Lol, it does seem funny that they’d sell native CA poppies like that, but of course, you’re lucky if you have them sprouting up where you live 😊 Not everyone has them. I rarely see them and I live in SD. I see more non native plants. The thing is, most perennials, annuals, biennials, or other "bedding" plants (like poppies) will be more resilient and longer-lasting if grown from seed in the ground or container where they’re going to stay. Then they can just sprout, root in place where they want to be. And be strong. Unless it’s a succulent, most plants can’t handle being moved around too much. And even some succulents at extremely picky. Even buying stuff from the store and bringing it home is stressful for them. Buying perennials in pots is already a little iffy, even for experienced gardeners. They’re not like divas, but they’re not super easy or adaptable. Lol. People may say otherwise, but I beg to differ. 😂 It’s like with veggies. You can buy potted, nursery-grown vegetable plants and get some good produce out of it, but unless you collect the seed, that plant will be dead in fall. And that’s a bit of a waste. The plant has been grown at a warehouse likely, then shipped to the nursery, so then may have a difficult time being moved from the nursery to your house. Perennials/annuals, veggies, etc. generally like to stay where they’ve sprouted and not be moved.

if you don’t lift them up the bottoms can rot. They sell cradles for them but i’m sure you can find a DIY too :)
