I lived in Williston for about 7 years let me tell you it blew. Everyone exploits the fact that you work in the oil field yes we were making a good living but good grief the prices at some of these places were outrageous and as far as welcoming depends on where you went and who you knew

This is mostly accurate. Most people move to Williston for the $$$. EVERYONE, regardless of what industry you are actually in, is in the oil and gas business. That said - is there anywhere in America where good paying jobs can be found that cost of living isn’t also high?

Not a safe place for women unfortunately. If you're a young woman or have daughters, think twice before you choose to relocate to Minot. A lot of slumlords too. Plus sex offenders who manage to find a way to stay off the Registered Sex Offenders List. NOT something to be proud of, ehhhhhhh?

I moved to Fargo for a job and was there for just under two years. I am now living in California. Fargo is a cross betweeen the Twilight Zone and purgatory. The people were just weird...kinda off. What I discovered about the place, was the people born and raised in the area did not like newcomers. They looked at you as an "intruder, " and I was told as much. I found old-fashioned attitudes, and a dislike of anyone who was not straight and white. I also did not like the ultra-conservative attitudes. It is 100% Trump, and you do have a lot of radical right-wingers. Everyone drives a pickup truck and looks like they are on meth or live in a trailer park. The cost of living is not that low, and jobs pay dirt. I was never so glad to get out of Fargo. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

Lots of opportunities in North Dakota. We came into Grand Forks 15 years ago with a household income of $36k, this year, we are leaving with a household income over $400k. My wife and I both achieved advanced degrees, me in engineering, her in nursing. We have been trying to leave for 5 years, but kept getting sucked back in with good opportunities. Good problem to have. Now, we are headed out of state. If you need some new opportunities, keep your eyes open. There are great opportunities in North Dakota. You just have to be able to survive the harsh winters.

Ok, so this dude apparently sells real estate. Here's the reality, he's shown you some of the nicer areas of Bismarck but none of the MANY trailer courts. I encourage you to do two things, really look into what winters are like in North Dakota. Hint: they are brutally, brutally cold and long and the daylight periods are extremely short, so, you're going to be going to work in the dark and driving home in the dark. Visit the area IN THE WINTER. Those drone shots with water and boats and ringed with homes are private property. I've lived in North Dakota for most of my life and in Bismarck for almost 30 years and I honestly love it but I've had the unique perspective to be able to tell you that the majority of people that come here seeking the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow wind up seriously, seriously disappointed and wind up leaving after a short period of time. Here's some advice you can really use, (1): go onto Zillow and look at the real estate that's for sale and/or has sold, it is very expensive here (2) search for "flooding in Bismarck" and/or "flooding in North Dakota and (3) "blizzard in Bismarck" or "North Dakota blizzard". There is definitely a reason that there are only 790,000 people living in the 70,700 square miles that are North Dakota.

The problem with North Dakota is the right to work law. My wife was forced out of her job 11 days after our two year old son was diagnosed with cancer. The Williston Basin School District HR Judith B is the one who did it. School District didn't want the insurance hit. Disgusting! Also there is no BBB in North Dakota. There is a wells fargo atm but no bank branch. There is no Chase bank branch. The local government is super corrupt. Example, the mayor bought land from the city then sold it back to the city to build a school. A plus is no gangs, no traffic, new airport. We bought back in 2015 and our value has doubled.

@@riviclaye615 Nope I actually just moved in this 2024 march from a 3rd world country. It's a really nice place with nice people so it sucked to hear that crime rates shot up when the oil boom happened. It was nice to see children playing outside so it would suck if crime rates shot up because of bad people moving in.
