper compost recipe. I will be using that in the spring. The weather has been so flaky, just a few of my plants are growing. I took down my herb pallet garden due to wood rot. Is there anything I can do to prep the soil for spring planting.
Great info! Question: After cleaning my office, I ended up with a whole pile of "sheet" that I had to get rid of. Since paper is made from organics, is it okay to put all that "sheet" in my compost? Or is too much sheet harder to deal with? I want to make sure that sheet will still break down and the ink wont mess up the biological component of the compost. At the end of the day my compost bin will be full of sheet if it is okay to do. Then when I put the compost in my garden beds I'll have sheet all over my yard. Should help out alot. 😁
Hello Christopher. Good advice as usual. 👍👍I think I saw Howard in Cebu City yesterday dressed up for Halloween. 👹
Have you ever had Watermelon rine? DELISH!
Thanks for the fruit tree tips. Is there anything I can do now to prepare my garden soil for future planting? Planning to grow veggies and herbs.
Great info we use fish emulsion here in Houston , we have small patio grow bag garden ☮️❤️💡
Fish emulsion is a good product to use. I've had it bring back a tomato plant that normally should have withered away. Thanks for watching.
You should have sucked the heads out first
Good morning Christopher. Looks like the grass is growing well over there. I never did learn how to cook much. I wish I had but now my bride keeps me out of the kitchen. I'm ok with that. 😁Take care. You should make Howard do a cameo anyway, 😊
That sounds delicious, but you know me. I'm holding out until you make something in your kitchen, no matter how long it takes!! I can wait, I garontee!! 🙂
Great potato recipe for the grill. How about a grilled veggie dish using zucchini, squash and or eggplant? How are you dealing with this heatwave summer for the vegetable garden?
☮️❤️💡
You are absolutely right. There in NO information on why a zucchini would grow tremendous leaves and NO FLOWERS.
😂 great joke!! Thanks for the info always!
Nice joke. It's always good to laugh!! We need more of that in life. I think you should make a cooking video sometime. Maybe mashed "taters" or something easy like dat. I know it would be tasty-looking, for true!! 😉
Thanks for the reply. I'm in the New Orleans area. I will be using 5 gallon buckets for the peppers. Are Birdseye peppers used in Tobasco? Have you grown any potatoes? What varieties grow best in Louisiana?
Thank you your a life saver
Not ripe :(
When can you cook cabbage after harvesting?
As soon as you want to. You have maybe up to a week after harvest.
Though I'm no gardner, I do enjoy your videos. A couple questions for next month. Best way to grow the little red peppers in containers this summer. What squash would you recommend for the new gardner.
