I googled DIY portable ring and this video was the first result. Frontier for the win!!! 🎉
Hi Tori! Hope it helps!
This video was so incredibly helpful this week. Our throwers gained 3 ft just by doing this drill alone. Thank you so much for this.
Definitely will check out the books. Thanks again.
My son only does two warm-ups for discus. Not that he's thinking Olympics, but he only gets two warm-up throws at his local high school championship meet and that was enough to motivate him to get used to two warm-ups. In fact he often does practices where he measures throws 3 through 5. The idea being the first two throws are warm-ups and then within the next three throws he needs one that makes the finals. Funny story, the first big meet that he went to, when he was 11 years old, he took zero warm-ups and won gold in 11-12 Shot Put at USATF. He threw a 4 foot PR at that meet, so his logic held, that he didn't want to waste a good throw in warm-ups. If that sounds advanced for an 11-year-old, this week, as a 17-year-old he built an AI powered smart visor that identifies vegetation. He only did that project because he had to wait a few days on delivery for a part he needed for a VR haptic glove that he'd built the week before. Actually he built the glove, what he needed was a power cord for Valve Index in order to properly test the glove. As he hadn't actually played the system in over a year, then realized after finishing the glove that he couldn't use it with the Index until he got a power cord, which we had to get from eBay. They don't have them at Home Depot. At GameStop you'd have to buy the whole system. Radio Shack doesn't exist anymore. Anyway, that was an unnecessary long story. Let me close with thank you so much for this video. I'm very picky about what audio plays in the background while I'm working and this podcast/conference certainly is good content. Thank you. You guys are the best.
All-time record still? Michael Carter - 81 feet, three-and-a-half inches. Transitioning to college - we would always subtract 10 feet and would think he'd throw the 16 pound ball 71'
What a strange championship there! No spectators, no stadium.....😮
Thank you
Very helpful thank you
Thanks. New to shot put, trying to help my kids. Excellent explanation and demonstration.
What is technical drill
Great effort by you to demostrate this type of drill
Does he purposefully block himself off with his right at the top of the circle?
Could you just put chains on a hammer wire?
L9
Thanks for the clip....
Has anyone ever noticed that women throwers appear to have better (more effective and efficient) throwing technique than men?
I feel like it’s effective because the disc is lighter, if a man did that it would probably not go as far
Iam so confused about it
Hi sir iam a discus throw
That's not a distance to sneeze at. I'd expect more hype and to let us know the thrower's stats etc. Very cool and it would be great to see a thrower in HS get close to 80'
Just saw that sophomore Jackson Cantwell put 74 9 3/4 at districts yesterday. Would love to see Ben and Jackson compete at nationals.
How is there zero hype from anybody present?
What weight shot?
12lb / 5.44kg
@@throwbigthrowfar_X Dang! Wish I was smart enough to figure out how this is happening. I see the distance. The most I've ever seen thrown in person is about 12 feet less than that. And considering that a 38' foot throw looks like shite compared to a 50' throw then I have to assume that this 75 footer put 63 footers to shame. Maybe that's not a perfect analogy. Percentage vs. difference. Point is that must've been some throw, but it doesn't come across in video. Wish it did. Not trying to downplay it. Just would love to see that from ringside.
Any throw that is that crazy far especially in high school needs to follow with some sort of testing to rule out foul play.
agreed. Doubtful shots were weighed for a quad meet on a weekday. Lack of an exuberant celebration could be telling as well.
@@bassy4string he’s been ranked number 1 in the country for a while, an improvement doesn’t surprise anyone
What a bomb!
Nice drill, I will try it out.. next time.
Very underrated and valuable drill. The tactile nature of it is key otherwise its almost an abstract concept to teach young throws. Thank you very much
The guy was good.

Been watching discuss videos for a month now and this drill is GOLD. Nobody talked about this important aspect..
His form is much different than his counterparts. I wonder if anyone has a video explanation for this. Seems to be more linear than rotational.
Not really- I’d say he had a different style. Sure, his sweep leg is narrow but he’s still achieving tremendous separation and then he has that finish. His advantage is mobility, imo. Look how far back the discus is when good left foot grounds at the front. So much pull…
An excellent show, the rules are dead
What rules are you referring to?
@@carlosgehri9920 you are right, there's any rule now
@@franciscogomez9404 You keep talking without saying anything, justify your shitty comment
Everyone was in the same conditions, and Alekna threw 6 meters more than the second place, he is different, he broke the record and that's it.@@franciscogomez9404
Everyone was in the same conditions, and Alekna threw 6 meters more than the second place, he is different, he broke the record and that's it.
Nice circus
Why?
Thats sick, excellent job to Alekna truly "Like father Like son". I'm just waiting for the hidden beasts to respond ( Ceh and Stahl )
not sure how there ''hidden beasts''
@mantasvilunas2636 "hidden beast" as in we are waiting for their "physical" response
Don’t wrap into body like he does keep it out a little
Tess I really like you 💓
It is clarified that the top inside edges of the rim of the circle and of the stop board are considered to be part of the top of the rim and stop board respectively. This means that should an athlete make contact with the top inside edge of either the rim or the stop-board then they will be considered thereby to have made a failure. The addition of the Note to Rule 32.14.2 of the Technical Rules applies to rotational techniques used by athletes in Shot Put, Discus Throw or Hammer Throw. It should be interpreted that any “incidental” touch of the top of the rim or the ground outside in respect of the back half of the circle during the first rotation should not, of itself, be regarded as a failure. However it is clear that any technique which thereby obtains an advantage through leverage or propulsion would constitute a failure.
And imv many shot and discus throwers do gain propulsive advantage from dropping their heel onto the inside top of the rim at the back. I've done it in error and found myself driven straight through the circle and out over the stopboard a couple of times. But this throw by Crouser seems not to have infringed the rule at all. He barely grazed - if at all - the inner top of the rim at the back. Majestic effort. Love the wide smooth sweep of his right leg . .
AWESOME technique!!! 💪💪💪💯✅
That was the best!!! Explosive young ladies!!!, 💪💪🧨🧨💯
someday my little girl follow in ur footstep GOD bless
I'm sorry, maybe I'm wrong, but isn't she overrotating it? Not in the lower body positioning, but in the upper body. Shoulder overrotating and when she's on her left foot she's already in the middle of the release, so left leg is not working. No offense, and please, correct me please if I'm wrong.
Agreed the left side is opening a little early. Always something to work on!
Very informative. FYI they throw the 1.6 kg disc in Canadian High School as well for boys. Girls 1 kg as well.
Ryan, what you're doing is a rotational glide. What you're trying to do is rotate and power off the back left leg vertically so you can get all the power in the shot you're very close
Good job can you send me other video coach
As an athletic trainer and sports medical practitioner, I appreciate exercises and training techniques which keep proper mechanics and injury prevention in mind. Lou
You do such a great job simplifying the vital components of the glide. Thanks!
Can you suggest me a throwing shoe that is both good for hammer throw and discus throw

Coach, do you have a discus version of this?
Holy cow! Great throw!!
Good job man! You should be celebrated the same way these diva pro sports players are.
