Just wanted to honor the transition of Frankie Beverly with bass lines from some of his many songs. They are: -Before I Let Go -Joy And Pain -Back In Stride -Southern Girl -Lady Of Magic -Golden Time Of Day -We Are One -Happy Feelin’s I also want to recognize Robin Duhe and Larry Kimpel, the men who held it down on bass for Frankie all those years. May he Rest Well In Peace.

Why did Prince leave out the bass on When Doves Cry ? It is considered a classic and was a big hit!

    • @jelandojohnson8193

He probably couldn’t come up with a bass line he liked. Instead he put an effect on the bass drum to give it more low end. That became the substitute for the bass.

I really appreciate you solving a mystery that has puzzled me for years! I worked with Randy Crawford during her Street Life tour with the Crusaders. I was backstage with Wilton nightly and had no idea he played on so many tracks that taught me to play bass! Here's a challenge: Can you find out who the bassist is that played the opening theme for the TV show "Monk"? I LOVE the tone of his/her upright! I wonder which strings they use? Thanks!

Great video! My own style of playing was indeed influenced by Wilton Felder --- But didn't truly realize it until many years later. My dad/guitarist seriously wore out The Crusaders records in the home. So much we've learned every note to many songs. Moreover, later in my adult years I was educated about Wilton's music history outside of The Crusaders. I became obsessed enough to learn of the many songs he played on throughout his music career. The Jacksons in particular is my favorite music group of all time. I was excited as well celebrated learning along with James Jamerson, Wilton Felder too contributed to Motown's deep soulful sound. Thanks Jelando, for the boost to love and appreciate the bass guitar more!!!

Crazy fact, I grew up and attended elementary and Jr. High school with Mr. Felder's daughter in Carson Ca. I was totally unaware of how big a star her dad was back then in fact I remember hanging out on their street from time to time with some friends that lived on their block which was just a few blocks from my house and live music would be blaring inside of their garage from time to time. One year his daughter had a birthday party which I was invited to, and I sightly remember her dad and a few other musicians playing music at some point during the party but I didn't really appreciate it like I should have because I was of course just a youngster. Flash forward into my 20's I started doing music and my buddy I did music with who had many industry connections took me over to Mr. Felder's house and at this time he had moved to an affluent area in Long Beach CA. Knowing indeed who Mr. Felder was by now of course; I introduced myself to him and reminded him of his daughter's party at his house in Carson and that I was in attendance and knew his daughter since elementary school. he chuckled, smiled warmly and shook my hand and said, " Well you're one of my Carson kids huh!" It was really cool. We had actually gone over to see his home studio and get some assistance with some of the tracks we were working on, and I can vouch that he did play the bass and very well because he picked up his bass and played along with the track we had brought and instantly changed the bassline which flipped the track making it way funkier. RIP Mr. Felder.

My grandmother was a classical pianist who taught piano to many students from her garage that she had converted into a piano studio in Compton. One of her students was the one and only Lonnie Jordan one of the founding members of the group War. Funny to think my grandmother is partly responsible for the songs Lowrider and Why Can’t We Be Friends while my grandfather was the pastor of our church Lol. Great channel my man I’m subscribed
