I'm basically playing open handed on the drums, meaning that I will play the drums without crossing my hands. Drummers and drum teachers who had been playing and teaching cross handed their whole life most likely will find this kind of playing style ridiculous or might even call it nonsense. But I've been playing this way for few years now and had no problem with it. In fact, I used to play cross handed myself too for a long time before decided to switch to open handed playing. Another fun fact is that most drummers might not even know the reason why they're playing cross handed besides the "that's how my teacher taught me" kind of answer. If you're curious, can go check out Claus Hessler's book "Open Handed Playing" Vol 1 and Vol 2, it'll you give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Lastly I'm not saying playing cross handed is wrong or playing open handed is the correct way. My view on this subject is simply "use whatever method that works for you". I have students of both cross handed and open handed.
