SnapMaker 2.0 Dual Extrusion Module: Unboxing & Setup. IT'S HERE!
#3dprinting #snapmaker #unboxing #setup
After pre-ordering this in September 2022, it has finally arrived!
The Dual extrusion module is an update that i have been really looking forward to!
Wanting to experiment with multi-material prints and special support materials? Then dual extrusion looks like the perfect way forward.
In this video i cover an unboxing of the new SnapMaker 2.0 dual extrusion module. I also install it and run through the dual extruder calibration settings. I also get a dual tone print in action and have a look over its quality! If you are installing this yourself, be sure to read the instructions thoroughly (unlike me).
The 2 Colour Tree Frog i used was a design from Nervoussystem and is Available on Thingiverse:
www.thingiverse.com/thing:329436
This was a rather rushed video as i had no expectations as to when the 3D printing dual extruder would arrive, but i have tried to cover as much as i can in the day I've had. I have been unwell but as soon as i get some requests i will be putting together another video with PVA water soluble support filament, instead of the PLA break away support material. I also will be using this module to print LW-PLA and PLA+ mixed components for my homemade EDF spy plane. As well as using high temperature prints such as carbon fiber nylon (CF-PA) (and PVA supports) to complete some automotive projects, comparing them to my modified extruder.
Do get in touch if you would like to see me try anything else with this beast!

    Were you able to improve the quality? Any update videos? The extruder costs 399Eur or 699Eur without discount that's same as P1P printer that prints way way better.

    Cura works well. You select both or all the parts and then right click and select merge models. Works ok for me. My Dual Anet A8 does not have a auto alignment procedure. I had to set it in the cura settings. Got close but still requires some tinkering. Its always going to be a chalenge especially if you print with different brand filaments requiring different heat settings etc etc. With some practice you will eventually be able to make the changes resutling in a very good quality print.

    With a Snapmaker 2.0 A350 with a dual extruder, are you able to pause the machine and switch 1 of the filaments and resume the print?

      That is a good question! although i believe it is possible, there has been one or two 'holes' in the new firmware, so i will check it out and get back to you

      @@launch3d115 I have another question. My dual extruder helper (prime tower) fails every time thus causing my prints to fail every time. what am I doing wrong?

    Thats actually a very interesting camera setup, it is a camera on the side, isn't it? I would be interested in seeing more about that!

      Thankyou and yes it is! it is really useful for watching individual layer adhesion and for finding faults while away from the printer! I was thinking to use a 3d printed mount that will allow for a cheap amazon camera instead actually. I could definitely make a video of that in April!

    Don't use Luban, it's terrible.

      To be honest, i have always avoided using Luban and this was my first time! I am more familiar with Cura, and its my go to. But i rushed this video out and unfortunately, at the time there was not a Cura profile for the Snapmaker 2.0 dual extruder setup. I am going to create a custom printer profile and start from there in the next videos though!

      @@JmsnCrpntr Hhm, I cannot find this in Cura 5.2.2. Am I doing it wrong? Hhm.... as I see: There are some Dual Extrusion options/settings, but no profile includes really a second extruder

    So manually adjusting z offset with the stupid paper is no longer required with this print head?

    • @badamancraig
      @badamancraig Рік тому

      Thats right! So far I haven't needed it! You can also manually adjust Z offset during the print on the controller, similar to before and it also displays the current offset setting. Handy for correcting any poor adhesion or bed scraping that catches you by surprise!

    Hope you can improve the quality of that because that is a pretty terrible frog print.

      yeah me too! Although it was printed with factory settings, i still wonder if i missed something at some point! I plan to have another go at it as soon as possible but with settings closer to my normal profiles, to see if it will come out any better.

    6:41 what the hell is that in the front where normaly the roll would hang from? And i dont get that bowden thing they added. What to do if you wanna switch back to the normal 3d tool head? And where you put the bowdens once you switch to another toolhead? And all those steps you need to make every time you switch the toolhead? @launch3d

    • @launch3d115
      @launch3d115 Рік тому

      I have used the old roll mounting arm to fix a camera to watch the layers close-up as they are printed. Its crude and i need to 3d print a real mount, but its handy when watching a print from outside the workshop! As for the Bowdens, i agree that they will come with some inconveniences! There is also a pair of clamps to hold the Bowden tubes out of the way when using a different tool head. They are backed with double sided tape so they can be mounted wherever you like. I didn't fit them in this video and realise that maybe i should have mentioned them though.

      @@launch3d115 Aha i see, good idea. I am a litle let down in teh quality the frog came out. i mean we did pay ALLOT for the dual extruder right.. that 1 dual extruder costs as much as some brands whole printer. I hope i get mine in soon aswell and hope it prints better.

      @@hakaiyou4532 yes it wasn't quite the frog i expected from the stock settings, and i agree it wasn't a cheap module. I have seen that nozzle wipe and retraction settings can be very useful in producing a better print though, and i also hope to recreate the frog in Cura slicer with my own profile and see how they differ in quality
