This is it! We read this portion near the end of the Torah as the year draws to a close. This week we read two portions together, Nitzavim and Vayelech. In this portion, Moses reminds the Children of Israel that God’s commandments are not elusive, distant things, but are close to hand, and ready to be pursued. The commands of the Torah are challenging yes, but not overwhelming. Have a good and ...

Portion Ki Tavo opens with a joyful opening “When you enter the Land…” At long last Moses can give his people the instructions for their life in the Promised Land. His instructions regarding the first fruits apply to other areas of life, like new marriages, new homes, and new babies. The Children of Israel are to rejoice in these things but to give thanks to God for them first. Before they buil...

I am so struck with the word play on "pity" relating David's sin back to Saul. In Psalm 51, David's confession for this sin, he says, "Cast me not from Your presence, O LORD, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me." I believe this was David begging, "Please do not remove my spiritual anointing as king, as You rightly did with Saul, even though I deserve the same." I also see David's humble acknowledgement of his sin as evidence of him being an individual "after God's own heart", as God told Samuel He was looking for such to be king.

Jewish here. What a one-sided account! Shocking misrepresentation of Jewish history to serve your Christian Zionism. Jews were saved by Moslem majority empires and sovereigns right up to WWII. The Moslem, Christian and Jewish temples are on top of Pagan temples. People simply build and rebuild on holy land. WWJD? Not apartheid that's certain.

The basic issue Gentile Christians would ask their Jewish friends to really explain is why the writers of the Gospels believed that Yeshua was more than just an itinerant rabbi with a death wish, why they believed He was the Mashiach and also G-d in the flesh, and why many of the Cohenim, Parushim and lawyers became believers. ~~~~ It wasn't Gentiles who wrote the New Testament, it was devout Jewish men living in Israel under the dictatorship of the Roman Empire. It wasn't the Jews who crucified Christ, or even the Romans; according to Isaiah 53 it was G-d, and that is why Jesus often spoke about his impending death and resurrection. ~~~ As regards whether God is singular One, or three inseparable expressions of One G-d, see 1st Corinthians 15: 20-28. Especially verses 25-28!

The Moabites treated Yisraelites terribly when they were entering the Land from out of Mitzrayim. And eventhough Ruth came out of Moab, there is still the original sin of the Moabite cousins against their Yisraelite cousin, years ago. Also, hadn't David just finished fighting the Moabites when he put 2/3 of them to death?

Shalom! Father already knew that David would cause blood shed by having the honorable Hittite murdered to cover his own wrong doing. Also, what is interested is that a Hittite was hanging out with Davud men because the Hittite people were supposed to be driven out of the Land of Yisrael. I am assuming that Batsheba was also an Hittite. Yet, Solomon, son of a Hittite woman, becomes king, out of all the women who had bore children for David?

Such a wonderful exposition of 2 Sam 6 I was going over notes and bible cross references. I was led to 1 Chron 13-16. I also discovered that Uzzah was a Levite as son of Abinadab the Levite at Kirjah-jearim at whose house the Ark had been for 50 years. Although David had consulted people Uzzah should have know better hence Gods anger with him, Uzzah. So much to learn from this chapter.

I am happy to hear you differentiate between Christian Zionists (like myself) and MAGA/America First/Libertarian wing of Republican Party. While I was overjoyed with President Trump's overall embrace of Israel in his foreign policy, and his leadership in facilitating the Abraham Accords, I want to be clear that Trump does not represent the Evangelical community, and there is not necessarily broad consensus among Evangelicals. Hard to paint Conservative Christians with a broad brush.

So as a Christian do you condem israels murder of 14,500 children and babies? Do you condem the ethnic cleasning of the indigenous population? Because Jesus gave us two commands- love God and love your neighbour. There is no command to murder children. IT IS AGAINST GOD TO MURDER CHILDREN FOR ANY REASON.
