Chasing R&N PNGS - Cressona to Donaldson
On Sunday January 26th, 2025 I gave chase on the Goodspringer on the Reading and Northern with a trio of SD40-2's rolling through a spectacular winter wonderland. I first found the train working in the yard at West Cressona and decided to give chase up the Tremont Branch toward Good Spring. Shots on this chase included Becks Crossing, Westwood Junction, Tremont, and Donaldson.

Переглядів 854 години тому
On Monday January 13th, 2024 I ended up in Gardeners, Pennsylvania on the Gettysburg and Northern Railroad in Adam's County. We caught the weekday on its return back to Gettysburg with 3833 and 1001 for power as they roll southbound through Gardners.
Norfolk Southern 10Z in Sunbury
It was a cold night in Sunbury, Pennsylvania on Norfolk Southern's Buffalo Line. NS manifest 10Z was making its way north from Enola, PA to Binghamton, NY with SD60E 6952 leading the way. Its not often you get an SD60E leading this long of a train especially on a train like 10Z. We caught the train just before midnight as they made their way on to the Sunbury Line.
CSX and NYSW in North Jersey
Переглядів 249День тому
On Thursday January 9th, 2025 I made a visit to the CSX River Line in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. CSX action was pretty limited in the afternoon with two southbound intermodals and B706 with some foreign power as they were picking up cars from the New York Susquehanna and Western. We then concluded the action with a catch of the SU-99. After missing the train at Maywood, I decided to test my l...
Conrail SA-31: East Brunswick to Jamesburg
Переглядів 560День тому
The day after seeing JB-2, I chased Conrail's SA-31 from East Brunswick to Jamesburg. The power on today's run was CSX GP40-2 6160 pulling three center beams loaded with lumber bound for the Delaware and Raritan River Railroad interchange in Jamesburg. The final destination for these cars would be Builders General in Freehold, New Jersey.

On Friday January 3rd 2025, I met up my friends Wesley and William and showed them around a few places in Central New Jersey. We started at Bound Brook where we got a mix of NJT, CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Conrail Shared Assets. After that it was on to Metuchen on the Northeast Corridor which included a mix of NJT and Amtrak. We concluded the day with the PM Rush Hour on the North Jersey Coastl...
C&D JB-1 on the Freehold Industrial
Переглядів 35614 днів тому
The first train in 2025 was definitely a good one. I once again made the return to the Delaware and Raritan River Railroad and their JB-1 turn as they were making the return trip from the busy Freehold business district to Jamesburg to interchange with Conrail Shared Assets. The train was led by GP9 752 with 5 cars bracketed in the middle with GP9U 1888 on the rear.
New Years Eve in Alburtis
Переглядів 15521 день тому
The final day of 2024 brought me to yet another new location for me. Alburtis, Pennsylvania is located on the eastern portion of Norfolk Southern's Reading Line just west of Allentown. We caught two eastbound trains during the short stay. Those included H11 heading back to Allentown and 28X continuing east for New Jersey with 4004 leading the way.
The Railroads of Lansdale Pennsylvania
Переглядів 45121 день тому
One of the many short line railroads in Eastern Pennsylvania that has been on my bucket list for quite a long time has been the Pennsylvania Northeastern railroad. Half of the railroad's fleet is comprised of ex CN and CP SD40-2's. All three of the former Canadian 6 Axels were running out of the railroads Lansdale yard on the former Reading Railroad's Bethlehem Branch. We caught the tail end of...
Septa Action at Willow Grove
Переглядів 20721 день тому
Septa's Warminster Line is a former Reading Railroad branch line that splits off the main at Glenside heading towards Warminster and eventually towards the Delaware River to the end of the line in New Hope, Pennsylvania. In Willow Grove we caught both of Septa's electrified equipment that is utilized on their regional rail system in and out of Philadelphia.
Fun Filled Afternoon in Reading
Переглядів 34521 день тому
It was just two days after Christmas and railroads of Reading, Pennsylvania continued to bring business in and out of the city. Norfolk Southern was the star of the show on this beautiful sunny day, but the Reading and Northern and East Penn Railway also made some contributions as well. We visited various locations in the Reading area including places such as Wyosmissing JCT and Sinking Spring ...
Final Shots of Northumberland Locals in 2024
Переглядів 293Місяць тому
On my final NS Buffalo Line outing of 2024 I caught 4 of the locals out of Northumberland Yard. The day started in Watsontown where we chased K22 east on the Watsontown Secondary. After that we went back to Northumberland Yard and caught NSHR-1, K21, and H53 all returning back to the yard.
Amish Country Steam to NS Rerouted Intermodal

Another day an yet another steam locomotive. This time, its on the Strasburg Railroad in Lancaster County. This was first time at Strasburg in two years and I got to shoot N&W 475 with the Southern Pacific 6 Chime whistle pulling the railroad's Santa trains. Afterwards, I caught Amtrak 42 heading east at milepost 59.2 on the Keystone Corridor at the site of the former Irishtown Road grade cross...
Woodstown Central and CSAO in South Jersey
Переглядів 927Місяць тому
Southern New Jersey on Saturday November 30th brought beautiful sunny skies and incredible railroad action on the Woodstown Central Railroad and Conrail Shared Assets. The star of the show was 0-6-0 #9 making her excursion debut on the Woodstown Central which has slowly been making a name for itself as one of the rising excursion railroads not just in New Jersey, but also throughout the northea...

Nice!
Beautifully done! You know, it's like one Christmas card vista after another! Looks like it was COLD there too so thanks for going though the effort to bring that train to us! (Given the leisurely pace it's obviously not the North Reading Fast Freight, but it's all good!)
Cool. Eventually I gotta catch the CSX job that's down there
Nice! And if I recall correctly the G&N is the sucessor to the older Gerrtysburg Railroad that had the steam engine crownsheet failure back in the 1990s.
So where is the station this was shot from?
Ridgefield Park
Nice catches of CSX AND the Suzy-Q! Thanks for posting! (Even if it makes me a bit homesick! 🥲)
Interesting! I know where Lakewood is, I know where Freehold is, but I've never gone to either by train. Thanks for bringing me along!
Awesome catch
Very interesting and nicely done! I don't live in Lansdale but I'm familiar with the area and this was a side I've never seen. You've got a subscriber! Us Jersey guys have to stick together!
beautiful video what kind of camera do you have?
I use my phone for video.
Very nice
Great video! What customers does NS service on the Watsontown secondary besides the power plant?
Risser Grain just off the Beaver Run Road and some fertilizer facility on east end of the branch which I dont think they been rail served for quite some time.
Great catches and awesome video
Great video! Why was 264 rerouted?
@@mikemacheese7174 264 was rerouted due to heavy snow in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Cool. Nice long local.
Great video!
Good to hear Sunbury still has mechanical crossing bells!
Yes notice that the bell is mounted on the cabinet. Rare.
Do you know what time H66 hit Jim Thorpe and Weatherly?
Awesome, it would be if the R&N can do future excursions from the Reading Outer Station to the Vosburg tunnel and back!
Great video, loved NS #4000
Well done!
Great catches awesome chase capture and nice video
Nice
Oh cool I was the conductor on the train
Thats cool! Do you work frieight for the NBER too? I live out by Bald Eagle and I'm always out catching you guys lol
@DistantHornProductions1 I work for the excursion trips on the BHRS so I'm a conductor for the passenger rides
@11:00 you are standing on, or only a few feet from the roadbed of the WAG railroad, ex-B&O, ex-B&S @13:00 the line is owned by NS. It is leased by the WNY&P.
1. This is nowhere near either of those railroads. 2. Its not leased. The WNYP owns it north of Driftwood, however its just rare now that they run down to Driftwood. The only interchange NS has in Driftwood is with the B&P.
@@gardenstaterailfan 1 I guess I stand corrected. However, since the the line ran from Galeton south through Wharton to Sinnamahoning where it connected to PRR how close does it have to be to not be close? The B&O owned it who sold to WAG. Due to flooding it was abandoned. To this day a satellite picture shows the roadbed. 2. I guess the WNY&P guys I know don't know anything. 3. I live here and have my whole life, so I would be the least likely to know any of our local history.
@@gardenstaterailfanSo when WAG took over the piece from Burrows to Sinnamahoning had already been abandoned by the B&O, apparently. The original Wellsville, Addison & Galeton Railroad (WA&G) consisted of two main lines originating from Galeton, Pennsylvania. One ran northwest to Wellsville, New York, where it connected to the Erie Railroad; the other ran northeast to Addison, New York and also connected to the Erie. Two short segments completed the trackage, one running east to Ansonia, Pennsylvania and a connection with the New York Central Railroad, and another southwest to Burrows, representing the stub end of the former connection to the B&O.
i chased the sayer dam/curtin village train. i hope to have the photos and videos up soon
Dude awesome catch.
Great video! I'll go on a small rant here and say it's very nice to see old power running around on class 1 railroads in 2024. They have surely earned their keep and keep on ticking day after day, definitely a true testament to railroad engineering. It's also very nice to hear different horns on diesels other than the monotonous GE's that dominate the rails today. Horns are definitely the song of railroaders past that ran these engines when they were new, when railroading was different, and when times were different. Railfan on my friend!
Great catches and awesome video
Great video of this area, I used to run around there years ago, and I should really go back given I live less then 45 minutes away to the south. I really like the catch of 650 coming out of Enola Yard. Normally empty coal trains comes of D or G track and gets staged at CP-banks until the crew comes, but giving this train had a rare power setup they would have a hard time getting the train going up the grade and onto the main line.
Weatherly has a nice ex-LV station, too bad R&N can’t go there with an excursion train from Jim Thorpe. There’s also no direct switch access to NS at Old Penn Haven, a train would have to back up and pull forward onto NS.
Is it rare to ride the R&N north of Jim Thorpe and see an NS freight along the way?
Wow, to see this line still in operation is a treat! I remember when it was still owned and operated by NS.
Grreat video grreat rr
Nice variety of catches! Nice scenery too!
Way too much power. 😁
No such thing !!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cool!
i recognize that music
We were at Pittston and had a great time
Great chase nice to see LVRM at the end
Like the H66 and the LGSR meet at Coal. Both had great timing.
cant believe 4822 is already dirty
Awesome video!
Always a great spot to hangout at!
god, 4109's horn sounds terrible
My primary train route to Hoboken from Denville when I worked for PANYNJ at Exchange Place in Jersey City (also used the HBLRT daily).
Is this the ont that runs thru the battlefield and crosses 30 going towards Chambersburg?
Awesome catch. Man 10K was long.
Nice video, likes from me !
Nice catch. I might try to catch it if I’m up there
