2024 Hawes Enduro
DOANATE TO THE HAWES TRAIL ALLIANCE
hawestrailalliance.com
STAGE 1
This was a brutal stage, but also extremely fun and rewarding. The stage included Gidro and Boulderdash. I had ridden Boulderdash when it first opened in March 2023 and decided it was an AMAZING trail built by @dougbuildstrails, @oldmanbagby, @jlambinator, @adrnln_jnkex @meatman_mtb, and friends of the @hawestrailalliance, but too much for me at the time.
Fast forward 20 months and the @mbaaraceseries announced about 10 days before the race that it would be part of the 2024 Hawes Enduro. I knew I had my work cut out for me. Part of me was nervous, but I was mostly excited to dig deep and get to work learning a rideable line for me in time for the race.
A week before the race, I was able to scope out lines with @oldmanbagby, @spencespins85, @aj_steeber, @jwinsor20, and @rideandlaughpodcast. We spent over an hour learning lines and that helped tremendously.
A few days later, I rode it solo and attempted to do a full pull. I made a few mistakes, but otherwise felt good that I could pull off a clean run for the race.
•
Race day arrived and I was ready. I'm stoked to report that I had a clean run! Partway down, you will see that I get passed by two riders at the same time. I wasn't holding them up at all as they passed at the perfect time without having to slow down. It might have been the cleanest enduro pass in history, haha.
Kudos to the @hawestrailalliance for hosting a fantastic race and to the awesome hecklers on this stage including @yomp_mtb and @kylezf that gave me a huge boost of energy.
STAGE 2
This stage was nearly the opposite of Stage 1. The stage included "Secret" which was an XC style leg and lung burner with only a few minor technical sections. I'm far from a conditioned rider, so I had a clean run, but struggled to finish with a good time on this stage. Need to work on turns and fitness!
STAGE 3
This stage was a trail that I had ridden 7 times in the past, so I was a little more familiar with it and that proved to be helpful. The stage included "Mine" which has a mixture of chunk, tight turns, and flow. I ended up finishing this Stage with a top 8% all time on the "Mine Trail Downhill" Strava segment. I even had time to say hi to my buddy Ryan from @singletrackhats as he took my photo! 🤣
I finished 8th out of 9 riders in my 50+ Masters Category and 86th out of 110 that completed the three stage race. While that might not seem great, I was happy with my effort and was buzzing the whole day about the experience! The vibe was fantastic and I had a blast riding with @spencespins85, @aj_steeber, @all_terrain_thomas, and @byclas_mtb. I also met some new friends including @wyattcolville_! From the groms to the masters, the stoke was high all day!
The @mbaaraceseries did a phenomenal job organizing the event and the @hawestrailalliance was a great host for the event!
I want to express my thanks to the many people involved in putting on this race! I can't wait until next year!

Gidro & Boulderdash: Hawes Enduro Stage 1
Переглядів 46414 днів тому
Average rider (me) attempting a full pull of Stage 1 of the Hawes Enduro today (Gidro & Boulderdash). I made some mistakes including a crash. This trail is tough! Still had a respectable time despite the problems I had. Check it out and feel free to give me some feedback! For those racing on Saturday, good luck and stay focused!
FLAGSTAFF: Full Sail and Meteoride
Переглядів 444Місяць тому
I picked the perfect weekend for my first ride in Flagstaff. The weather was great and the trails were in top condition. I rode Full Sail with Alex and then met a new friend, James, who joined us on Meteoride. None of us had ridden Meteoride yet, so it was fun trying to figure out the best and most adventurous lines. We had a blast! Strava Link: strava.app.link/ueLqE0ed3Nb
Hawes In The Rain (Minor Crash)

It's rare in the desert to have the opportunity to ride in the rain. Today was one of those days! I had the pleasure of riding with my friends Vaughn, AJ, TJ, Steve, Bagby, Jared, and Josue. Here's a link to my Strava for details on the trails we rode: strava.app.link/OPJh05f8PNb
Hawes Shred (Near Crash)

Saturday morning shred! This ride includes video clips from the following trails within the Hawes Trail System in Mesa, AZ: High Ridge Goat Red Mountain Rush Big Sister At the beginning of the video, I attempt to clear the 14' rock garden gap at the top of High Ridge. As I approached the jump, the sun blasted me and I lost all view of the takeoff. I ended up mistiming the jump and landing short...

Deer Valley Resort MTB: REGULATOR
Переглядів 2762 місяці тому
REGULATOR is a new high speed jump trail for 2024 on the lower half of the mountain at the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, UT. The jumps on this trail are slightly bigger than the jumps on Tidal Wave and slightly smaller than the jumps on Tsunami. The run you see in this video is not sped up. It is a fast trail and it gets very tiring at the end when the jumps get even bigger. At the tome this...
South Mountain: Mormon / National Loop
Переглядів 6722 місяці тому
The Mormon / National Loop is arguably the most popular route on South Mountain in Phoenix, AZ, and for good reason! It's a challenge and it's also a blast! You can ride this trail for years and still check off new features each time. I've been riding this loop for at least four years and I was able to check off at least three new features on this ride that I haven't done before. Note: I apolog...

Red Mountain Rush

Red Mountain Rush is a long downhill trail with amazing views of the iconic Red Mountain and the Salt River below. The trail is technical in spots with some exposure and it is rated BLACK. This trail will definitely test your brakes! Make sure you have fresh pads and and a lot of stopping power. I run TRP DH-R Evo brakes on all of my bikes and I absolutely love them. This video is basically a f...

Bentonville MTB Trip

I visited Bentonville with a local Arizona buddy, Vaughn Spencer, and we had a great time despite significant weather related challenges. We experienced thunderstorms, heavy rain, tornado warnings, and flood watches, but we still put 125 miles on our rented Ari Bikes Timp Peaks in two and a half days. We rented the bikes from Bike Works: Bentonville, and although they weren't perfect (what ren...

This video is a collaboration with several Ari Bikes ambassadors. The four of us had an awesome day riding Hiline and the Hogs trails in Sedona. This particular video is not intended to depict the entire route of each trail, but rather highlight some of the signature features, more technical sections, and in a few cases, some alternate or "bonus" lines. The riders: Brian Mendenhall @BTMendenhal...

You Can't Get a Good Workout on an eMTB! (or can you?)
50 and up....nice man I have a chance to compete eventually...42 and six months in nursing my first black diamond break on my hand.
so Hawes is cool with EMTBs now? LOVE IT
Good stuff Jeff, cool that you got to race and interview Rob too. Congrats on finishing, looks like all that hard work def paid off. Anything you would do differently?
@@TrailSage I'm really happy with how the race went. I definitely need to work on CORNERING and FITNESS. Those were the two biggest things that slowed me down.
I love your casual hellos to people, by name, mid race!!! What a day and glad I got to enjoy it with you, Vaughn and Thomas! Already ready for next year!
Sick video man, I am the guy in the white jersey who passed you on stage 1 👍
@@VanTibbettsMTB Hope I didn't hold you up too much! You guys were flying! 👍🏼
Excellent!
Are you gonna cover the race Jeff? I'm excited to see what this enduro is gonna look like. If you are racing in it good luck brotha.
Yes. I will do a post or two on Instagram and make a UA-cam video.
Putting Flagstaff on my list now
Great riding by you, Alex, and James. As you mentioned, the conditions seemed primo. The flow trail in the beginning was cool, but the second half with all the tech got me amped. I have not been to Flagstaff yet but it's on my list the next time I'm in AZ. Kudos to Alex for helping you film.
@@TrailSage You are awesome! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! I really appreciate it! Hopefully I can ride with you next time you're out this way.
@@jeffjacksonmtb That would be awesome! I hope you and Dan get to hook up for a ride too.
Like MTB ASMR! Great video!
@@MTBQandA Thanks, Johnny!!!
you mean the wind noise?
I didn't know Arizona got wet, lol. Nice job navigating that terrain in less than ideal conditions Jeff. Glad you were ok after that crash. Question, what tires are you running and did they get bogged down or clogged up? Sage
@@TrailSage That bike has a Dissector front and rear (OEM setup). My favorite tire combo for AZ is Assagai front, Aggressor rear. The soil is gravely/sandy without much clay, so it doesn't get very muddy. The tires don't get clogged up at all. The trails actually ride best when they are wet. Thanks for commenting and watching!
It's one of my all time favorite trails. I road it this summer, the dirt was great because it rained a little the night before,, A great trail and worth the climb on the road to the trail head
Oh man, I have to get back to Hawes! Great riding Jeff.
Get it Jeff! Nice riding.
Thanks Sage! You would love Deer Valley. Lots of jumps, but also a good amount of tech! #sagetribe
nice riding jeff!
Thanks!!!
Lived at the Pointe Hilton at Tapatio cliffs for 2 years, across the road from South Mountain but was not yet a mountain biker. So sad that I missed the opportunity to enjoy these trails.
@@PaulTjoen Nice! I can relate. I lived in Ahwatukee for a year before I started mountain biking and I missed out on riding there.
I couldn't agree with you more about the friendliness of people at South Mountain. I was there a few weeks ago said Hi to about ten different bikers and hikers and I got like two hellos back. What's their Problem? Is it to difficult to say Hi back? I call them Bike & Hike Snobs!
@@barrettwalker5294 Thanks so much for watching!
Nice climbing on the Mormon section
@@estimateparagon Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it!
Great job on that opening climb Jeff. You and your boys were slaying that tech! National down is so much fun.
Thanks, Sage! Stoked to get that second tech climb for the first time on my analog bike after gaining confidence on my Ari Nebo eMTB the first two times.
Good job 🎉
Good stuff Jeff! Did you record vertical or export vertical? Sage
@@TrailSage I recorded vertical. Usually I do horizontal for UA-cam, but decided to do vertical for some odd reason this time. 🤣
That @N7SLC guy is a chump! 😉 Love his smooth style!
Hiking up it, there are a couple of places it goes to 60 degrees and I have to go up that with poles. Once you get on trail it almost never relents.
To a flatlander like me, that is some serious elevation! Looks like youre in the clouds! Great video!
@@MTBQandA Thank you!
great video, on my bucket list: so what time of day/year that you had no car traffic, almost look like sunsetting? or did you just edit them out? what walkie talkie system did you use at the 3:02 mark?
Sweet bike control skills!!
Thanks ✌
Awesome video! My lakehouse airbnb is exactly a 6 second pedal from the exit of the flowride trail, y’all rode it proper 👊🏽👏🏽🚴
That's awesome! Super fun trail!
@@jeffjacksonmtb totally. I ride slaughter pen more than anything but back 40 is totally underrated, it’s SO GOOD., especially on ebike!
Oh man! I cant wait to get there!
You're going to love it! So fun!
Great documentation of what Bentonville has to offer! That flow ride was incredible!!
Thanks! We tried to make the best out of the 75% of trails that were open. It was still a great time.
Just beautiful scenery! Flowy riddled with chunk! Great ride!
Dirt has been damn good.
0:45 CORRECTION: The grant was for $120,000
Hell yeah Jeff 🔥
Rock slabs! Sand! Catctus! Thats crazy!
No Gopro effect there! That felt steep watching! GREAT RIDE! GREAT VIDEO!
One of my favorite trails!!!!
Awesome!! Need to do High Ridge again now that I have a full face and knee pads!
What in the HELL is wrong with people?🤯🤯🤯🤬🤬. I counted 3 groups stopped in the middle of the trail?!?! If your going to stop… GET THE HELL OFF THE TRAIL!!! Maybe your next video should be MTB ETIQUETTE? When we were coaching kids that was the first thing we taught them! KEEP THE TRAIL CLEAR! Ok…sorry for the soapbox rant😉
Amazing
Thank you!
I want to shoot some night rides on my GoPro as well. What settings do you use? I couldn't get anything useable the first time I tried it.
Bummed to have missed this! Looked amazing!
So fun!!! Can’t wait to do it again!
That looks soooo fun!
Good times!!
Way to go!! Later this week may be hotter!!!
Definitely possible, but I noticed when I get to Hawes, the temps are a few degrees cooler than PHX.
That trail is a blast! It was great riding with you!
Had to go back and ride it again on Saturday, but also added Jacob's Ladder at the top! Such a great place to ride!
Sick bike! Sooooo fun!
Thanks for the test ride! It was a blast!
Plus the added workout of the loading and un-loading of a heavier bike.
...and the added workout of more DH shredding.
Looks like you guys had a good time!!
Great stuff!
Cool video!! It really cool you can see the full moon! That was a fun ride!
