In this video I demo the new star reduction tool in AstroPixel Processor. It is still in beta as at the time of recording this video. The video is intended to demo what capabilities can be expected when it is formally released.
Star Reduction using StarNet++ and Photoshop
Переглядів 3,8 тис.3 роки тому
The aim of this video is to demonstrate how to reduce the stars in astro images to bring out the details of the target objects. Useful Links: StarNet Download www.starnetastro.com/ Setting up StarNet to work with Nvidia GPUs (this works for standalone installs and does not need PixInsight): darkskies.space/pixinsight-starnet-cuda/ Star Reduction PlugIn for Photoshop (this came from Focal Pointe...

Thank you for the video. It is easy to mis-use this useful tool by quickly checking random settings and not being happy with results and not ever using tool. But once I followed your suggested settings the result on reducing star size was impressive and I regret I never used it before.

Hello there! Very well explained video, loved it. You now can do all of this in a much faster way in Siril, which will take care of everything and will even make the recomposition phase quite straightforward

Hello friend, excellent video and explanation, but the download links are no longer there, could you share a new link? or will it be possible to use the starnet++ version from another page?

Hey Callum! The link you provided to download starnet is not available anymore… it would be great if you can upload the starnet folder to an online storage or something so that we can download it from there :) clear skies, GC

This was GREAT! Thank you so much. I was getting a bit tired of looking at the red OSC camera images with an Ha/OIII filter! 😁

Thanks! I would not have thought about removing light pollution on each for the 3 images before combining. What is the advantage of this step? Thanks.

It's not essential you do it this way but I find it is better for balancing colours in the RGB Combine tool if you don't have gradients also causing issues in the background.

Hi. If I already have the image integrated, can I extract from it the 3 channels and then reintegrate in this technique?

In theory that should be possible. I haven’t tried it that way but I don’t see why not.

great! I'm def going to try this. I use the L-Extreme. But you mention light pollution towards the end of the video. Surely with one of these filters you won't get that, because they only pass very narrow bands at H, S and O?

I can still get gradients with my filter (it has a 10nm bandpass). It’s mainly in the oxygen as the light it lets through overlaps with other sources. Also I’m Bortle 7/8 and if the target is low it’s easier to pick up gradients, and also if the Moon is bright. I see gradients also with my mono camera and 7nm OIII filters so I don’t think these filters protect fully. It’s easy to remove in post processing and the AstroPixel Processor light pollution tool is one of the easiest and most powerful out there.

@@callumsastrophotography4859 interesting. Thanks. I'm only starting out, so it's good to learn this stuff! I am in Bortle 5 and I only image targets at high alt, so I guess I am not seeing so much of this problem.

I’d select the star so I could adjust the star and nebula independently of each other. The colour range selection can work quite well for selecting any halo you can get with the star.

Hey Callum! Finally had a chance to view your video. Well done! I actually followed along and worked this process flow (including downloading the star reduction ATN for PS) to help process my SHO of NGC 7000. It really made a difference!! Huge thanks for sharing this great info!!

Hey Callum! RCBurlygirl here. That was an excellent video. I "tried" APP quite a while back and didn't delve too deep...this vid opened my eyes to how it actually works. I need to try again now with your pointers...that LP solution is amazing!

Hey Andrea. Happy to hear it was useful, the LP tool is amazingly simple and powerful in APP. As a fellow Bortle 8er LP used to be one of the hardest parts of post processing, now it’s just a few clicks and it’s gone.
