NSHR-2 - The Selinsgrove Local
The former Pennsylvania Railroad trackage from Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania to Lewistown, Pennsylvania is just a small fraction of what it used to be. As of May 2022, the North Shore Railroad operates the ex PRR line through Selinsgrove to a feed mill in Kreamer, Pennsylvania where the line ends today. NSHR-2 runs on the Selinsgrove branch Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as needed. This is because the feed mill is the only major customer on the line and they don't get cars in Northumberland everyday to take with them to Selinsgrove and Kreamer. The usual power is one the railroads company owned switchers.

What a weekend it was in Northeastern Pennsylvania. This was the best trip in the past three years with all the action that took place throughout the weekend. This includes the Reading and Northern, the Delaware Lackawanna, and Norfolk Southern action on the Sunbury Line. Even the 2102 made its way up to Pittston for the third and final Iron Horse Ramble of the 2024 season.

On the same day as the H66 chase, the Delaware Lackawanna was running their PO-74 train from Scranton to Cresco and back. However, they just beat us going north back to Scranton so we stuck around for ST-2 with former Lehigh Valley C420 405 running as a lite engine back to Scranton. We caught it at Tobyhanna and Lehigh Road in Gouldsboro on its way back to Scranton.

On Sunday July 28th, 2024 I made my way to Eastern Pennsylvania to see some action on Norfolk Southern and the Reading and Northern. We saw several trains in the Allentown/Bethlehem area along with chasing H66 to Hazelton. We also caught the usual Reading and Northern operations in the Lehigh River Gorge including the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, NRFF, and PIJT.

This scenic park along the Hudson River has breathtaking views in the beautiful Bear Mountain region. On Tuesday June 4th, 2024 I decided to give a short chase of Delaware and Raritan River Railroad train JB-2 on the Freehold Industrial as it made its way towards Lakewood. Later in the afternoon I made a brief stop in Hazlet to watch NJCL train 3229 make a passenger stop before continuing south to Long Branch.
Amtrak and Metrolink in Glendale

Over Memorial Day weekend of 2024 I ended up in Southern California and had a brief amount of time for some railfanning. Glendale was the chosen spot as we caught several Metrolink commuter trains along with an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train in the morning rush hour.

My primary train route to Hoboken from Denville when I worked for PANYNJ at Exchange Place in Jersey City (also used the HBLRT daily).

I grew up in Staatsburg and have lots of picture and 8 mm films of trains passing at this location of the old station that was finally torn down in 1965

Where is the location of the bridge across the Susquehanna River in the beginning of the video?
The bridge is located by Antlers on the Water just west of Newberry Yard. This bridge connects the Norfolk Southern's Buffalo Line with the Lycoming Valley Railroad.
It seems they only now originate at PN Sundays, normally they are WCGS

Not anymore in September of 2022 they were bought by patriot rail and currently owned by them, as the locomotive here says the company name on it, used to have some nice classic locomotives now down to just 3 but with new ones coming in the future here soon actually since they will do tour rides again next year

R&N 3064 in shiny Reading inspired paint must've been just released from the paint booth put on this propane unit train thru Tremont to Good Spring run. Love the horns on the lead unit. Glad too see that the R&N still uses these classic locomotives in service.

More than usual the road power leading H53 on the Buffalo lines passin thru Sunbury from H-burg.
So what history can you share with your viewers about this territory?
It used to be a double track main line from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Buffalo, New York. The track was originally laid by the Northern Central Railway and was acquired by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1868. Used to be a high tonnage line, but most of the line has become a single track, and is still used by Norfolk Southern, and North Shore Railroad.
Nice to see that the Buffalo Line is still busy but not the high traffic count as it was on the earlier 2000's! The former Pennsy line from Sunbury to Binghamton NY remains active as usual traffic wise. Nice video.

Very nice video. That’s quite a busy night on the Buffalo Line. That’s crazy how 10Z was all intermodal “trash” seems like the trash facilities both north and south are increasing there traffic.
Yeah kind of wasn't expecting that. It was also the second 10Z of the day. We were originally supposed to get H53 and 10Z, but we had no idea that coal train was coming up north.
