Predictable Challenges of Leading a Growing Church (Part 1): The People Side - Episode 374
When your church is in a season of growth, there are certain challenges that you are bound to run into.
The good news is these challenges are predictable. But just because they are predictable doesn’t mean they are easy to navigate. In fact, some of the pastors going through a season of big momentum would tell you it’s one of the hardest seasons they’ve led through, but it’s also extremely rewarding.
We’re kicking off a new series called “Predictable Challenges of Leading a Growing Church,” where we will be discussing the tensions growing churches face and, most importantly, how to combat them. In this episode, Sean and Amy talk about what’s most important in a growing church-people.

    "Weekend product... weekend experience... team model"... the church is not a business! Success is defined by faithfulness, not pragmatism. How faithfully the pastor is preaching what the Word of God says (regardless of the response), by faithfulness of the people of God to praying together in utter dependence on God (not on evaluating or tweaking or blaming the slide transitions on the new guy), by submitting to His Word and placing beliefs, decisions, and ehaviours under that authority (not on how well people are engaging with a Ted talk), by hearing the voices of the Saints singing praises to God (not on how well the professional band performed), by corporate and personal confession of sin and receiving the grace for us found in Christ (not on emotionally driven self help). You are protmoting the false ideology of pragmatism that has overtaken much of the church in North America to its own destruction.

    In Christianity any hierarchical other than which is envisaged by Jesus Christ is an abomination. The Christian Hierarchy is enunciated/emphasised conclusively, in Mathew, 23:8-11. The quintessence of Christianity lies on the principle that all are equal (deprecating big-small disparity) children of God anery is required to serve others, especially those who consider himself/herself greater. The Roman Hierarchical Structure is adopted by the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), a Roman Pagan/diabolic religion and those who owe allegiance to it. This hierarchical structure is an an abomination for Christianity. The Canon Law, the governing law of the Catholic Church/Catholicism, is based on the pagan Roman Hierarchical Structure and totally opposed to the mandates of Jesus Christ. The Canon Law is devised and designed to obstruct and contradict all the teachings gs and mandates of Jesus Christ and to defy all Gospel Truths, all of which have been, distorted, adulterated and/or destroyed and have been replaced by its own law, orders, statutes, dictums, etc. Both the Roman Catholic Church, the predecessor of the "Holy" Roman Catholic AMD 'APOSTOLIC' Church and its governing law, the Canon Law, are outside the purview of the Scriptures, which acknowledge and accepts ONLY the Apostolic Church/Christianity (Acts of the Apostles). It is clearly and unambiguously evident evident even in the Canonical Gospels (which are bi ding on RCC/Catholic Church) that it owes its origin to Satan (the Parable of Weeds, Mt. 13:24-30&36-43 - whereby it is the Evil Tree that sprout from the seed sown by the Nocturnal Sower/Satan, from which no good fruit will proceed, including the most poisonous and disastrous "sacramental fruits", the sure 'shortcuts' to damnation); and also the 'Necesary Evil' which should last till the Day of the Final Harvest) and fact that RCC is the backdoor (some other way) through which Satan entered into Christianity (Sheep Pen), after kidnapping the Apostolic Church, as 'Thief and Robber'/murderer/swallowed of Christianity (the Parable of Weeds), to steel/robe the Apostolic Authority and to destroy/swallow Christianity (being unable to destroy, as Christianity is divine and indestructible), as clearly revealed in the Parable of the Good Shepherd v/s the Thief and Robber'. What other role Catholicism has in Christianity? Can the usurper/destroyer be the benefactor? Are not Catholicism and Christianity totally contradictory? How can they co-exist? Answer these Biblical enigmas first, before euologising/upholding Catholicism, the Necessary Evil.

    I'm confused here. How does your Unstuck model of not hiring doers and only hiring managers who motivate and inspire volunteers align with this pastor who has counselors on staff? What is a counselor if not a doer? Are there some doers that should be employed by a church other than the accountant?

    • @theunstuckgroup
      @theunstuckgroup Місяць тому

      Thanks for your question. You’re correct that we recommend hiring leaders to build teams of volunteers rather than stacking your staff with specialists and doers-but that doesn’t mean you’ll never hire any doers at all. There are certainly times when hiring a specialist makes sense for a church. We provide guidance on things like that in the staffing and structure part of our process when we’re serving churches.

    Got sort of the same question as below about advice for smaller churches collecting information. It sounds like Victory church has people "scan here" in order to be entered into a drawing...so does that then lead to a form where they have to give their "FLEP" information? And what are other ways that don't feel forced or awkward? I think that's one of the challenges we sometimes feel here at our church. Even on a Sunday morning, people are SO reluctant to give info unless they've been here several times and feel like this is a place they want to keep coming. So getting that info on a first-visit, like an event, seems like a tough sell. Thoughts on all of that?

    • @theunstuckgroup

      Hi David, Thanks for tuning in! It's less about the numerical growth (churches of 200 can experience momentum growth, as can churches of 2,000) and more about the rate/pace of growth.

    51:00ff - "Why you exist as a church?, Where is God calling us to go in the future?, How are we going to accomplish that and who's going to be responsible?" - (And then having a 1001 conversations towards alignment based on God's answer to those questions) - These were framing questions for our church post pandemic. We answered the first question by re-layering into our church culture the principles from Matt. 28, Acts 2 and Eph. 4. Question two emerged from a long message series on Luke and the Kingdom agenda he sets out. We pivoted from there to another vital resource - "The Externally Focused Quest" by Rusaw and Swanson. It helped us with strategy and execution for a kingdom agenda for our community and led us into vital collaborative partnerships with other churches and community stakeholders. My role as sr. pastor was to bake these insights into many conversations, beginning with the staff and eldership. We've been blessed with aligned eldership and very grounded and capable staff members who've been there in their hearts as well. Through their influence it has rippled into the rest of leaders and people. Its been a journey of persistence, but the "God" side of these questions as we worked through them is where some really cool things have happened and continue to happen. Thank you Tony and Amy for guiding the body of Christ with organizational wisdom that resonates with the unique characteristics of the church. Many of us wrestle with organizational theory and the uniquely organic nature of the church and I always come away from your material with a lot of peace regarding how those two things work together and the fruit we can expect to see from it. (Many other great gems in this webinar as well, so thanks everyone for sharing your wisdom!)

Because half way through the convo, I wa pretty sure that hh'd never dealt with a church. BUT he was more than readdy to charge an hourly rate. Then I call another one and onlt the receptionist answers and I ask if they are a church attorneys, she didn't know and went to find out, she came back and said, "Yes. $150 for consultation." So I have to pay before I know whether the receptionist is telling the truth. UGH. Same issue with CPA
